Matt Lauria, who plays Josh Folsom, is not a newcomer to the CSI franchise. He played Agent Matthew Pratt in Zippered (2011), Ms. Willows Regrets (2012) and Willows in the Wind (2012).
Robert Curtis Brown, who plays Undersheriff Cade Wyatt, is not a newcomer in the CSI franchise: he played Marc Snowden in Innocent (2004), Dan Keaton in Swap Meet (2004) and Davis Ollenstein in Redemption (2010).
Lex Medlin's character is named Beau Finado. In Spanish "finado" means deceased, as in "el finado Juan Perez" - "the late John Doe".
In October 2022 CBS confirmed to Fox News Digital that TikTok influencer Josh Nalley would appear on an episode of the series which would airs November 3. Native Kentucky and avid fan of the series, Nalley was for a year posting videos where he posed as a corpse in diverse places looking for a role in the series. After more than 300 videos and 4,000,000 likes in his account, he was contacted by CBS. Showrunner Jason Tracey commented: "Rarely do we find an actor as well-prepared to play a corpse as Josh. It was a pleasure watching him work. He's a pro on this death thing". CBS president Mike Benson also commented: "We're always looking for authentic, innovative, and engaging ways to generate more interest in our shows.. For our CBS Original series CSI: Vegas, we discovered that TikTok influencer @Living_Dead_Josh is a fan of the show, so we wanted to bring his dream to life in a 'killer' way that only... we could do". Nalley played a corpse in There's the Rub (2022).
