Cosmo Jarvis, star of FX’s smash hit period series “Shōgun,” has landed a role in Guy Ritchie’s next film, “Wife & Dog.”
The Brit joins a heady lineup of names already confirmed for the feature, first announced by Variety last year and set to see Ritchie return to the colourful, backstabbing world of the British upper classes (doubling down on a subject he recently explored in “The Gentleman” film and TV series). Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Anthony Hopkins have been announced as leading the feature and, while plot details remain under wraps, Jarvis is understood to be to playing Hopkins’ son and Pike’s sister.
The “Wife & Dog” screenplay is written by Ritchie, who also produces alongside long-time producing partner, Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Executive producers include Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler for Black Bear.

The highly anticipated FX limited series Shogun on a ton of Golden Globes on Sunday night.
But for some fans, the joy of discovering an epic new series was undermined by reports about actor Cosmo Jarvis’ illness.
Questions about Jarvis’ health have been circulating on social media, but as is so often the case on Twitter/X and elsewhere, the truth of the situation has been obscured by a jumble of misinformation.

The fantasy streaming wars have found romantasy rivals in Fourth Wing and Quicksilver. Both Netflix and Amazon vying for dominance in the exploding romantasy subgenre.
Netflix is adapting Quicksilver, while Amazon has acquired the rights to Fourth Wing. Netflix is boarding a new fantasy adaptation. 2024 has been a big year for the streaming platform. They have been staying afloat while other companies in Hollywood struggle in the wake of the 2023 strikes, during which writers and actors fought for fair pay from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, who took more than 100 days each to resolve the disputes from the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild. The streamer has made several moves this year, including password crackdowns, live sports, advertisements at certain tiers, and a change in their content strategy.
This change has included devoting their resources to prioritizing original, high-quality projects as opposed to acquiring the licenses to stream pre-existing movie and television shows. This includes several prominent projects within the fantasy genre, chasing success of titles like Stranger Things and Damsel, both of which number among the most-watched titles of all time on the platform.

Kevin Kreider might be a multi-hyphenate, but he considers his role in Hello, Love, Again, now the Philippines’ highest-grossing film in history, as his first proper acting gig.
As of December 2, the film has grossed a total of 1.4B Philippine pesos ($23.9M) at the global box office.
After his breakout appearance in Netflix reality series Bling Empire, as well as a role in feature film Asian Persuasion, which he also executive produced, Kreider has been busy running his own production outfit, Asian Lead Love Stories (Alls) Production, while also launching a 50-episode webtoon and helping others develop reality shows. Kreider has also been cast in an upcoming American sci-fi thriller feature, as well as a Filipino medical drama.

When it comes to page-to-screen adaptations, Netflix isn't a stranger to bringing our favorite stories to life. Some of the streamer's most popular content comes from the pages of best-selling books, like the recent hits The Perfect Couple, Damsel, Uglies, and The Lincoln Lawyer. Of course, there are countless other Netflix movies and shows based on books and plenty more to come.
Whether it's popular romance novels from BookTok darling Emily Henry or various thriller hits soon to become your next limited series obsession, your book shelves and Netflix watch list will continue to runneth over. Most recently, Netflix put two completely different but equally exciting adaptations of Pride & Prejudice into development, and one has a special YA twist.

One of the all-time best Jane Austen books may be getting a new version on Netflix! Over 200 years after her death, the author is as beloved as ever. Generations have grown up on her novels, which were ahead of their time, exploring issues of feminism, class, and some wonderful romances. In just six books, Austen made herself a literary icon who’s influenced countless writers since.
Not surprisingly, adaptations of Austen’s works have been plentiful. There have even been adaptations of her two posthumous novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion and her unfinished book Sanditon.
Trying to narrow down the best Austen works is difficult as many will cite Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, with Thompson also writing the script, earning her an Oscar. Yet, to many, the topper of Austen’s works is Pride and Prejudice.

Netflix is developing a series version of Jane Austens most famous novel, Pride and Prejudice. Published in 1813, the popular novel follows the sharp-witted yet headstrong Elizabeth Bennet, who comes to realize that love can overcome both pride and prejudice through her evolving relationship with the wealthy but initially aloof Mr. Darcy. Pride and Prejudice has been adapted to the screen several times, most famously in the 1995 BBC miniseries starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth and the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
Now, Jane Austens most famous novel is getting another adaptation. According to Variety, Netflix is developing a series version of Pride and Prejudice with Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton penning the scripts. The project hasn't officially been greenlit by the streaming platform yet, and there are no cast members currently attached.

Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy could be coming to Netflix.
Deadline understands that a TV adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is in the works. We are told that Everything I Know About Love creator Dolly Alderton has written the scripts and casting is still yet to be ironed out. The project from Gentleman Jack producer Lookout Point is in development and may not make it to screen.
If it does get greenlit, Pride and Prejudice will be Netflix’s first Austen adaptation since 2022’s Persuasion, which starred Dakota Johnson.
Many iconic Pride and Prejudice adaptations have been made down the years, including a movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in 2005 and the BBC’s version 10 years prior starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. The Knightley movie was recently added to Netflix’s library.

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Manhunt", Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett) hitches a ride on the Enterprise-d, partly to visit her daughter Deanna (Marina Sirtis), but mostly to flirt with Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). It seems that Lwaxana is going through the Betazoid equivalent of menopause, and her libido is skyrocketing. As such, she seems determined to arrive at her destination with a husband in tow, and she doesn't really care who it might be.
Lwaxana Troi is a fun character for "Star Trek," as she is outspoken, charismatic, and tends to flout the buttoned-up formality that Starfleet officers abide by. Barrett played the role on six episodes of "Next Generation," and returned for three episodes of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Her flippant demeanor allowed her to solve mysteries without thinking about it, and her stories tended to be personally dramatic rather than highfalutin sci-fi.

Hallmark Channel is capping off a month of original films themed around Jane Austen’s works with the premiere of a new feature-length adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. The classic story about whether young women should choose husbands based on romantic notions of love or practicality has been adapted for both television and film several times before. Many fans may remember either the 1995 film adaptation directed by Ang Lee or the 2008 BBC and PBS television miniseries starring Dominic Cooper and Charity Wakefield.
This Sense and Sensibility stands out from the other recent period adaptations of Austen’s works, however, as it’s produced by Hallmark’s Mahogany brand, which is devoted to producing original films and series with Black screenwriters, actors, directors, and other creatives. Unlike Netflix’s 2022 Persuasion adaptation, which used the controversial strategy of “color-blind casting,” Hallmark’s Sense and Sensibility deliberately sought out Black actors for principal and supporting roles.

Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant are set to lead a new period drama directed by Peter Glanz.
Titled “Savage House,” the eighteenth century black comedy also stars Bel Powley (“A Small Light”) and Jack Farthing (“The Lost Daughter”).
Kila Lord Cassidy (“The Wonder”), Richard McCabe (“Napoleon”), Vicki Pepperdine (“Poor Things”) and Pip Torrens (“The Iron Lady”) round out the cast. The film recently wrapped in the U.K.
“Set against the backdrop of eighteenth century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) and their blind pursuit of a better life,” reads the logline. “It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power.”

During the promotional run for Madame Web, which is scheduled to sling its web into theatres from tomorrow, Dakota Johnson has mostly seemed unenthused about Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu)’s fourth title.
Instead of hyping up the titular character’s origin story and shedding light on what fans can expect from Sony’s standalone universe, Johnson has used her tour to criticize Hollywood’s reluctance to embrace creativity, taken aim at the “nepo baby” controversy, and told fans how “psychotic” the experience of working with a blue screen was.

Her recent response when asked about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies has also not gone down well with fans of the Cbm genre. Regardless, Johnson’s followers continue to eat, with their eyes closed, whatever she has been serving.

Trailers are designed to stir up excitement, the amuse-bouche that whets your appetite for the three-course meal. Occasionally, the oldest marketing trick in the book backfires. When Sony dropped a sneak peek at Madame Web, the newest addition to the company’s roster of Spider-Man–related films and another of their corporate crossovers with the good folks at Marvel Studios, the reaction was … not exactly what they hoped for. The same fans they were hoping to get riled up about a batch of fresh Spidey-adjacent characters began to mock the clip,...

Dakota Johnson is calling out Hollywood for being “afraid” to greenlight and distribute indie films.
The “Madame Web” actress and TeaTime producer told L’Officiel that she finds it “really fucking bleak” that executives, especially at streaming services, aren’t willing to to take a risk on smaller budget original movies.
“We made a movie called ‘Daddio’ that was sold at Telluride to Sony Classics, which was amazing, but it took a lot of fighting to get that made,” Johnson said. “People are just so afraid, and I’m like, why? What’s going to happen if you do something brave? It just feels like nobody knows what to do and everyone’s afraid. That’s what it feels like. Everyone who makes decisions is afraid. They want to do the safe thing, and the safe thing is really boring.”
Johnson continued, “I am discovering that it’s really fucking bleak in this industry.

British cinematographer and filmmaker Molly Manning Walker had quite the year in 2023. She was the cinematographer for Charlotte Regan’s Scrapper, a British drama focusing on a broken relationship between a Father and Daughter. Most notably, she released her feature directorial debut ‘How to Have Sex’. This follows three teenage gal pals going on a rite-of-passage girl’s holiday to Malia, where they plan to drink, club and hook up to their heart’s content. What should be the best summer of their lives turns sour, when lead Tara experiences a shocking encounter with a guy they’ve buddied up with on their trip. Exploring the topic of consent in a heart-breaking yet honest way, How to Have Sex is an important slice of realism that showcases excellent direction, tremendous performances and tells a story worth telling.

Guy Pearce has recently wrapped production on “Inside,” an Australian crime thriller and coming of age drama film. The picture is the debut feature of Charles Williams, whose short film “All These Creatures” won the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
The story sees after a young man transferred from juvenile to adult prison, where he is taken under the wing of both Australia’s most despised criminal, and a soon-to-be-a-paroled inmate. A paternal triangle grows between them, suggesting that even the worst of men may have a little bit of good inside them — that will be their eventual undoing.
The cast is headed by Pearce, Cosmo Jarvis and newcomer Vincent Miller. Supporting actors include Toby Wallace, Tara Morice, Chloé Hayden (“Heartbreak High”) and Michael Logo (“Colin From Accounts”).

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that once a fresh new television show becomes a hit, Hollywood will try and replicate it over and over, with largely diminishing returns. So it's unsurprising that after Bridgerton became a global phenomenon, we got a Queen Charlotte spin-off, The Gilded Age, and new adaptations of Dangerous Liaisons, Persuasion, and Mr. Malcolm’s List. All feature diverse casts in period stories, decked out in lavish costumes and peering lustfully at one another.

As you progress through the side quests in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3, you'll likely encounter a quest called "Find the Missing Letters". This is a simple quest found in Rivington. The owner of Sword Coast Couriers has been using pigeons to send the mail, but the pigeons are getting attacked, and their letters have been lost.
The problem comes with actually finding where in Rivington the letters have ended up. If you don't have Speak with Animals, this can prove a frustrating task. At least the rest of the quest isn't so hard; so long as you have Gale on your side, you'll be able to get the letters without a single check.

This Danish period film is not as tantalizing as one would imagine but rather a tale as old as time. You can’t really call Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction a rom-com because, other than the romantic setting, there isn’t really any romance in this film. Additionally, the comedy falls flat and doesn’t pack a punch like it’s expected to. The film follows a not-so-young artist named Cazotte. On one of his portrait assignments, the Duchess of Babenhausen requests that he teach her young son the art of seduction because there’s a crisis and he must be married off immediately (tell us something new). For his services, the self-attested love doctor wants, in return, a connection with a beautiful woman named Ehrengard. This is when things start to get messy, and the result is a tale of mishaps and scandal.

Exclusive: Sad update on the plan to bring the story about the 2021 California School for the Deaf football team to the small screen; the limited series is not moving forward.
After several months in production, the project from ABC Signature and Disney Branded Television was shuttered earlier this year as part of the parent company’s massive wave of cuts.
The studio had partnered with the school and the California Department of Education to tell the story of the team’s historical undefeated season and how it earned a spot in the California State Championship game for the first time in school history. Historically a team that had never experienced anything close to a winning season, they went undefeated all the way to the state title game in their magical season.
The untitled project for Disney+ was set to star Oscar winner Troy Kotsur (Coda) as the team’s coach.
