Exclusive: Newcomer Rueby Wood (Broadway’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Aria Brooks (Harriet) and Joshua Bassett (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) have signed on to star alongside Lisa Kudrow in Disney+’s musical comedy adaptation of Tim Federle’s award-winning novel, Better Nate Than Ever.

The family film written and directed by Federle centers on 13 year-old Pittsburgher Nate Foster (Wood), who, together with fellow theater kid Libby (Brooks), sneaks off to a major musical audition in New York City after not being cast in their school musical. Wood landed its title role following a nationwide search.

Bassett will play Nate’s older brother, Anthony, with Kudrow as his long-lost aunt Heidi.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was a huge hit when it premiered on Disney+ in November 2019, so it goes without saying that we're anxiously awaiting the second season. While production was initially delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the cast is back on set in Salt Lake City filming new episodes. Although an official release date for season two hasn't been announced yet, fans will get a special glimpse of the first musical number, "Something in the Air," during the holiday special, which hit the streaming service on Dec. 11.

Disney+ are pouring on the sugary honey for this festive season with a new trailer for ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special’.

The trailer includes a preview of “The Perfect Gift,” a new song from the highly anticipated second season of the series, written and performed by Joshua Bassett (“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”).

In addition to “The Perfect Gift,” the soundtrack and special will provide fans a sneak peek of “Something In The Air,” the first major musical number from the upcoming second season of the series, which has been “Certified Fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes.

“High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special” will also feature Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St. Cyr and Kate Reinders sharing their childhood holiday memories, best – and most embarrassing! – gifts, favourite traditions and family photos.

Cybill Shepherd has joined the cast of Showtime’s comedy pilot for “I Love This For You,” which will star Vanessa Bayer, who also co-created the show, inspired by her own life. The show will follows a woman who beats childhood leukemia and pursues her dream of hosting a home shopping channel. Shepherd’s character, Patricia Kunken, is the founder of a shopping network. She is known for her roles in shows like “Moonlighting” and the Golden Globe-winning “Cybill.” Jeremy Beiler co-created the show alongside Bayer. They executive produce alongside Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Jordana Mollick, showrunner Jessi Klein and director Michael Showalter.

Over the weekend, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star posted a photo to Instagram of her husband holding one of their children's hands, with the sweet caption: "Sharing this anniversary moment while watching our kiddos play soccer. We’re not talking about a hairdryer for Roman Reigns, or a beard trimmer for Bray Wyatt. These superstars need career-boosting gifts, ones which could very well transform their fortunes in 2016.

From title reigns to gimmick changes, WWE’s hard-working superstars deserve the right booking and creative decisions in order to maximise their undeniable potential and lead them on the road to superstardom.
