I was lucky enough to be able to watch both the series Tali's wedding diary and Tali's baby diary thanks to a South African colleague with a login to Showmax here in and they are the most excruciatingly perfect comedy shows in many a year.
Julia's creation of Tali is spot on but it is also the supporting cast of characters from Rael Rosen to Michelle and Silesi that make the show so watchable.
The plots are tinged with genius and the attention to detail absolutely sublime.
The series only gets better and better and The Maternity Shoot might be up there with the Palestinian Chicken episode from Curb as the most perfectly realised 30 minutes of comedy this century.
It is amazing that the show has not found it's way over to the uk yet. It is just what is needed to break down the self importance of some of the modern shows that pass for comedy and remind people that it is ok to laugh at everyone and everything.

Supporting SA film productions is rarely satiating. 90% are mediocre if not bad. The major problems being writing and then acting. Tali's Baby Diary is a rare gem that should have ended on Netflix so that many people watch it. There literally is nothing wrong with this production. I just completed watching the third episode. I could have written this review after watching the first episode but I thought it was a fluke. But its consistently good that it won several awards at the South African Film and Television Awards. The witty dialogue stands out for me. The production design is American-is which is the standard all filmmakers should thrive for if doing a production like this. All the actors are great. No weak link.
