The original runtime was over 17 minutes but was trimmed down at the advisement of director Jim Cummings, who is known for his one-take style.

Andy Gates originally auditioned for the part of Jay, which is played by Dustin Hahn. However, the production team liked Gates' audition so much that they re-wrote the part of Fuchs specifically for him.
