Much of the shadow animation was physical cutouts scanned into a computer.
The "Read A Book" song was written by Director Ryan Dewar based on the rhythm of "Be our guest" from Beauty and the Beast. It was a last minute addition written in the early hours of the morning whilst editing.
The story was conceived around the real Paisley Coats Observatory. Other than the cosmic characters, all are based on real people who were alive in Victorian Scotland. This includes the mad inventor, The Evil Lord Hamilton and Janet and her husband.
The late Andy Gray also voiced a few secret sounds and animals throughout the film. This would be the final production he would 'appear' in fully prior to his passing a few months later.
The film was conceptualized after the creators previously created "The Boy And The Seahorse". Swapping Ocean for space allowed for a different dynamic and scope.
