The creator of Maniac Cop, Larry Cohen, on why the new remake is now very unlikely to happen...
For many years, there’s been talk – and attempts – to bring a remake of Maniac Cop to the big screen. Nicolas Winding Refn, best known for Drive, has been working on the film, and back in March, it looked like the project was pressing ahead. With a script in place by Ed Brubaker, the movie got given the green light.
But it looks like it’s back to square one.
Larry Cohen, the man behind the original Maniac Cop, has given an update to Bmd, and it’s not a positive one.
“As far as I know, that’s not happening anymore, and if it is, they might be trying to keep it a secret, as they’d owe me $250,000”, he said. “Ed Brubaker wrote the script, and I’ve read the script,...

It’s going on two years since Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon) first announced plans to produce a modern-day remake of Maniac Cop, at which time John Hyams and Ed Brubaker (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) were brought on board to hash out a script.
But if Larry Cohen is to be believed, those plans have since unraveled, after the screenwriter told Birth.Movies.Death that the mooted project is no longer moving forward. Having pitched the screenplay for the original Maniac Cop back in ’88, one would assume Cohen has it on good authority that Refn’s remake has been scrapped. Not only that, but during his interview with Bmd, the scribe revealed his strong feelings toward the proposed redo.

Maniac Cop, a modern adaptation of William Lustig’s 1988 cult classic that Nicolas Winding Refn and his partner Lene Børglum are producing, was set to shoot this summer in Los Angeles. Now, according to Bmd, the project could be dead. The news came via Larry Cohen, who wrote the 1988 original: “As far as I know, that’s not happening […]...

Cavitycolors pays tribute to Maniac Cop 2 with a new shirts and pins collection, and in today's Horror Highlights, we also have details on Aliens Ate My Homework, What the Waters Left Behind, and The Tormenting.
Maniac Cop 2 Shirts and Pins Collection: From Cavitycolors: "Hey Fiends!
This Thursday, we're bringing you our officially licensed Maniac Cop 2 collection!
Written by Larry Cohen (The Stuff) and directed by William Lustig (Maniac), Part 2 of the series is my personal favorite entry in the series. A 90's cult classic in the truest sense, it's just so satisfying to see a much more monstrous Matt Cordell wreak havoc on the streets of New York City. We couldn't be more excited to work with top notch artists on this release, including Devon Whitehead, Jason Edmiston, Shane Murphy, and Matt Skiff. All art is officially licensed, and approved by William Lustig himself for what might...

Damien Colletti is a young talent that has already been involved in movies, television and even professional wrestling and he's really just beginning. Check out what we talked about below, everything from how he got into the business to the cool projects he's working on now to his love of horror movies and Taco Bell.
Brian S- Hey Damien, first off how did you get into acting?
Damien- Acting was something I’ve always wanted to do and thought about. I remember watching Arnold Schwarzenegger’s films (Conan the Barbarian, Terminator, etc.) when I was younger and loving them. I thought to myself to be like Arnold would be the life and I’d love to do what he’s doing one day! Lol. My mother, Cathy Lyons Colletti, was a successful theater actress (also a produced playwright, published writer, and director) so I was around acting at a very...
