After the excellent The Night and The Barcelona Vampiress (2020-both also reviewed) I decided to end the night of viewings,by watching the first of two shorts from the Grimm Film Festival.
View on the film:
Getting Paula tangled into the workings of the hair salon, co-writer/(with Christopher Palm) director Dominic Kubisch & cinematographer Maximilian Smoliner cut a sharp kooky retro atmosphere of slick chrome coloured panning shots over the 50's jukebox dropping a new track, as a hair-pulling murder takes place.
While featuring a hair-raising twist, the writers keep the explanation for it occurring annoyingly vague, which sadly undermines the ambiguous anxiety gripping Paula,as she makes the final cut.
