It's time to talk about Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," one of the most enduring novels in English literature. It is a tale so timeless that countless adaptations — both official and not-so-official — have been made, approaching the source material from all sorts of perspectives. Apart from inspiring cinematic adaptations, Austen's novel has also led to a world of associated stories, including Janet Aylmer's bestselling "Darcy's Story" and the more recent "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which blends period drama with ultra-violent zombie-horror tropes.

Due to the sheer breadth of adaptations, discerning which one is the "best" can certainly be tricky. For starters there's the mix of faithful adaptations versus those loosely inspired by the 1813 novel, such as the Bollywood-style "Bride & Prejudice" or the Emmy-winning "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries." For the sake of simplicity, let's stick to straightforward adaptations, which firmly situate themselves within the novel's text and...

"Pride and Prejudice" is the kind of novel that feels modern no matter when it's read, but Jane Austen herself died in 1817, more than 70 years removed from the invention of motion pictures. In other words, she probably could never have imagined that, hundreds of years in the future, there would be so many recorded dramatic adaptations of her most celebrated work -- nor that one of them, 2005's "Pride & Prejudice," would be able to capture its spirit so brilliantly as to renew passion for the story of Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) and Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) for a whole generation.

Arguably the best Jane Austen adaptation, that Deborah Moggach-scripted, Joe Wright-directed take on the novel was so perfect -- so impeccably attentive to the sharp social observation, the warm family dynamic, the richness of local and temporal texture, and the soul-stirring romanticism of the source material --...

A literary classic gets a 21st-century coat of paint with Young Werther, based on the 1774 novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. The film loosely follows the plot of the book, but has been updated to reflect 2024 sensibilities. Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) stars as the title character, an aristocratic young fop who falls in love with a young woman. The only problem is that she's already engaged to be married to a pretty great guy. Thus, Werther embarks on a quest to win his beloved's heart, whether she's interested or not.

While an inherently unlikable figure on a less-than-righteous mission, Young Werther is nonetheless an endearing story thanks to the script by writer-director José Lourenço and a winning performance by Booth, who imbues the character with an old-timey charm, quick wit, and good-natured harmlessness, even when trying to steal a woman from her fiancé.

The script for Star Trek: Origins, which is not the official name for the movie, written by Seth Grahame-Smith [pictured above], author of the New York Times Bestselling novels, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, reportedly has been finished and is now on its way to an approval. [via Trekmovie] As previously reported, this could mean the movie will begin filming next year and be ready for a release to the big screen in 2026.

At the helm of the movie is Toby Haynes who directed Black Mirror's U.S.S. Callister. That particular episode was written by the series creators Charlie Brooke and William Bridges, who is a Star Trek fan, and was as close to a Star Trek episode as Haynes has gotten. Matt Smith may currently be well-known for his portrayal of Daemon Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, but viewers will forever see him as synonymous with his portrayal of the Doctor on Doctor Who.

Smith portrayed the Eleventh Doctor for three seasons, making just shy of 50 episodes. Alongside David Tennant, his seasons are widely regarded as the golden age of the 'New Who' era of the franchise. Fans are always campaigning for his triumphant return, although Smith himself isn't too interested in reprising his beloved role just yet.

Of course, Smith would go on to grow his illustrious filmography. Notably, he played the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, in Netflix's The Crown. Other big roles include Last Night in Soho and a Marvel debut in Morbius. However, outside of Doctor Who, his biggest role by far is playing Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

One of the all-time best Jane Austen books may be getting a new version on Netflix! Over 200 years after her death, the author is as beloved as ever. Generations have grown up on her novels, which were ahead of their time, exploring issues of feminism, class, and some wonderful romances. In just six books, Austen made herself a literary icon who’s influenced countless writers since.

Not surprisingly, adaptations of Austen’s works have been plentiful. There have even been adaptations of her two posthumous novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion and her unfinished book Sanditon.

Trying to narrow down the best Austen works is difficult as many will cite Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, with Thompson also writing the script, earning her an Oscar. Yet, to many, the topper of Austen’s works is Pride and Prejudice.

A new Pride and Prejudice spinoff show is now in development from Doctor Who producer Bad Wolf. Written by author Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice was released in 1813, following Elizabeth Bennet and her budding romance with Fitzwilliam Darcy. Books that perfectly blend romance and fantasy are among BookTok's favorite titles, typically featuring some stubborn and charismatic characters who give rise to the namesake's intense dynamic. At its core, enemies to lovers is about overcoming initial misunderstandings and prejudices to find a life-changing romance.

Readers also typically enjoy the mystery of an enemies-to-lovers story, with one or both characters having concealed motivations, giving the relationship a thrilling element. But while there are echoes of that here, the two tell their stories in very different ways.

Ariana Greenblatt, who appeared opposite Margot Robbie in last year’s Barbie, will be pulling a rabbit out of her hat.

The actress is joining the ensemble cast of Now You See Me 3, Lionsgate’s long-in-the-works installment of its heist caper thrillers.

Many of the original cast — Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco — are expected to return. The original movies also starred Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo, although it’s not clear if those two will return.

Ruben Fleischer is directing the movie, which garnered a mention last week at Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon.

Lionsgate had no comment on the casting, and it’s unclear who wrote the script. Seth Grahame-Smith, the genre scribe behind The Lego Batman Movie and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Eric Warren have penned drafts over the years.

As reported in Deadline today, Paramount has officially announced that they are developing a new "Star Trek" feature film. It will be the first "Star Trek" movie since the release of "Star Trek Beyond" in 2016, but the fourteenth "Star Trek" film overall.

The new film will be directed by Toby Haynes, a prolific British television director who has helmed episodes of "M.I. High," "Doctor Who," and the British version of "Utopia." His most recent directing job was six episodes of the hit "Star Wars" series "Andor." Interestingly, he also directed the celebrated "Black Mirror" episode "USS Callister," which was a darkly humorous riff on "Star Trek" and science fiction fandom. He also directed the 2019 TV movie "Brexit: The Uncivil War" starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The new "Star Trek" film is slated to be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the books "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

“Star Trek” is about to explore a whole new era of its timeline. A new film in the universe Gene Roddenberry created, to be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for Paramount, and directed by “Andor” helmer Toby Haynes and written by “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” scribe Seth Grahame-Smith, is arriving at impulse power, if not warp.

The film will be set decades before the events of the 2009 “Star Trek” film Abrams directed, which explored a parallel timeline to the main “Star Trek” canon viewers have known and loved to show how Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) met for the first time. It’s unclear if it will actually be set in that timeline — known to Trekkies as the “Kelvin Timeline” — or in the main continuity. But apparently it will be an “origin” story, so it must be connected in some way to “Trek” storytelling that’s already known and loved.

A new “Star Trek” film is in the works at Paramount with “Andor’s” Toby Haynes on board to direct and Seth Grahame-Smith penning the script, Variety has confirmed.

Longtime lit agent and manager Shari Smiley has died. Smiley passed away Tuesday at age 53. Cause of death is not yet known.

Smiley had a long career in book to movie circles, and most recently had restarted her Smiley Management banner. Before that she had been at 3 Arts, this after a four year stint at The Gotham Group. There, she sold the dramatic rights to several titles, notably In A Dark, Dark Wood, The Barbizon and An Anonymous Girl, all of which resulted in bidding wars. Gillian Anderson has been cast in Netflix’s Western drama series “The Abandons” from creator Kurt Sutter.

For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.

Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Lena Headey is set to star in Kurt Sutter’s upcoming Netflix series “The Abandons,” Variety has learned.

The Western series was ordered at the streamer in October 2022. The official series description states: “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. Lionsgate has tapped Ruben Fleischer to direct the third installment of action-heist franchise “Now You See Me.”

The “Venom,” “Uncharted” and “Zombieland” director will take the helm of the third installment of the story of the thieving illusionists know as the Four Horsemen, while also featuring a new generation of characters.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane announced the new film, which will get a new draft of the screenplay by “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith. The previous draft was by Eric Warren Singer.

The previous films starred Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Morgan Freeman, and have grossed 687 million worldwide.

The new installment will be produced by Bobby Cohen, alongside Alex Kurtzman of Secret Hideout. Meredith Wieck and Chisom Ude will oversee for Lionsgate.

She may not have been a best-selling author when she was alive, but later critics would recognize Jane Austen as one of the most important writers in all of western fiction. That’s why it’s no surprise that there are dozens of adaptations of her work, with some of them dating back to the very origins of cinema. However, one of the most interesting interpretations of her stories is Burr Steers’ Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s literary parody of the same name.

The 2009 novel was already quite the oddity, having been originally commissioned by Jason Rekulak, an editor who wanted to pair popular genre tropes with famous public domain stories. In fact, Grahame-Smith’s book wasn’t so much a complete reimagining of Pride and Prejudice...

Jane Austen knew a thing or two about complicated women and the way they move through the world. The author’s iconic bibliography — from “Pride and Prejudice” and “Emma” to “Sense and Sensibility,” and those are the just the English class curriculum bangers — has always hinged on indelible heroines and their Regency-era attempts to get their lives in order. These stories are both beholden to their time and place and undeniably universal in their concerns and charms.

Austen’s books have inspired all manner of adaptations on both stage and screen, from the faithful (Ang Lee’s luminous “Sense and Sensibility”) to the lightly loosened and even the straight-up free-wheeling (“Bridget Jones’s Diary”) to the mostly inane (“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”).
