“Are you married?”
“I hate men.”
“Then, you have no hope.”
“My hope is to die.”
The conversation in the search description takes place on a ride home, under the pouring rain. It is initiated by a man, who happens to be Japan’s no. 3 hitman, and answered by a woman, who is a suicidal femme fatale. Witnessing their first exchange is a dead bird, hung between them. And in this weirdest of all film-noir films, the scene belongs to a long line of surreal, mind-boggling, out-of-this-world scene after scene after scene after scene.
“Japanese films are weird” is surely a stereotype most of you, if not all of you, have heard at least once before. It is not entirely true and not entirely mistaken. With cult titles like Funky Forest (2005), Hausu (1977), Big Man Japan (2007), Versus (2000), Tokyo Gore Police (2008), RoboGeisha (2009), Tetsuo the Iron Man...

Cult Japanese film director Nboru Iguchi (The Machine Girl, Robo-Geisha, The ABCs of Death) returns with yet another madcap comedy horror, full to the brim with Ott special effects, CGI gore and full-on action sequences. There's also the obligatory token nudity, flying fish, irreverent humour, killer tuna and enough flesh eating Sashimi to make your skin crawl. Everything we love about Nboru Iguchi then. Keiko (Rina Takeda) is a cute and clumsy trainee sushi chef who finds her kung fu skills come in handy when some infected flying sushi start to bite back. Will Keiko be able to save a group of nasty businessmen from the unrelenting terror of the killer fish dishes? Can Iguchi prevent his latest horror comedy from flushing itself down the cinematic toilet to fishy heaven? Will Asami keep her clothes on for once? I really hope this madness never ends. Dead Sushi is a loveable romp with cartoon characters,...

This Japanese film, directed by Noboru Iguchi (Tokyo Gore Police, Robo-Geisha), is one of those films that is unique to its region. It blends action, comedy and horror with splatter gore and over-the-top sequences to creature a truly distinctive concept.
It’s a love or hate thing, some might say. The whole way in which films like Dead Sushi, and others like it, are done will certainly bring conversation to the table. The performances often border on ridiculous but have a particular and peculiar charm to them that will divide opinions depending on whether or not this type of movie is “for you”.
Dead Sushi follows a girl, who is skilled in kung-fu by the way, who is also the daughter of a sushi-chef. She finds the expectations placed upon her too...

Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead had its Canadian premiere during the Fantasia International Film Festival, and Trembles came back with a Motion Picture Purgatory review for the film from mad genius Noboru Iguchi. Check it out!
Subtitled Toilet Of The Dead, this episode of excremental excess from Noboru Iguchi (Mutant Girls Squad, last year’s Karate-robo Zaborgar) is grindhouse as all hell, from the hilarious trailer and funky opening credits to its references to cult-film classics like Re-animator and Spider Baby and its delicious early-’80s score (Suspiria meets Halloween). Throw in some flashback bullying, numerous butt cracks, monsters care of FX freak Yoshihiro Nishimura, tentacle erotica (!), and some Cronenberg-style body-horror in a Troma vernacular (read: plenty of kinky nudity and cheap gore galore), and you get the idea here (sort of). Last September we bought you a some new artwork and stills from Noboru Iguchi's ('Robo-Geisha') new Japanese horror comedy 'Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead'. It was being tagged as 'the most crap-tastic zombie movie ever to emerge from Japan's cinema sewer' and the newly revealed trailer for the bizarre flick which has now arrived certainly fuels that label. The trailer (shown below) features hot girls farting, shit covered toilet zombies, exploding heads, puke and topless Japanese chicks. It's quite the odd mixture to take in on a Friday afternoon. The movie stars Arisa Nakamura, Mayu Sugano, Asami, Yuki, Dani, Kentaro Kishi, Kentaro Shimazu, Demo Tanaka and the gorgeous Asana Mamoru (below). Dear Lord, it’s freaking glorious. Noboru Iguchi’s “Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead” appeals directly to the deformed Troma fan living within the hollow spaces of my soul, so I don’t expect everyone to be as excited about the flick as I am. After all, watching crap-covered zombies getting their asses handed to them by a butt-kicking schoolgirl doesn’t exactly have mass appeal, though it really should. I’ll take this sort of nonsense over your Oscar bait any day of the week. Believe it. I believe a lengthy synopsis is in order: We are going to flush you! It may be under nourished, decaying and rank however soon we're all going to be able to feast our eyes on Noboru Iguchi's ('Robo-Geisha') 'Zombie Ass'. The zombie movie which carries the tagline 'Toilet of the Dead', seriously, is being hailed as 'the most crap-tastic zombie movie ever to emerge from Japan's cinema sewer'. Lovely stuff. The new Japanese tongue in cheek horror from the director of 'The Machine Girl' has also unleashed some new assets. A new one-sheet below at first glance gives us a sexy hot Asian school girl touting a massive gun, but on closer inspection I fear she may be covered in smelly foulness. 'Zombie Ass' will premiere at the Fantastic Fest 2011 being held later this month in Austin, Texas. Check out the poster, new stills and synopsis below....

Takashi Shimizu, an icon of modern Japanese horror cinema thanks to his hugely successful “Ju-on” series and its Hollywood “The Grudge” remakes, returns with “Shock Labyrinth”, the country’s first full length live action digital 3D feature. The film is actually based upon ‘The Haunted Hospital’, apparently world’s largest walk-through haunted house attraction, located in the famous Fuji-q Highland theme park. Although a film inspired by a fairground funhouse may sound a little dubious, the production is filled with Shimizu’s trademark surrealism, featuring an offbeat and ambitious narrative alongside plenty of scares and visual flourishes. The film has a cast of popular Japanese stars, including Ai Maeda (“Death Note: The Last Name”), Suzuki Matsuo (“Robo-Geisha”), Misako Renbutsu (“The Battery”), Shoichiro Masumoto (“Tokyo Gore Police”) and Yuya Yagira (“Nobody Knows”). Thankfully, the film retains its gimmick on the small screen, with the DVD release through Chelsea Films coming with both 2D and 3D versions,...

A few months back, we told you about Noboru Iguchi’s biggest budgeted film in Karate-Robo Zaborgar (here), a reboot to the classic Japanese cult show. Iguchi is balls-out crazy, and that’s something fans of his work (Machine Girl) already know, but there’s something really charming in the below stills. Remember that time when you were young and robots and Power Rangers were just the coolest way to start your Saturday morning? These stills give me that nostalgia. Enjoy:

Robo-Geisha is Iguchi Noboru’s latest anarchic assault on the senses so if you thought geishas were quiet and demure; it’s time to think again. Special effects wizard Nishimura Yoshihiro provides the sublime visual trickery as Robo Geisha unleashes all-out geisha war on modern-day Japan. If you’ve seen the likes of Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl you all ready know what to expect, but this time they’ve added a pinch of sci-fi to the mix as well. Sure, the Netherlands has their Human Centipedes and Denmark has Lars Von Trier and mutilating masturbation, and the U.S. has Bride Wars. But that is but a drop in the bucket compared to the full on, monkey-shittingly insane movies that come out of that kooky little island.
A couple of weeks ago, we posted the trailer for Big Tits Zombie in 3D, a brain-licker of a flick that, while short on the tits, was in no way short on the zombies. Now, we have yet another batshit, wackadoo crazypants trailer, this time for Robo-Geisha. It's directed by Noboru Iguchi, who has a resume littered with similarly nutso titles -- if I had to choose, my top choices would be Shyness Machine Girl, Doctor's Enema, and my personal fave -- Entrails of a...

As if Tak Sakaguchi, Noboru Iguchi, and Yoshihiro Nishimura teaming up to direct Mutant Girls Squad (which we told you about here) wasn't splatter-tastic enough, now comes word that the Iguchi, Nishimura, and Takashi Shimizu TV show entitled The Ancient Dogoo Girl is being adapted into a feature film. What will our Japanese friends think of next?
Twitch explains that The Ancient Dogoo Girl, which was initiated by Machine Girl director Iguchi, who then roped in pals Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police) and Shimizu (Ju-on) to direct episodes, [was] produced for a minor Japanese cable network available only in parts of the country [so] a healthy portion of Japan hasn't even been able to see it yet. But that's about to change.
For more lowdown on the project, let's turn to Outcast Cinema's Marc Walkow: The series stars 20-year-old photo model Erika Yazawa - whose assets are clearly visible on her chest - as Dogu-chan,...

Regular readers of Twitch may very well recall us mentioning The Ancient Dogoo Girl a good while back. A low budget television series initiated by Machine Girl director Noboru Iguchi -- who then roped in pals Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police) and Takashi Shimizu (Juon, The Grudge) to direct episodes -- and produced for a minor Japanese cable network available only in parts of the country, Dogoo revolves around an ancient yokai-battling warrior revived in modern times. As you'd expect from an Iguchi project, the lead is not exactly shy about showing off flesh and the entire thing is shot through with crazy creatures and unrepentant adolescent energy.
The big question, of course, is when people would be able to see this thing. Heck - a healthy portion of Japan hasn't even been able to see it yet, so what are the chance of it being seen over here? Well,...
