Some of the visual jokes reference Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away.
In the scene where Jemmy is carving Katy into wood, he was supposed to accidentally carve three breasts. The animators left this in as a joke but the director was furious and had them reanimate the entire scene again in a rush, resulting in dropped frames.
