In Chinese society the mythical phoenix represents (among other things)
femininity, hence the phoenix imagery that appears throughout the film. In
addition, director Guy Orlebar's fiancée's Chinese name means "beautiful
phoenix". (The movie is dedicated "to the most beautiful phoenix in the world".). The phoenix tattoo on actress Aya Suyama is a real tattoo.
Despite possible appearances to the contrary, lead actor Benedict Garrett and director Guy Orlebar are brothers, Guy being two years Bene't's senior. The sister of rock legend 'Yip Sai Wing' who has a cameo in the movie, is also involved in the movie as Chief Wardrobe.
Due to the rainy and cloudy typhoon weather during the shoot, in post-production most outdoor scenes were color-corrected to create a sunnier ambiance.
Because of the typhoon during shooting, all helicopter shots and all
shots of the protagonist's point-of-view of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak were taking several weeks after principal shooting wrapped.
Besides the director, other crew members also have cameos in the film. The taxi driver is played by the executive director Kant Leung, the helpful passer-by is the make-up artist 'Eva Chan', the male friend in the disco is the assistant director Kim-Ching Luk, and the convenience store clerk is the production office's 'Cliff Chan'.
Guy Orlebar: The director has two cameos in the film. The first is standing in the street with his back to the camera with his (real-life) fiancée looking into a famous designer brand's store. The second is as the bespectacled barman who provides beer to the characters Paul and Pauline. Guy Orlebar's voice also features in the film as the voice-over for the Chairman Mao little red book seller.
