I watched this film in my college class, it's a course where we watch all kinds of movies. This is a movie I probably wouldn't have watched had it not been for the course, I'm a 30 y/o guy that typically goes for the action, sci-fi, thriller type of flicks.
It started off with some scenes that I felt like I'd seen before in other movies but around 20 mins or so in the film really came alive. I started to actually care about the characters. This film takes place in 2 timelines, one where the cast is in their early 20's and one where they are in their early 50's. While the younger actresses held their own it was their older, veteran counterparts that really drew me in. Their acting and chemistry was top notch. Yes there were some corny parts and I understand why the rating is in the 6's but man their ability to deliver on emotional scenes nearly had me in tears like three times. Yet the film never felt too heavy, it would get deep when necessary then lighten back up like a rain cloud dispersing for the sun.
I'm glad I watched this one, I enjoyed it so much I recommended it to my mom and she really loved it. IMDB only lets you give whole numbers but I'd say it was a 6.8/10, which for me is a pretty solid score.

Great storyline some wont get it so they will rate it low and not a good movie put White folks in the roles and it would be a hit.
Anyway the story is good and so is the acting. Great scenery, old costumes and cars from the past were a blast to see.
Their stories are real. As a Black woman I could identify very well with the characters unlike the reviews by White people which are typical of their character. Each suffered life tragedies that do happen but their friendship helped them to survive all the pain. Death happens, lost love happens, affairs happens, sickness happens a d lasting friendships happen.
Give the movie a chance, see it for yourself with an open mind and heart which unfortunately some people in this day and time don't possess.

They say misery loves company. Apparently horrible scripts love misery as well. This movie is a horribly edited, flashback filled, overly dramatic drama. You see the many train wrecks of these three women before they even happen. Some you won't see because there is no development of the storylines. The bad news is just thrown up on the screen and it makes it so hard to truly feel for these characters.
The first half of the film centers mostly around the past history of the main characters, but as I stated you really can't feel their pain as the movie is always just showing bad news. Eventually the focus moves to the present timeline and the new problems they are dealing with and it still doesn't get any better.
What hurts most watching this is that three of my favorite actresses had their talent wasted on this sad sack script, horribly edited, shoddily directed film. There is a whole lot of pulling on heart strings just to move you without any real connection. I would rather have had a better connected script to truly feel their pain and passion which was never shown.
What I did enjoy was seeing great actresses, great actors, and some new talent to watch in the future.

This was a great movie. At first I thought it would be too long. I didn't even notice the 2 hours because it kept up the pace. It's about life, it's ups and downs. I didn't have any expectations and I loved how it moved through the years. I thought it would be sad; however, I could relate to the plot. The actors were great, some very funny scenes...sad too. It's a great watch if you like really really good movies that are not fairytale-ish. And movies that have great endings where life goes on, good and bad. Hidden gem that I can rewatch and still love this movie. I recommend watching, it's worth it.

I really was looking forward to a movie about the Supremes, something that captured the voices of each of them and I didn't have any expectations of oscar worthiness. Just a heartwarming journey into what their lives were like.
Oh lordy! I set my expectations too high by setting them at zero. In 3rd grade I was told exposition is bad. Show, don't tell
Well get ready for a long Flashback ride on the Exposition train with a narrator that will somehow think they are doing you a service.
Do yourself a huge favour. Watch a Youtube documentary about these amazing women, you will be far more impressed.

I just finished watching this movie and I had to race here to see what score it received on IMDB. Today is 8/24/24 and it's a 6.9. It deserves a higher score. This movie was amazing. All 6 women, the ladies that portrayed the younger versions of the main characters and the women that played the modern day version were phenomenal. I laughed and cried multiple times. It was entertaining from the beginning to the end of the movie. They captured grief, betrayal, love and struggles so beautifully. I felt like I was watching people I knew. After the movie my heart felt so full. This movie should have been in movie theaters. I would have paid to go see it. I know I'm going to tell everyone I know to watch it. I highly recommend it.

In the past 10 years I have been very disappointed with black directors' talent behind the camera, and this movie adds to the list. Tyler Perry is the only lousy director out there who is black. From where I sit, only two black directors rise above the rest: Ryan Coogle and Barry Jenkins. Make no mistake, I know when I am looking at a good-directed movie, and this ain't it.
It took 20 minutes to become disinterested and not care about rest of the movie, click off due to many characters at one time in the beginning. The little i saw, was going in familiar territories of people, places, and things according to generation of black pain.

Loaded with an amazing cast that has such a huge body of work I'm not surprised I enjoyed it. But as a movie I felt it was a little rushed through the story. This heartfelt story of three strong women from their birth and upbringing to their older years has been a welcomed viewing.
The tragedy and triumphs depicted are some that many of us can relate to and though the story skims over some of the emotions one may feel, I think the film hits its mark. If this movie were to be made with the same cast and crew into a miniseries, of six or more episodes, I would give it a 10 out of 10. Perhaps they thought people wouldn't embrace a series and felt cutting it down to two hours would be more agreeable for most viewers.

"The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat" is a melodrama set between 1950 and 1999, focusing on the lives of three friends. The film stars Uzo Aduba as Clarice, Barbara Jean as the fragile beauty, and Auannaue Ellis-Taylor as the bigmouth who narrates the film. The film is directed by Tina Mabry and stars Mekhi Phifer, Russell Hornsby, and Vondie Curtis-Hall. The script, adapted from Edward Kelsey Moore's novel, takes a few liberties, turning the titular hangout into a retro-chic diner and blurring the location to Anytown, America. The score is whimsical and the scene transitions teeter toward the absurd, but it's a treat to watch these believable pals hoist each other back up, taking the occasional breather to clink milkshakes in slow motion. The movie is filled with twists and turns, making it a satisfying indulgence for those looking for a deep-fried decadence. The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat is a movie adapted from Edward Kelsey Moore's bestselling novel and directed by Tina Mabry. The film follows three best friends, played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Uzo Aduba, and Sanaa Lathan, who face various challenges in their later years. The characters, dubbed "the Supremes" due to a resemblance to Diana Ross's singers, are portrayed by Big Earl, the proprietor of Earl's All-You-Can-Eat, a diner where the community gathers for drinks and dancing. The Supremes, who lived at Earl's from 1967 to 1999, work through their love, losses, and regrets, never having anything more than a soda or an unopened bottle of ketchup in front of them. The movie aims to fill a vacuum by choosing joy and laughter over emotional truth, despite the circumstances of its storytelling. The title may be clickbaity, but the movie is a flighty time-hopping drama book-ended by death, highlighting the resilience and resilience of the characters amidst the challenges they face. The film follows the friendship of three young women, Odette, Clarice, and Barbara Jean, who form a bond through female solidarity after losing their abusive mother. Odette, known for her feisty nature, senses that Barbara Jean is in an unsafe situation, and she and Clarice step up as her protectors. They eventually find Barbara Jean a new home with Big Earl, a saintly restaurateur who takes in a young white kid named Ray. Barbara Jean immediately takes to Ray, sensing a kindred spirit from across the racial divide.
At midlife, the girls attend to Big Earl's passing, where his benefactor dies while praying, as though he summoned the higher power to take his life. His widow, Donna Biscoe, turns his funeral into a slapstick farce to disturb her rest. The film is passably likable, but the comedy tends to be broad, the drama unconvincing, and the movie never settles into its competing tones. The narrative has a restlessness, cherry-picking through these lives and rushing the heavier moments, leaving little room for the characters to truly stew in their emotions. This shorthand is especially jarring when we are suddenly presented with crucial details, such as the fact that one character has raised a family when it's briefly mentioned in passing and the child of another dies. The erratic storytelling leaves The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat making gestures towards the movie that it never truly becomes. The film is a cautionary tale about the power of friendship and the need for empathy and understanding in difficult situations.

This movie made me feel like I was laying in the bed on a rainy Sunday watching the lifetime channel of the 80s and 90s. If you know that feeling then you know this was a GOOD drama. It gave me a feeling I hadn't felt in a while, it was a movie that I could connect with and the movie had a purpose. It told 3 very different stories of women navigating personal challenges. I personally loved it and kinda wish this had been a mini series instead of a movie. I was left wanting more of the story..
The acting was great, the story telling was rich, and most of all I felt good watching it.. it's definitely a movie I will watch more than once!

The movie was great as expected! Everyone in the cast did an excellent job, and it was entertainment from beginning to end. The storyline between youg Barbara Jean and young Ray was to me the focus of the movie. Both characters were underdogs but found a love that could not be sustained in that era? The tragedy of a lost child set the tone for the rest of the movie. Both actors in their roles had a great chemistry and a mutual trust and true emotion. I would definitely recommend this to everyonw. Anyone that says this movie is not well done is just being far to critical of a very good product?

The best movie I've seen this year! In the fact, the best in the last 3 years! Optimistic, realistic, well acted and performed! Excellent!!! I refused tot watch movies released after 2020! Too dark and too long! I whatched given the title! I said I'd try IT! It was a pleasure! As for the cast, I don't know witch of the characters I liked better! They all have a special charm! Even Minnie is good spice although, at first, you don't quite understand why she appears! But you are told something of a prophecy! In fact, that's how the movie begins! We all have a purpose in life, and in the end this is transmitted to you! And you understand something else: it's never too late to make a change!
What a movie! I cried a lot because of the situations that were emoted so so well through the three friends- Odette, Clarice and Barbara Jean. All three are different from each other, as different as sunshine and rain and day and night.
Through their friendship, they survive abusive relationships, unhappy marriage, death and loss of loved ones. They also celebrate the love and respect and kindness that comes their way.
While the entire world around them shifts and changes, the only thing constant is their friendship.
There is good humour too and have some hilarious lines. Overall, a great tear-jerker and must watch.

This beautifully shot movie has it all. The beginning felt a little choppy to me, but once you get into the story, you can't help but get invested. The characters were all well thought out, and showed some of the best and worst of humanity. It had me laughing out loud and ugly-crying, sometimes at the same time. And how they jumped around in the time periods was never confusing. Now I need to go find the book because if the movie was this beautiful, I'm sure the book is even better. Why some of these actors didn't get Oscars for their performances is beyond me. All around a very beautiful and well-made movie.

Awesome!
Awesome!
Awesome!
THIS MOVIE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE THEATERS!
I TRULY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE and it was filmed in my home state of North Carolina 😁 The whole cast was amazing and they meshed well!
There were no dead areas at all!
This movie also could have survived being a miniseries 😉 My sister and I watched this movie together! We cried, we laughed so hard, I split my top lip 😂 😂 😂 I love how the sisterhood and friendship of the women were separate but equally interesting!
Again, I truly enjoyed this movie!
I will definitely be watching this over and over and over!
There's nothing wrong with this movie at all!

I felt like this movie was moving so slow. It took me three days to get to the half way point. It definitely sped up after that and became more interesting. It had every single element of drama you'd expect but somehow it was still sweet and heartwarming. I really enjoyed my way to the end. The casting was spot on for the characters! Tati, Aunjanue, Uzo, Sanaa and the up and comers did this film justice. Tati deserves an award for her acting in this! Some of the comedic scenes were obnoxious, but I get it. It's not necessarily something I'd watch twice. Over all, I'm giving it an 8 as it did capture my interest!

Some movies don't get they're just due. This turned out to be a very good movie. It may seem long but the writers and directors are giving you a full meal. I love the way the story is told about how their friendship came to be and what each woman went through. But they didn't leave you wondering about what happened in each of their lives and in the lives of those that they were involved with. You don't start watching a movie expecting to cry but you might as well bring you a box of Kleenex because at some point in this movie you will find yourself crying of you times. Bravo to the writers and the producers and the directors. I am familiar I was not familiar with two of the main characters but they did their thing. Bravo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I really Did not expect this movie to be this good. Went in thinking it would be an ok watch to pass time, but it hit all the things to keep me attentive and satisfied beyond measure- I laughed, cried, even a little suspense thrown in. Brilliantly done. So many nuances, I had to watch again with someone else. I would love to see a part 2. Actors did a great job, especially adults. I'm surprised that more is not talked about with this movie, but I hope it gets awards because it deserves it. I left pondering on several things about my own life and if a movie can do that, it was written well. 10 for sure.
