Aaliyah is getting the biopic treatment from Lifetime. Zendaya Coleman, star of The Disney Channel's "Shake It Up" and a contestant on Season 16 of "Dancing with the Stars," has signed on to play the late R&B singer in a new Original Movie on the network that will film this summer and premiere in the fall, Lifetime announced today. Based on the book "Aaliyah: More Than a Woman" by Christopher Farley, "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" will chart the singer's rise from Star Search contestant at age 10 to internationally-recognized recording star (and budding actress) before her life was tragically cut short in a plane crash at the age of 22. In addition to starring, Zendaya (who paid homage to the late singer in the music video for her platinum-selling single "Replay") will also record four of Aaliyah's songs for the film, which is set to be directed by...

Disney Channel regular Zendaya Coleman ("Shake It Up!," "Dancing With the Stars") is set to play Aaliyah in the Lifetime biopic "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" about the late musician.

Aaliyah topped the charts from 1994 to her death at just 22 years old in 2001, but has yet to get a biopic. This one will be based on Christopher Farley's bestselling biography "Aaliyah: More Than a Woman".

Coleman is also a singer and her self-titled debut in 2013 sold more than one million copies. Bradley Walsh ("Turn the Beat Around") will direct from a script by Michael Elliot ("Brown Sugar").

After announcing a biopic of late singer Whitney Houston, Lifetime is adding another movie about a fallen pop star to its schedule.

The network is set to make a film about the life of Aaliyah, the R&B singer who died in 2001, featuring current Disney star Zendaya Coleman in the title role. Coleman -- who professionally goes by only her first name, just like Aaliyah -- is the star of Disney Channel series "Shake it Up!," and last year completed a stint on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." In addition to her similar choice of moniker, Coleman is also a singer, scoring a million-selling single from her 2013 self-titled debut album.

Pitch Perfect fans, we have some aca-mazing news! Not only is Rebel Wilson hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards, but it looks like she was taking notes during this year’s Oscars. And that can only mean one thing: a musical performance!

1. Rosalee is back: When actress Bree Turner gave birth to her son last fall, her character, Rosalee, took a break from the spice shop to take care of a sick aunt. "My aunt is fine now. She's healed up," Turner said.

2. The captain unmasked: Isn't it enough that Nick (David Giuntoli) found out that Renard (Sasha Roiz) was romancing his girl, Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch)? Our hero will also learn about the captain's royal background. "It's going to be a powder keg," Roiz told critics at "Grimm"'s winter TV previews on Sunday. Giuntoli added that in the "big, angry kerfuffle.

Plenty of “regular” shows are airing Halloween episodes this week, but we love that Our Shows are doing the same, especially when you consider that most regular episodes of Our Shows could be already be considered Halloween fare. Tonight, Grimm takes on Halloween with an episode that takes on a Latin American folk tale, La Llorona. We also learn that Wesen have a particular fondness for this holiday.

For the first time, NBC will be broadcasting tonight’s episode of Grimm in Spanish on Telemundo from 12-1 a.m. (Et) and English on mun2 at 1-2 a.m. (Et). It’s a good news/bad news report. Unfortunately, the bad news is that NBC has now confirmed that Mockingbird Lane, the Bryan Fuller-written-and-produced re-imagining of The Munsters, will not be produced as a series. The somewhat good news is that we don’t lose everything; the one hour pilot has been refashioned into a special, to air the Friday before Halloween.

Mr. Fuller himself tweeted this upbeat interpretation:

"Pitch Perfect" is the nation's number one a cappella comedy for at least two reasons (besides the fact that it's the only a capella comedy): It's blisteringly funny -- screenwriter Kay Cannon made sure of that -- and it's loaded with rearranged pop songs that will keep fans singing long after they leave the theater. Director Jason Moore picked most of the songs for the film, but the soundtrack production was left to Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas, a duo better known as The Underdogs. "They have a track record in terms of producing some of the world’s best pop vocalists, as well as musicals such as 'Dreamgirls,'" producer Julianne Jordan said in a statement. "We wanted that purity of unadulterated voices and harmonies to come through."

With "Pitch Perfect" out in theaters, Mason and Thomas provided HuffPost Entertainment with a track-by-track breakdown of the film's soundtrack.

NBC's The Voice, in my humble opinion, features the best unknown and relatively unknown singers on television. I don't say this just because I'm a former contestant (I'm also a former contestant on that other singing show, but that's a different blog for a different day). I say it because the talent this season is so undeniable. Even the hopefuls that are unfortunate enough not to make a team are way better than some of the finalists on other shows. And this season most of my favorites aren’t even 18. So here is my personal compilation of some of the incredible aural goodness I heard this week:

The Amazing

1. Avery Wilson

I incredulously watched this kid sing Usher's Without You possibly better than Usher ever has. This kid executed some ridiculously impressive riffs a.k.a "runs." If you are unsure as to what a "run" is...

Things we learned on The Voice tonight (that we never knew we didn’t know): Blake Shelton might not be opposed to occasionally rocking pink undergarments. A song called “The Cupid Shuffle” is all the rage at weddings and bar mitzvahs. You can be among YouTube’s Top 100 most-subscribed musicians and still need the help of a reality singing competition to hit it big. And there are only three bars in Anchorage, Ak.

Okay, so that last tidbit might not actually be true. (Blake’s sense of humor is drier than a county without alcohol, making those jokes of his often seem borderline convincing.

Oooooh, here's a rumor we love: "Page Six" is claiming that American Idol producers have asked Diddy to be a judge for the upcoming season. That would be great, although it does not sound particularly likely. Once upon a time, Vulture was a dedicated Making the Band viewer (miss you, Babs), so we know Diddy enjoys the mentoring and weeding-out processes. But it's tough to picture him enduring some nervous 17-year-old's 45-second rendition of "Turn the Beat Around" and then telling him that his personality really came through because everyone's still afraid to be "the mean judge."...

Microsoft have announced that the latest installment of the best-selling dance franchise on Kinect for Xbox 360, Dance Central 3, will be available in stores on October 16th in the U.S., Canada and Latin America and October 19th in Europe, Asia and Australia. The company have also unveiled 11 additional songs for the soundtrack, each with authentic dance routines created by professional choreographers, including:

Dance Central 3, the latest in Harmonix and Microsoft’s hit dance game series for the Kinect, was originally announced back at E3 without a firm release date. Now, Microsoft has announced the specific days that various regions will receive the game.

In the United States, Canada and Latin America, Dance Central 3 will be released on October 16, while in Europe, Asia and Australia, it will be released on October 19. New features will include team-based multiplayer capable of supporting up to eight players, as well as a new story mode involving players traveling through time to learn classic dance moves from their favorite characters.

Microsoft also revealed 11 additional songs that will be available as part of the game’s track list:

Outside of the San Diego Comic-Con we ran into the staging area for "Grimm" and snapped a quick photo of the onsite replica of Aunt Marie's trailer. Unfortunately, there were no tools of destruction on hand just yet, but we figured what the hell!

From the trailer you'll be able to take a trip through the "Grimm" forest and visit the Wesen Monuments for a description of which Wesen to look out for in the forest. Receive a "Grimm"/"Revolution" bag if you make it out of the forest.

We really enjoyed Season 1 of NBC's "Grimm" and are looking forward to the show's presentation later this week at Comic-Con. But since some time has passed, we're a little fuzzy on a few details, which is why this Season 1 recap video the network has provided is definitely appreciated.

The second season of Grimm will debut Monday, August 13th at 10/9c before moving back to its regular Friday timeslot on Friday, September 14th at 9/8c.

Inspired by Grimms' fairy tales, "Grimm" follows Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt, played by David Giuntoli, as he battles supernatural forces. Bitsie Tulloch portrays his fiancée, Juliette Silverton, with Russell Hornsby as his partner, Hank Griffin, and Silas Weir Mitchell as his confidant, Monroe. Reggie Lee and Sasha Roiz co-star. It is produced by Universal Television with Hazy Mills Prods. and Gk Prods. Sean Hayes, Todd Milliner, David Greenwalt, Jim Kouf, Naren Shankar, and Norberto Barba are executive producers.

One way to escape the massive Comic-Con crowds inside the San Diego Convention Center is by checking out the outdoor events, one of which will be this year's takeover of Gaslamp Square Park by NBC to bring the ultimate "Grimm" and "Revolution" experience to fans.

Local restaurant Tin Fish (170 Sixth Avenue) will be transformed into the world of "Grimm" as lush greenery encompasses the building and its surroundings. The American Idol Season 11 Top 6 hit the stage tonight with two numbers — one from the Queen songbook, another filed under “contestant’s choice — and I’d argue it’s the most evenly matched half-dozen vocalists in Idol history.

Yet while that means each week’s performances count more than ever in determining who stays and who goes home — the vocalist I ranked at No. 1 last week just got eliminated, for Pete’s sake! — it’s still fun to look in at who’s got momentum heading into the live show, and who’s already shopping for a lifejacket to wear...

The show featured mentoring by Gwen Stefani (who hasn't released a new single since, what, 2008?) and her No Doubt (which hasn't released a new -- not previously unreleased/compilation -- album since 2001) bandmate Tony Kanal, who is apparently a man of few words. Who'd have thunk that Stevie Nicks would be one of the most current mentors "Idol" could dig up to coach their kids? In that regard, I think "The Voice" definitely has "Idol" on the ropes.

Finally, an opportunity for Heejun, Colton, Jessica, Hollie and the gang to break out of their predictable been-there-done-that-downloaded the-iTunes-single-and-already-deleted-it ballad ghetto. Show producer Nigel Lythgoe has already let slip on Twitter that we can expect to hear "Beyonce, Mariah, Miranda, Lifehouse, Daughtry, Led Zeppelin." Zzzzzzzzzzz.

American Idol‘s Season 11 Top 10 is the perhaps the deepest, most evenly matched in the show’s history. Yet while that’s great news for the Idoloonie Nation, it’s got to be more than a little intimidating for the remaining vocalists.
