Overall a refreshing take on a clichéd genre

While I disagree with many of the reviews--and the low overall score for this film, I do understand as it is not your typical take on a vampire film. This is a story of relationships; vampires only play a small part in the film, but reflect the confusion and choices we make when choosing how to live and who we choose to spend our lives with. What would your choice be if you had to choose for eternity? More realistic than most films of the genre, the main characters struggle with tentative connections that are sharply forced when an accident causes an irrevocable change of plans.

The back and forth indecision of the characters and the uncertainty over the morality of their choices underlies the majority of the film and in this sense was both satisfyingly realistic and annoying. Most films in any genre have boy meet girl, they fall in love, and then do whatever it takes to be together for ever. You won't find this kind of romance here and sometimes it simply becomes irritating--if refreshing.

Personally I found the ending unsatisfactory, but more unpredictable than most films of this nature. As a result of this ambiguity some viewers will not like this film, but if you can empathize with a pair of young people thrust into a different world that seems to force a forever-after choice, you'll--if not enjoy, then appreciate the storyline. The acting was low key but decent and the dialogue pretty realistic--while nothing about the music or cinematography stood out, that's actually the sign of a decent film.

when you're life fades while watching a movie

When daylight fades Is a low budget slow moving, boring vampire movie about love, relationship, and god knows what else. The main problem for me with this movie is the pace and the fact that you really don't care about any of the characters. The main guy is supposedly the underdog of the society whom never has much luck; than one night he meets the women of he's dreams, they have a fight just before things go wrong. And he gets turned in to a vampire with a conscience. Which means he's gonna go around for the rest of the movie preaching about right and wrong and that you can not go around killing people, just cause you're a vampire. Even though he does it him self sometimes He bitch and wines like he is in a Ben stiller movie. This gives me even less sympathy for him. "Oh it's so hard being a vampire", "my conscience is telling me to stop" If you like a vampire movie that moves at snail pace, this might just be the movie for you. It's kind of like a movie about a vampire's struggle with he's inner self and he's conscience. It makes twilight seem Oscar worthy, and they even have sparkling vampires how sad is that

    Daylight Fades

It might be accidental, but one of the vampires in Daylight Fades looks the spit of a young Bill from True Blood. He even talks the same way! Interesting...

The actual movie itself is less of a rip-your-throat spectacle, and more of a thoughtful what would happen if... drama. As in, if your boyfriend suffered fatal injuries in a car accident, would you be happy when your long-lost bloodsucker father reincarnated him as a member of the living dead? It's great having your beau back, but at the cost of him having to stay indoors all days, and uncontrollably feasting on passing humans when the mood takes him? A guy can't just survive on stray cats & dogs alone, ya know...

I found the characters here compelling in the way they interacted with each other, and the low-key undertakings a refreshing change from the usual blood eruptions associated with the genre. It provides direct contrasts between vampires trying to cling onto whatever traces of humanity they possess, to those who give into their base desires and see their former race as just cattle. It also raises an interesting quandary: I'm going to live for eternity. Should I contact my old flame, even though she's now YEARS older? All intriguing questions, and explored in good detail.

Sure, there's the odd dodgy acting moment and bad special effect, but so what? For the relative sum it must have cost to make, it's a bit of a hidden gem. And the final shot is quite beautiful. 6/10
