The popular game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog, is back with its third movie. The series is all set to premiere in January 2025. Unsurprisingly, it is one of the most popular and celebrated game franchises of all time.

With its third movie in the works, the Sonic staff revealed its Japanese voice cast. This had several fans waiting with bated breath for the upcoming movie. But most importantly, their excitement has more to do with a certain voice actor.

Global arthouse movie streamer, producer and distributor Mubi has acquired all Turkish rights to Iranian director Saeed Roustaee’s timely Cannes title “Leila’s Brothers.”

A female empowerment drama set against the backdrop of a family crushed by debts linked to international economic sanctions, “Leila’s Brothers” won the International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci) prize for best film in Cannes’ main competition.

The film, which is Roustaee’s third feature, follows from his tense actioner “Just 6.5,” about a cop trying to pin down a drug lord. This hit film, which exposed Iran’s heroin addiction plague, made an international splash and this year was nominated for France’s César Award for best foreign film.

More than two million people tuned in to the MTV Movie & TV Awards and its Unscripted sister show on Sunday night to see who took home the golden popcorn.

In total, the combined awards shows drew 2.5 million viewers, a 47 increase from 2021 when 1.7 million people tuned in, according to live + same day Nielsen data. In addition to airing on MTV, the awards shows were broadcast across The CW, BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Paramount Network and VH1.

The double header grew 15 in total minutes consumed, with 607 million minutes this year. Last year, there were 527 million minutes consumed.

The awards shows also dominated social media on Sunday, with the Movie & TV Awards ranking No. 1 and the Unscripted Awards ranking No. 2 for most social entertainment programs across all of television. The shows prompted about 2.4 million social interactions.

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Monday that Ava DuVernay will receive the group’s 2022 Founders Award, to be presented during the academy’s awards gala in November.

Iatas cited DuVernay’s Emmy-winning 2019’s Netflix miniseries When They See Us as well as her work leading her company Array, along with credits that include Selma, 13th and Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, the latter of which made her the highest-grossing Black woman director ever at the U.S. box office.

This is such a feel-good, beautiful genre and it really doesn’t exist for us. “I was born into a Mormon home and raised in a devout Mormon home,” reveals Dustin Lance Black, the creator, co-writer and co-executive producer of the limited series “Under the Banner of Heaven” from FX on Hulu. “As a kid I started wondering why my mother was treated so differently in this faith that, I will be frank, I really cared for. It felt like home. It’s all I knew. Those questions about why my mother was treated differently, why the church did not intervene when violence entered our home, why they seemed to place the blame at her feet. “I was so mindful that I was coming into a pre-existing, incredibly successful franchise that Ryan [Murphy] built,” explains Sarah Burgess, the co-writer and showrunner for “Impeachment: American Crime Story” on FX. “Because Ryan directed episode one, I first met him through his ideas for my script that I had written. We were supposed to start shooting this show in March of 2020, so there was a very sudden stop. Finally everything came together in the Fall of 2020 and I met him at a production meeting. He mentioned one of my favorite movies without he and I ever speaking about it, ‘The Lies of Others,’ as a visual reference and tone reference for the show. As a neurotic, self-involved writer it meant so much to me that I felt that this person read and understood the anxious tension in the script.”

The most recent “Scream” was a gory bloodbath, but that’s nothing compared to what’s coming in the franchise’s future. Cast member Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that the next installment in the long-running horror franchise will be the most aggressive and violent yet. Ortega is reprising her role of Tara Carpenter, a survivor of the most recent Ghostface attack. Clearly the masked villain isn’t done with her yet.

“Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating,” Ortega said of the “Scream 6” script. “I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

Before the fourth and final season of “Ozark,” Amanda Marsalis had directed only two episodes of the Netflix series, the Season 2 closer (“The Gold Coast”) and fifth episode of Season 3 (“It Came From Michoacán”). So, you can imagine that learning she would helm four episodes of the drama’s 14-episode farewell installment — whose two parts debuted on January 21 and April 29, respectively — elicited quite the response from the director. “Shock, gratitude, excitement and nausea,” she enumerates while describing her initial reaction to the news in a new exclusive video interview with Gold Derby (watch above).

Having finished its second season, “Ted Lasso” tells the story of the optimistic Ted (Jason Sudeikis) continuing to coach soccer team AFC Richmond in the UK. Screen Media has acquired the North American rights out of the Cannes market to “Christmas in the Caribbean,” a romantic comedy that stars Elizabeth Hurley, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

The film comes from Msr Media International and is written and directed by Philippe Martinez. Screen Media is planning a day-and-date theatrical and on-demand release for the film beginning in November of this year.

“Christmas in the Caribbean” follows a woman named Rachel, who is left at the altar by her fiancé and decides to take her best friends on her honeymoon to the Caribbean, where she gets her groove on and finds love on the beach. Nathalie Cox co-wrote the film and also co-stars, as does Caroline Quentin.

“Christmas in the Caribbean” is also a reunion between Martinez and Hurley, who worked together on Hurley’s most recent film “Father Christmas Is Back” from last year.

Ed O’Neill is set to star opposite Jacki Weaver and Laurence Fishburne in The Sterling Affairs. The Modern Family alum will play the title role in FX’s six-episode limited series about the downfall of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling amid the team’s drive to win a championship under coach Doc Rivers.

The Sterling Affairs is written by Gina Welch based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast reported and hosted by Ramona Shelburne. The series tells the behind-the-scenes story of Rivers (Fishburne) and the Clippers’ quest to bring a championship to one of the historically worst franchises in all of sports during the impending downfall of the team’s owner, Sterling, whose notoriously racist behavior is brought to light amid the power struggle between his wife of 60-plus years, Shelly Sterling (Weaver), and his mistress, V. Stiviano.

HBO has released a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” prequel series, “House of the Dragon.” The forthcoming show is the first time fans will be able to revisit the fictional continent of Westeros since May of 2019 when its predecessor aired its series finale.

In addition to the new trailer, HBO also unveiled a brand new set of character posters, showcasing all of the show’s major characters. Based on George R.R. Martin‘s “Fire & Blood,” the series, set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen.

The series was created by Ryan J. Condal and Martin, who also serve as executive producers alongside Miguel Sapochnik, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess, and Ron Schmidt. It will be directed by Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel.

Exclusive: Rising German actor Franz Rogowski, who most recently starred in Cannes Film Festival critical hit Great Freedom, has signed with CAA.

Sebastian Meise’s drama, about the criminilization of homosexuality in post-war Germany, won the 2021 Un Certain Regard Jury Prize in Cannes. Rogowski gives a magnetic performance as Hans, a man repeatedly imprisoned under Paragraph 175 but who over the span of decades develops an unlikely bond with his cellmate.

Rogowski is also known for Christian Petzold films Transit and Undine, Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life, Gabriele Mainetti’s Venice Film Festival title Freaks Out and Sebastian Schipper’s Berlin drama Victoria.

The former Berlin Shooting Star also starred in In The Aisles for which he won Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the 2018 German Film Awards and a Lola Award.
