The teacher Václav goes every evening to watch the princess skating on the frozen lake, but he doesn't admit to himself that he is in love with her. One day, the star Denicka, the fiancee of the radiant Sirius, who was knocked down by the jealous Proxima, shows up at his house. Every star on earth is fading, but pure, selfless love can give it strength. When Denicka discovers that Václav loves the princess, she decides to help their love and thus save herself. But Proxima is determined not to give up and to do anything to shine next to Sirius instead of Denicka.

What I liked:
<ul><li>Good use of music - I like it when there is a leitmotiv</li><li>Pretty decent effects</li><li>The characters of Vasek and especially Denicka were really heartwarming</li><li>Most importantly - noone would break into a song Disney-style - I really hate that trope :)</li></ul> What I disliked:
<ul><li>Pretty serious plot-hole concerning nature of the stars (when do stars shine)</li><li>Characters were a little too quick in building their relationships for my tastes</li><li>The princess character didn&#39;t work for me... - since the actress is german, they had to dub her and the result felt like an advert for a toothpaste, or washing powder... - moreover, Denicka was much more beautiful then the princess... (but that is a matter of personal taste)... anyways - even though she grew on me a little by the end, I think she was by far the weakest link in the casting</li><li>I think they should have put a little more character development on a few characters - mainly the princess/Vasek relationship - It would be nice to know, how Vasek fell in love with her (just watching somebody ice-skate seems a little shallow). Secondly I would like to know how Denicka fell in love with that idiot Sirius...</li><li>There was a great opportunity missed when Vasek (and others) were under the spell. The filmmakers kinda forgot about the school-children - I think they quite obviously loved their teacher and I&#39;m pretty sure they loved their parents... I think it could have been much more touching if the pure hearts of children would help the adults...</li></ul> Conclusion:
Overall - even though there are a few downsides in this movie it is still one of the best fairy tales I&#39;ve seen in a very long time...

The Christmas Star

Every year, there is an unofficial competition between the Slovak and the Czech filmmakers. The goal is to create a better fairytale and they are always aired on the Christmas Day on national television in each country. This year, I have to say that the Czechs did a better job. A friend of mine argued that the story was too similar to Stardust but hey, what is original nowadays? I liked the cast, the costumes, and also the ending which I won&#39;t spoil for you. Also, the princess was beutiful and the village teacher was quite a catch!
