This year's edition of Cannes film festival offered a number of high quality titles from Asia, both in competiton(s) and side bar programmes. One of the most awaited films was Takeshi Kitano's “Kubi” screened in Premiere section, in director's presence. Back to the samurai genre, 20 years after the critically acclaimed “Zatoichi” and with a period piece based on his own historic novel published in 2019, Kitano struggled to bring his characters close to the audience, but stayed faithful to the title by making many heads roll. “Kubi” (which was also the title of his novel) means “neck”, a beloved target of the samurai sword. This is allegedly the last film by “Beat”, if we take his statement before the festival kicked off seriously.

The Emmy race, once again, is all about breaking through to the voters, as 2022 saw 599 scripted series air — 40 more than 2021. It’s easier said than done, especially with the amount of excellent content from comedy and dramas to limited series and shows that could qualify for multiple genres. (We’ll get to that!)
The 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will conside all series airing between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. Voting runs from June 15-26, with nominations unveiled July 12. Final voting takes place Aug. 17-28, with the Sept. 18 awards ceremony broadcast on Fox. The Creative Arts Emmys will be presented in two ceremonies held on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10.
Variety takes a closer look at this year’s race and what to keep an eye on as Emmy season kicks off.

King Charles found out about the Queen around the same time as the world. Pic credit: ©ImageCollect.com/StillsPress
The day Queen Elizabeth II passed away was like a rollercoaster, with doctors making an unprecedented statement about her health just hours before she died.
The royal family made a dramatic dash to be at her side as their fleet of cars, including a Range Rover driven by Prince William with Prince Andrew and the Earl and Countess of Wessex as passengers, were seen quickly driving into Balmoral.
Just over an hour later, Queen Elizabeth II’s death was announced, and Prince Charles became King Charles III.
While that all played out on the news, behind the scenes was even more dramatic, with King Charles finding out about her poor health around the same time as the statement broke to the rest of the world.
