Just as multiple streaming platforms have begun offering subscription bundle plans and the Streaming Wars seem to finally be over — a wildly unexpected force has entered late in the game with hopes of shaking things up, funded not by Big Tech, but by Big Fundamentalist Pickle-Brined Fried Chicken. I swear on my life this is not a headline from The Onion come to life, but as first reported by Deadline, Chick-fil-a is launching its own streaming service. I'm already offering my deepest condolences to the first creative who earns the inevitable call from their reps saying, "Chick-fil-A passed" when their project is rejected.

I, and I cannot stress this enough, absolutely despise this announcement, but I will hate it a little bit less if they're at least willing to commit to the bit and call it "Flick-fil-a." Chick-fil-A's...

NewFest, New York City’s premier LGBTQ film festival, swings into its 33rd edition on Friday, delivering over 130 features, shorts, and documentaries across theaters in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and for those viewers outside of NYC, at home virtually.

The festival this year runs October 15 through 26, kicking off on Friday with the east coast premiere of the documentary “Mayor Pete,” about Secretary of Transportation and former South Bend, Indiana, mayor Pete Buttigieg. The film brings viewers inside his campaign to be the youngest U.S. President, and looking at his marriage to his husband Chasten, and their ambitious team — from the earliest days of the campaign to his unlikely victory in Iowa and beyond. This film reveals what goes on inside a campaign for the highest office in the land — and the myriad ways it changes the lives of those at its center. Buttigieg serves as the first openly LGBTQ Cabinet member in U.

Outfest Los Angeles features two films with "RuPaul's Drag Race" winners BeBe Zahara Benet and Bianca del Rio in its lineup for its 39th Film Festival.

Season 6 winner Bianca del Rio will join the main cast members of "Everybody’s Talking About Jamie," Max Harwood and Lauren Patel, in the festival's opening event. Del Rio plays art teacher Miss Haywood in the feature adaptation of the musical.

Season 1 winner BeBe Zahara Benet will perform live before the premiere of "Being Bebe," which follows the Cameroonian-American immigrant's struggle to embrace being an LGBTQ performer against discriminatory cultural forces.

Named after the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization Outfest, the 10-day festival will celebrate LGBTQ+ stories and voices in film and television and will return to in-person screenings.

Outfest will also host the 5th Annual Trans and NonBinary Summit on August 21 with a panel featuring established and emerging trans and nonbinary creators, Zackary Drucker and Our Lady J.

Exclusive: NewFest has taken the wraps off NewFest Pride, its new virtual summer film series that will kick off June 4-7. The event from the New York-based LGBTQ+ film and media organization aims to kick off Pride month showcasing six feature films along with a short-film program co-presented with Vimeo and LGBTQ-focused panels and special events.

Those events include a virtual live-read of Legally Blonde featuring an all queer and trans cast, NewFest said Thursday. The fundraiser comes as the film starring Reese Witherspoon celebrates its 20th anniversary, on the heels of the success of the all-trans live-read of Brokeback Mountain in October during NewFest’s New York LGBTQ Film Festival. Like before the live read will will be produced in collaboration with #MakeItGay live reads, founded by Gaby Dunn during quarantine to reimagine typically white, straight, cis and male films into ones with diverse casts.

At Swiss doc fest Visions du Réel with Cannes Acid premiere “Coalesce,” Torino-based The Open Reel has closed a raft of deals on its current sales titles, led by Chilean Alberto Fuguet’s “Everything at Once: Paco and Manolo’s Gaze.”

“Being specific titles, and referring to a specific audience, even if in constant expansion, LGBT titles – not only feature films but also documentaries and short films – respond to the constant demand of a slice of the market that is always very receptive to fruition,” said The Open Reel founder Cosimo Santoro. “Consequently, they represent a good guarantee of promotion and sales on a large scale, even in a complicated time like this,” he added.

‘Everything at Once: Paco and Manolo’s Gaze’

In its first deals, “Everything at Once,” a film essay, has been acquired by Paris-based Optimale Distribution for France and French-speaking territories, “Skinny Sister” distributor Matchbox Films for the U.

Former “Bachelor” contestant Colton Underwood came out on Wednesday, and some fans are hoping that ABC will have a same-sex “Bachelor” season in the near future (ABC has not announced plans for any such show). In reality, there’s already been a gay “Bachelor”-type show — “Finding Prince Charming.”

“Finding Prince Charming” aired on Logo, Viacom’s LGBTQ-themed cable channel (and original home of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”) back in 2016 and borrowed heavily from “The Bachelor.”

International sales agency The Open Reel has scored a number of sales at the Berlin European Film Market (EFM).

Daniel Sánchez López’s BFI Flare Lgbtiq+ Film Festival selection “Boy Meets Boy,” a German production, has sold to Peccadillo Pictures for the U.K. and Ireland and to Optimale to France and Francophone territories. The film, about a brief encounter in Berlin between two young men, previously sold to Salzgber for Germany and German-speaking territories, Gagaoolala for South and Southeast Asia and to Ariztical for North America.

Jessé Miceli’s Cambodia/France production “Coalesce” has been sold to Gagaoolala for South and Southeast Asia and to Ariztical for North America. The Phnom Penh-set film follows three disparate lives in the city.

Ariztical has also picked up David Moragas’ Spanish production “A Stormy Night” for North America. The film follows two boys who have to weather 12 hours of a New York storm together.
