Bestselling author Juno Dawson has entered the Tardis for the upcoming Doctor Who.

Dawson, who pens a Doctor Who spin-off podcast, is one of a number of new faces joining Russell T Davies’ regenerated series, also including Pete McTighe, Inua Ellams and Sharma Angel-Walfall.

The new series will come out later this year.

Dawson is a best-selling author whose works include This Book is Gay and Her Majesty’s Royal Coven. Her Doctor Who: Redacted BBC podcast features former Doctor Jodie Whittaker and is about a group caught in a supernatural conspiracy as they learn that everyone who’s ever met the Doctor is disappearing and being forgotten.

Dawson is also writing Altitude Television’s adaptation of Eliza Clark’s novel Penance, while her YA trio Clean, Meat Market and Wonderland were optioned for TV several years back by Sky Studios-backed indie The Lighthouse.

When it comes to any TV show, some episodes are stronger than others. Silo season 2 certainly had a strong season, but how do the episodes hold up against each other?

This was a season set in two locations. We saw Juliette make it to Silo 17, learning that her own silo isn’t the only place on Earth, and that her people aren’t the only survivors. Meanwhile, a rebellion threatened to grow in Silo 18, as many in Mechanical believed that Juliette was alive and the air outside was safe.

There were some parts of the story that dragged, but by the end of the season, we were certainly left wanting more. Let’s rank the episodes from worst to best.

I do want to start this by saying that I don’t think there were any terrible episodes.

The entire second season of Silo has been building to this moment. Will the rebellion happen in the Silo season 2 finale.

The previous episode saw the start of a rebellion. It’s clear that some people believe the world outside is safe. The video that Juliette showed them made that clear, didn’t it? Sure, the video was only up for a few minutes, but it was long enough to believe that the air outside isn’t as toxic as the screens make it seem.

However, we know that’s not true. Will the people of Silo 18 get outside and allow the toxic air back inside? What will happen with the voice that clearly controls everything? Does Silo 18 face the end that Silo 17 had to face?

Meanwhile, we’ll get to head back to Silo 17.

Knox works out who the traitor is and Lukas learns far more than he ever thought possible in Silo season 2, episode 9. The penultimate episode certainly sets up for an intense season 2 finale.

The synopsis made it clear that we would get some secrets and truths throughout the episode. That’s what we certainly got across multiple storylines. Juliette learned more about Solo, Lukas learned more about the silo, and Knox figured out who the traitor was.

Bernard loses Billings in Silo season 2, episode 9

In a storyline that wasn’t surprising at all, Billings made it clear that he had joined forces with Mechanical. His wife can’t understand why having something like the pamphlet that shows what the world used to be like is so illegal. It doesn’t make sense to hide that past, and it leads to Billings questioning everything.

The Doctor Who franchise has had a lot of success through spinoffs over the years. From Torchwood to The Sarah Jane Adventures, the Whoniverse has explored everything from mature themes to family-friendly fun. Up next is The War Between the Land and the Sea, a high-stakes series featuring the return of classic villains: the Sea Devils!

The War Between the Land and the Sea began filming in August 2024. Created by Russell T. Davies and Pete McTighe, the five-episode series marks the return of some series favorites: Unit's Kate Lehbridge-Stuart (Jemma Redgrave), Shirley Anne Bingham (Ruth Madely) and Torchwood's General Pierce (Colin McFarlane). New cast members include: Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Russell Tovey, and Alexander Devrient. Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor is not expected to feature, but we could be surprised.

At the end of the previous episode, Bernard told Lukas that the book he was looking for was likely something Judge Meadows used to have.

Pan-Arab content creation hub Katara Studios has unveiled a four-picture slate in a special event at the Red Sea Film Festival as it ratchets up production.

The series drops on Netflix on Thursday

Charlie Covell’s comedic drama “Kaos” hits Netflix screens on Thursday, Aug. 29, and it’s giving Greek mythology buffs a new adventure to binge, reimagining the Greek gods in a contemporary setting.

The eight-episode series, directed by Georgi Banks-Davies and Runyararo Mapfumo, will all drop at the same time on the streamer.

Here’s Netflix’s official synopsis: “Zeus has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere.”

Exclusive: One Night Stand actor Matthew Sauvé will star in a limited series about his experiences with addiction.

Sauvé will star in Disrepair alongside Tommy James Murphy (Last Resort) and Samora Smallwood (Star Trek: Discovery), with Bell Canada’s streaming channel TV1 the commissioning network.

Co-creators are Sauvé, Murphy and Andrew Ravindran (Friendly Visit), who is directing. They produce the series under their newly formed banner, RavinMurph Pictures. With an overall focus on redemption stories, they filmed the post-dystopian-world suspense thriller Midnight Dreamers and are developing a comedy, among many others.

Canadian songwriter Simon Wilcox, known for the Twilight soundtrack and Nick Jonas’ song ‘Jealous’ has been tapped to create original music.

Filming on the redemption story is set to begin in the small town of Oshawa, Canada, where the series is set, and the Toronto area later this spring. A fall launch date has been set.

The Paramount Global-backed broadcast network has handed out a series order for Watson, a medical drama revolving around Dr. John Watson a year after the death of his friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes. Morris Chestnut will star as Watson and exec produce the series, which was first put in development a year ago at the network.

CBS has handed a straight-to-series order to Watson, from writer Craig Sweeny (Elementary), Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and CBS Studios, for the 2024-25 broadcast season. Morris Chestnut is set to play the title role and executive produce the medical drama inspired by the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries.

Last January, CBS ordered two drama pilots, Elsbeth starring Carrie Preston and Matlock starring Kathy Bates, as well as writers rooms for two medical drama projects, Watson and The Pact.

Netflix has another hit on its hands in the 2023 series Pact of Silence, a thrilling mystery sporting a killer cast. 

Pact of Silence came to the streamer on October 11, telling the story of a social media influencer who heads out on a hunt for her birth mother and the people who abandoned her as an infant. 

The series (technically titled Pacto De Silencio) is a Spanish telenovela, making waves on the service as the latest foreign language hit in a string of such successes seen on Netflix in recent years.

Company chiefs Dan March and Klaus Zimmerman revealed the projects in an exclusive interview ahead of Dynamic’s tenth anniversary.

Dynamic, which began life as a distributor at Mipcom in 2013, has been pushing heavily into active development and production over recent years and is the lead production company behind Apple TV+ wine drama Drops of God. Its next set of scripted projects are at early development stage and don’t yet have networks attached.

The Drops of God maker has acquired rights to make a German version of Picoult’s novel Nineteen Minutes and Germany-based Giordano’s novel The Experiment, which was previously turned into a Hollywood film starring Adrien Brody and Forrest Whittaker. “These are big IP projects for the German market,” Zimmerman told Deadline.

Succession star Brian Cox has said the actors strike will “affect British Equity far worse than it will probably affect SAG-AFTRA.”

“We are at the thin end of a really horrible wedge,” he said as he addressed the London Equity rally this afternoon in support of striking actors. He didn’t elaborate on why Equity would be harder hit by the strike, which has just entered it second week.

The veteran British star stressed that things are also harder in the U.S. due to the lack of a national health service.

“SAG is an excellent union but in the U.S. we don’t have a national health service so what is important to SAG actors is health and they need that,” he went on about the dispute. “That’s why they need their residuals.”

The underground bunker from Apple TV+’s Silo is meticulously recreated using 3D graphics, and the results are stunning. Based on the novel series by Hugh Howey, Silo concerns a dystopian future where, after some unnamed cataclysm, surviving humans live in a massive underground bunker ruled over by a mysterious code called The Pact, where relics of the past are outlawed. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Jules, a mechanical wizard who seeks the truth about the death of her friend, and finds herself unraveling a mystery that reveals the true terrifying nature of the silo.

Death metal vets Incantation have announced their 13th studio album, Unholy Deification, arriving August 25th via Relapse. The band also offered up the video for lead single “Concordat (The Pact) I.”

Across their storied career, Incantation have combined death metal with the occult imagery and devilish fervor typically associated black metal. The Pennsylvania-based band is once again dabbling in the darkness on “Concordat (The Pact) I,” conjuring a murky psychedelia through dissonant riffs, obscured growls, and a cave-like sonic atmosphere. The sepia-toned video, rife with ancient scrolls and runes, drives home the band’s abyssal meditations.

“I’m not interested in playing it safe,” said Incantation guitarist-singer John McEntee in the album press release. “I think other people feel that there are limits to what we do. However, I don’t see it that way. If it feels right, then it’s Incantation. The songs we write are an honest expression of ourselves.

Luke Evans and Callum Scott Howells are among the stars of upcoming BBC drama The Way from Michael Sheen, James Graham and Adam Curtis.

Sheen, who is also directing, will star in The Way with Steffan Rhodri and Mali Harries. The drama, announced in February, comes from Welsh indie Red Seam.

Culminating in a breathtaking, near-real-time attempted repair on a towering power generator, the third episode of Apple TV+’s Silo is both the longest — 62 minutes — and most exciting in the show’s 10-episode first season.

It isn’t necessarily the best Silo episode, but it’s guaranteed to get your pulse racing. That’s a good thing.

What isn’t so good is that the race to fix the generator erases all momentum for the show’s main murder mystery; it introduces and confirms skills for the series’ main protagonist that are barely paid off in subsequent episodes; and the key figure in the sequence is a character who, unless I’m forgetting something, is never so much as mentioned again.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a show doing a standalone episode this early in its run — “Long, Long Time” from The Last of Us is a tremendous recent...

Silo is best described as a dystopian political thriller. It tells the story of what could happen after humanity has been stuck living underground for hundreds of years. They fear what is out there, beyond the silo, but don't know how to begin asking questions. When tragedy starts to occur, however, it is up to Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) to find the truth.

The people of the silo live by the rules of The Pact, and Paul Billings (Chinaza Uche) is probably the most devout of them all. When Juliette comes into his life, however, he starts to question everything he knows. The two make quite the pair as Sheriff and Deputy in Silo, which premieres May 5 on Apple TV+.

Exclusive: Canada’s Thunderbird Entertainment has optioned New York Times bestseller Mad Honey.

The Vancouver-based producer is planning to turn Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan’s novel into a premium TV series.

The novel focuses on themes of young love, teen angst and parental grief, interwoven with murder and high-intensity courtroom drama. The story follows a mother, who relocates to her sleepy New Hampshire hometown to take over the family beekeeping business, whose son is suspected of killing his girlfriend.

“Jodi and Jennifer wrote such an incredibly moving story,” said Matthew Berkowitz, Thunderbird Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer. “We believe that narratives on this level can truly make a significant impact on the empathy we have for others and how people view their own actions as we co-exist in the world.”

Prime Video’s epic fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has signed on Ciarán Hinds, Rory Kinnear, and Tanya Moodie for season two. The just-announced new cast members will be featured in recurring roles in the upcoming season. Prime Video did not provide any details on who Hinds, Kinnear, or Moodie are playing.

Season two is currently shooting in the UK.

Starz is keeping a show alive that was scrapped post-development.

The premium cabler announced today it has picked up the 10-episode drama Three Women, based on the #1 New York Times bestselling book of the same name from acclaimed author and the show's creator Lisa Taddeo.

The show completed production at Showtime, but the cabler scrapped it last month after a change in strategy.

Three Women stars Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, Gabrielle Creevy, Blair Underwood, and John Patrick Amedori.

Laura Eason is the showrunner.
