The movie is based on the essay-stories Nishimura Jun (the cook) wrote based on his experience of while he was working at the Fuji Dome base at the south pole.
Nishimura carries his daughters tooth on a necklace. Moto-san recommends throwing it over a house for good luck. This is the traditional belief in Japan of what you should do with a child's tooth.
The movie is set in 1997. The research station, Dome Fuji, was established in 1995.
The "live-chat" between the Fuji dome staff and the children took place at the Polar Science Museum in west Tokyo.
