Jena Malone revealed in an Instagram Q&A that her character in this film is the closest to herself that she's ever had the chance to play.
Jena Malone not only stars in the film, she also serves as an executive producer alongside Mary Stuart Masterson. The two of them first met and starred in a film decades prior, The Book of Stars (1999).
The film was made under the working title "Audrey," before being titled "Porcupine" for its film festival run. Upon acquiring distribution, the film was finally retitled "Adopting Audrey."
Premiered at the 2021 Woodstock Film Festival.
The character Audrey watches a YouTube video of Goldshaw Farm, the serial of a man named Morgan and his wife Allison, a nurse practitioner, in rural Vermont. It follows their daily adventures of farming, homesteading, being part of the community, and the antics of their animals.
