Hannah Free

"Hannah Free" is a rare lesbian movie that follows a couple from childhood through old age with fine performances by all involved, especially Sharon Gless and Maureen Gallagher as the older Hannah and Rachel. Hannah is bound to roam while Rachel settles down to a traditional wifely role in their Michigan hometown. There are serious tensions along with happy reunions in their long, complex relationship.

"Hannah Free" is a multi-generational story that shows the impact of the lovers' devotion on other family members. I thought a few scenes were a bit sappy and the conclusion was a little pat but everyone's heart was in the right place so , why kvetch? Kudos to the director for casting actors who are credible as butch or masc-looking lesbians as the young and older Hannah. Many gay women fancy that style/look but they are rarely represented in movies.
