Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter is all set to release on January 25. This will be the 16th film in the last 13 years. From 2011 to 2023, 14 films have tried to tap into the opportunity for a great box office number around the Republic Day weekend. Right from Aamir Khan Productions’ Dhobi Ghat in 2011, which collected 14 crore at the box office, to Pathaan in 2023, January 26 weekend has witnessed 15 releases.

Hrithik Roshan’s first Republic Day release was Agneepath, released on January 26 in, 2012. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone’s first Republic Day release was Race 2 in 2013, which collected 102 crore at the box office.

In the last 13 years, these 15 Bollywood films have made the best use of the Republic Day weekend, and most of them have fared well at the box office.

Gadar 2 is a period-action-drama directed by Anil Sharma. A sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. With Gadar 2, the Katha (story) continues and picks up from where it left. Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), Sakeena, Tara Singh’s wife (Ameesha Patel) and Charan Jeet Singh aka Jeete, Tara and Sakeena’s son (Utkarsh Sharma), the three key characters and actors reprise their roles from the first part.

What also continues is the nostalgic song and dance sequences from the first part recreated and revisited to retain the texture and feel of the film. To be fair to the new generation, if you have seen this Gadar 2, then you have very well missed almost nothing if you hadn’t seen Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Though Jacqueline Fernandez is very excited about doing Hollywood films, the actress seems to have no interest in ditching her Bollywood career. Obviously, after her much popular Kick with Salman Khan turned out to be the blockbuster of 2014, Jacqueline seems to be on a roll signing films. Now we hear that her next will be directed by Rohit Dhawan. Rohit Dhawan, who is currently helming a two hero project, has decided to rope in Jacqueline Fernandez for his upcoming film. The untitled film has John Abraham and Rohit's brother Varun Dhawan in the lead. While this will be the first time that Varun will be acting with John and Jacqueline, John and the Sri Lankan beauty have prior to this done films like Race 2 and Housefull 2. With 'Lat Lag Gayi' (Race 2) and 'Jumme Ki Raat' (Kick), Jacqueline Fernandez has set a new benchmark when it comes to dance in Bollywood and now she has decided to go a step beyond and learn an Indian classical dance form. No, it is not for hobby but the actress will be learning Bharatnatyam for one of her upcoming films. After months of endless promotions and preparations, Bollywood Showstoppers finally took place at London’s O2 arena on Sunday 3 August. The show took place just after the Eid festivities, which made it even more special. After more than a year of its release, Race 2 faces censor troubles owing to its racy content. The Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) has denied the permission to air this Saif Ali Khan starrer on Doordarshan. However, this is not the first time that a Bollywood film has faced this issue. Previously many films like The Dirty Picture have been under the censorship radar for months owing to its bold content.

Race 2 was one of the most successful films of 2013 and the certification given to the film during the time of release was U/A which means that children above 12 years of age are allowed to view the content. However, due to the stringent rules of the Censor Board, they refused to air the film on Doordarshan stating that the content is not suitable for audience viewing and the theme of the film is titillating.
