The five elements inspect the Shen Dun Shield that conceals the Qilin. Xuan seeks to return the Qilin's son in exchange for his mother Lin and Shentu Ziye's sister, Shentu Yuanshu. Su, along with Zeqi, begin their quest for the holy beast.
Su and Shuiguan are thrown together in the aftermath of the previous battle. With Xuan and Zeqi injured, current Fire Envoy and Xuan's brother Wenren Jingxuan engages Jiao Wei in combat. Parts of Xuan and Jingxuan's childhood is revealed.
Xuan attempts to justify his mission with the Holy Beast to the Water Envoy: Shentu Ziye. Bai Yi hides an epidemic from the village. Yu Qing seeks to learn the way of the spear from Shan Zi. Su and Shuiguan attempt to track the holy beast.
Xuan learns he has been poisoned with Parasitic Gu. Chi Ji and two of the eight brothers rescue Su and Shuiguan from a demon. Xuan and Jingxuan battle a ferocious demon: Shan Zhu. The three beasts make their move to escape the barrier.
