Which Adaptations Are Worthy of King's Name?
The recent news that Universal will be adapting acclaimed author Stephen King's short story "Gramma" into a feature film directed by Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut) — coupled with the imminent arrival of Halloween, of course — got us thinking about the contributions King has made to not only the horror genre, but to science fiction, fantasy and suspense, as well. With book sales in excess of 350 million copies and his stories having inspired well over a hundred feature films, TV movies and TV series, King shares company with such literary legends as William Shakespeare and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in terms of the influence his writing has had on popular entertainment.
Unlike (most) writing, however, Cinema is a collaborative medium, requiring a confluence of talented individuals to bring a story to life on screen. Sadly, far too people in Hollywood possess the...

When I was a kid, I always had “bummer” summers. I was happy to be out of school, but every day was melting, we rarely went anywhere or did anything, and we didn’t even have cable. I could empathize with Judy Moody, and on my quest to find movies that are wholesome for my youngest relatives, I decided to give it a try. Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer left me with a “m’eh” feeling.
The classroom scene in Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer seems to rely on the fact that the audience has some familiarity with the book series, as the “pop quiz” given refers to past books. I have no familiarity with the books because I was way too old for them when they came out, but it wasn’t a difficult part to get through if you didn’t know what the characters were talking about.

If you are a fan of Children of the Corn, then you definitely remember this line as it gave light to the horror that was unfolding in the rural, midwest town of Gatlin, Nebraska. As the town's future was foretold by a child's artisitic hand, what many may not know is that the drawings were, in fact, not drawn by a "child" at all. In actuality, the creative task of creating Sarah's visions was given to illustrator Judeanne Winter Wiley. Children of The Corn Directed by Donald P. Borchers In what's being marketed as a "rebirth," Children of the Corn revisits the 80's classic that spawned 6 sequels and countless amounts of children to fear those long weekends in the country. There's a trend happening again in the Horror genre. A trend that makes a strong case that children are complete creeps. Not only are they capable of being annoying little brats but it seems that in every town, city, county or home, there's at least one twisted little monster, who in between playing with Trouble the pop-omatic bubble game dreams of popping your skull open and feasting upon the meat of your brain. Word of advice: Don't have kids and don't trust kids, they'll just try to kill you. Children of the Corn, if anything, reaffirms these wise words as well as gives us the much needed visceral satisfaction of brutal violence towards kiddies,...

It was 1984. Ronald Reagan was president, Van Halen made us "Jump", and we made our way into theaters to witness a small town in Nebraska overrun by a religious leader and his group of community children followers. That movie was, of course, Stephen King's Children of the Corn. And as this year marks the twenty-five year anniversary that this milestone in horror was released, we wondered "What was it like on the set for the Iowa-extras that rounded out the children population of Gatlin?" So after much searching through the cornfields and tracking them down, we were pleased to get in touch recently with Russ Roach who played one of the Gatlin-natives led by Isaac. So Outlanders, here it is. After months of planning we give you, the fans, "The Children of Gatlin" - 25 Years Later.

Sci Fi Channel is fleshing out the cast of its "Children of the Corn" remake, with David Anders, Kandyse McClure, Preston Bailey and Daniel Newman coming aboard the two-hour telefilm.
The movie, based on the Stephen King novel, features Anders (NBC's "Heroes") and McClure (Sci Fi's "Battlestar Galactica") as Burt and Vicky, a couple with marital problems whose attempt at a second-honeymoon driving trip ends up taking them into a seemingly deserted rural community that conceals a grim secret among its rows of tall corn. Bailey (Showtime's "Dexter") plays boy preacher Isaac, while Newman (NBC's "Surface") plays his rebellious right-hand man Malachai.
The movie, set to air next year, is shooting in and around Davenport, Iowa. Donald P. Borchers is directing from his own script.
Anders is repped by Silver Massetti & Szatmary and Liberman/Zerman Management; Bailey is with the Savage Agency and Elements Entertainment.
