46 reviews
I saw the 9.1 stars (38 people) read all the rave reviews and then found out that most of the 10 stars were one review writers on IMDb. The reviews even sounded alike which was my first clue and why I looked. The other reviews seemed honest, so I think I jinxed myself and expected WAY too much of this movie.
First off - it has a lot gratuitous sex in it. I'm not a prude, but tossing in sex scenes on a formulaic schedule, ruins the flow of the thing.
The story is "second verse same as the first". You have seen this before, BUT it was well done by some really good actors.
I added a star for the supporting cast: Joseph Marcell and Nina Wadia. They were, and always are, awesome, no matter what parts they are playing.
Otherwise, 5 stars on a good day. I wish I had read a good book instead.

I'm extremely keen on watching all kinds of movies in all genres, and at last count I've watched around 30,000 movies. The truth is that this one had a good premise, but surely the screenwriter "forgot" to give some pages to the director and he didn't notice. Or else the editor received an unfair salary and "murdered" the film in the Final Cut ( sorry for the infamous joke ) The "Hitchcockian" touches excited me at first, until I realized it was a cheap copycat that didn't see all of the Master's work from Suspense. The plot has dozens of loose ends, the main actress confuses "indifference" (which she showed in the film) with "I'm confused about what's going on". Don't waste time watching, run away!

This movie says the example of why we should not transform each and every single successful book into a movie. I can see how this story would fly in a book, as it resembles to a fairy tale. It's transformation into a movie made it unrealistic. It is really a very slow burn with fewer characters and easily predictable outcomes. We are in 2022, and defining good and bad character since second one is not definitely a good idea. Even the good one, she is jumping into someone else's bed the moment she gets the opportunity to, setting the example of someone who could easily cheat and mislead then expect people to be okay with it. Besides that, the movie is flawed with some unrealistic scenes but still, it is watchable if you truly want to kill some time.
British thriller film produced in 2022. The film is about a woman who married an unstable but very rich man and tries to get rid of him. The man really wrote the book of repugnance. It's like a made-for-TV movie. Acting is very unprofessional. The script is very familiar. The worst part is that the mind of the viewer is being mocked. I'm sure the IMDB rating will drop as you watch. The best thing in the movie is the leading actress. I do not recommend the movie. For better ones, my suggestion would be "Unfaithful" and "Before I Go To Sleep".
There are no nudity or sexually explicit scenes in the movie.

The film is a 15 there are no "gratuitous sex scenes" in fact the sex in this film is some of the least "risqué" i've seen in a long time. You see more in "Emily in paris" or "Sex education" on netflix.
The film itself is a really good British story, acted very well by the actors and delivered in a good pacing. There where a few moments where as a viewer you would yell in your head! "call the police" but these moments i guess are to help drive along the plot.
There is a trigger warning i must offer that if you are affected by domestic violence there are scenes in this that are very well done and realistic and although kept in as good a taste as possible, i can certainly see how someone may be triggered by it.
Over all it was well written, well acted, well edited, FANSTASTIC score and music on all scenes. The Pacing lost itself but the ending was strong with an almost "post credits" type ending.
I am recommending to friends to watch to discuss as its been a while in a sea of blockbusters to find a little gem to talk around the table with a glass of wine!

Loved the book and so was anxious to see how the film had been adapted....and thankfully really liked it, good acting in the main from Samantha Bond, Emily Berrington and Ben Lloyd Hughes ( only just realised knew him from 'Me Before You' ) very atmospheric, the houses used are amazing, truly amazing, my eyes were all over looking at the things especially in the Manor House, location wise was very watchable and recognised a lot of places, there were unexpected twists in it ( for my other half who hadn't read the book! ) all in all a really good psychological thriller which am pleased stayed very close to the original book.
Samantha Lee Howe wrote the book the movie is based from which has the same name along with the screenplay apparently even though she is not credited for it.
The writer specialty is Thrillers and claims it is based from a true story which I am still trying to find out what actual story. Either way it hit a nerve especially with women.
It did have some twists that I did not expect along the way and who doesn't like seeing the wealthy having to bicker?
Worth the read or the watch especially if you enjoyed the book.

The acting is fine but the plot, the script and the twists are all rather disappointing. It tried too hard and had too many plot holes. Unfortunately it just made me cringe by the end. The twists were not very surprising apart from some in their silliness. I would like to be more charitable but I can't find any redeeming qualities to complete this review with applause.
Having said that, the settings were good with some grandiose locations.
Maybe if the plot had been tweaked a little to make everything more credible (I won't give examples to avoid giving away any aspects of the story) then I might have been able to give it a better score.

I absolutely loved the book, was excited to watch the film and it did not disappoint.
Edge of seat scenes, great use of colours on every scene , loved the locations.
Cast : Ben Lloyd Hughes played Tom to perfection, charismatic boss had everyone eating out of his hand , husband- loving one minute but can turn on a sixpence.
Emily Berrington is a great actress , she showed us Charlotte as a conflicted wife, we all understood her vulnerability , loyalty and strength.
Samantha Bond was fantastic as the matriarch , we saw her strength and her worries.
All the cast were amazing , lots of twists and turns . Definitely one to watch.

I've seen Before I Go To Sleep so many times and I just realized that the plot is quite familiar despite having a slightly different setting, backgrounds and motives (the aforementioned film is based on the novel as well). An unhappy married couple, a woman wants to get away with it and uninspiring way to end her misery. That's basically Before I Go To Sleep with wealthy backgrounds, mother in-law intervention and witnessing a crime scene. No big names who starred in this film bar the mother in-law who was Miss Moneypenny in Brosnan-era Bond film. Finding out that the leads are actually married in real life while being abusive and manipulative in this film feels so surreal.

No pun intended - the movie will not win any originality price ... it is predictable is what I am saying in case that was not clear. And it ties up things way too neatly too - one might get sick by the end of it. It's not all honkey dory (or however you would write that, but you catch my drift) ... but it is an interesting thriller and the actors do try their best (if that is enough for you).
The villain here is quite over the top - but reality has shown us that bad guys can be really simple minded ... and really not care what we think of them .. and act accordingly. So suspend your disbelief and just go with it ... or don't watch this decent low budget effort at all I reckon.

Gr8t Actors , superb acting , great storyline with many surprising twists, when you think you have worked it out and it throws your mind into overload into another direction , superb camera visuals , lovely the scenery set up !
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this psychological Thriller , certainly made your mind work into over load , with clever twists to the story line as it unfolds !
A real true British Thriller that's grips you to the very end with very clever visual camera shots .

So I have now finished watching "The Stranger in Our Bed". Very impressive might I say.
Charlotte was exactly how I imagined her reading the book. Tom, wasn't how I imagined, but he made it work to be honest. Samantha Bond, love her as an actress, played the role of Isadora really well. Ewan aka Daniel was a treat for the eyes lol, definitely imagined him right. Stefan and Mrs Tanner, definitely the right actor and actress to play those roles. Really nice to see Terri Dwyer play the role of Becky, really suited the role.
Well done to Giles Anderson for directing the film, brilliant job.
Had everything I needed from the book, and didn't drag in any way.
Thank you so much Samantha Lee Howe for writing the book, and bring it to life!
Loved your cameo with David J Howe, brilliant!
Honest opinion I agree with Karen Woodham from Blazing Minds, and would give it a 4 out of 5 myself.
Anyone that's interested please go and read the book of "The Stranger in our bed", I did a review of the book, and the review can be found on Blazing Minds website. Then watch the film, came out yesterday, and can be found on Amazon.

This is a great little thriller that surprised me. I watched with my wife on Showtime but I wasn't sure it was for me. From the start I was gripped though. We are both Sanditon fans and watched because Ben Lloyd-Hughes was in it. Very different role for him and nice chemistry as he played opposite Emily Berrington.
Lots to like about this film, it has a noir feel and was slick and looked beautiful. The scenery was a spectacle and my wife in particular enjoyed seeing the British manor house.
I won't include any spoilers but there a quite a few twists and turns that keep you guessing.
So, highly recommended from us and I'm now very curious about the book too.

Where to start without sounding like a paid endorsement?
It really is that good!
Do not be fooled in thinking the start of the movie gives away the ending, it certainly does not!
Emily Berrington and Ben Lloyd-Hughes brilliant and convincing leads - absolutely no typecasting to compare them to any non thriller previous roles. They absolutely nailed the tension, suspense and drama at every turn. The rest of the cast obviously fed off their energy and it would be wrong to just single out one or two without feeling you were doing the rest a disservice by not mentioning them by name.
Not my usual genre, but the casting made me want to take a look and I wasn't disappointed. Script was written by Samantha Lee Howe who apparently wrote the book, and the actors took hold of it, and we all went along on an intriguing and harrowing journey.
This movie kept you guessing and just when you thought you knew who and what... it twisted on an edge again and had you hooked, before deviating again.
Locations perfect, it was all beautifully constructed from the direction to cinematography to editing.
How they managed to create something this good in the middle of a pandemic is an amazing achievement in itself.
9/10 - Nothing can be truly perfect? Knocking off one star... IDK... it could it have been longer? Was there more in the book they could have included because I really wanted there to be more! Not saying I think they missed anything - the story was definitely well told, just really enjoyed the tension and for once I hadn't worked out straight away what would happen.
Definitely left me with a 'oh wow...' feeling at the end.
Highly recommended viewing!
