This year’s AFI Fest will play home to some major contenders, thanks to a sterling World Cinema lineup that boasts no less than 13 official Best Foreign Language Film Oscar entries from around the globe. The annual Los Angeles festival has announced its latest picks, including a World Cinema section rounded out by 30 films from 39 different countries. Of those films, over a dozen are already in contention for Oscar attention, from festival favorites like “A Ciambra,” “Foxtrot,” and “A Fantastic Woman” to new works from modern masters like “Happy End” and “Thelma.”

The Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced the 25 films for the main slate of the 55th New York Film Festival.

This year’s selection showcases films honoured at Cannes such as Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or-winner The Square, Robin Campillo’s Critics’ Prize winner Bpm, and Agnès Varda and Jr’s Faces Places.

From Berlin, Aki Kaurismäki’s Silver Bear winner The Other Side Of Hope and Agnieszka Holland’s Alfred Bauer Prize-winner Spoor mark the returns of two New York Film Festival veterans, while Luca Guadagnino makes his debut with Call Me By Your Name (pictured).

It’s beginning to look a lot like fall festival season. On the heels of announcements from Tiff and Venice, the 55th edition of the New York Film Festival has unveiled its Main Slate, including a number of returning faces, emerging talents, and some of the most anticipated films from the festival circuit this year.

This year’s Main Slate showcases a number of films honored at Cannes including Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or–winner “The Square,” Robin Campillo’s “Bpm,” and Agnès Varda & Jr’s “Faces Places.” Other Cannes standouts, including “The Rider” and “The Florida Project,” will also screen at Nyff.

In celebration of country music’s top songwriters, the industry’s biggest stars stepped out for the 2013 Broadcast Music, Inc. Country Awards in Nashville on Tuesday (November 5).

Luke Bryan showed off his dapper smile, while Miranda Lambert showed off her slim figure and struck a pose with the night’s guest of honor Dean Dillon.

Other attendees included newcomer Kacey Musgraves and powerhouse trio The Band Perry. In addition, aspiring country singer/actress Lucy Hale made an appearance and is expected to be at tonight’s (November 6) Cma Awards.

There were quite a few winners last night, including Hunter Hayes taking home Song of the Year for “Wanted.”

Mr Sunshine star Andrea Anders has hinted that her character will become involved in a love triangle. On the ABC sitcom, Alice (Anders) ditched her casual relationship with Ben (Matthew Perry) for a more serious romance with the confident Alonzo (James Lesure). She told Zap2it: "It's one of those things in life that you have this person that you really care about and you really like and you really want to be with them, but because you're so focused on their flaws you tend to go look for somebody else who's easier." "Mr. Sunshine" is Matthew Perry's return to a regular series after the unfortunate "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" misstep (a show which did not live up to the high expectations but which was not nearly as bad a show as many viewed it at the time; it was just a misfire). Perry plays Ben Donovan, the manager of operations for the Sunshine Center, a San Diego stadium that plays host to the local ice hockey team and, in the premiere, a circus. Presumably, the stadium also hosts concerts and rallies and the like. Donovan is tasked with running the joint and making sure everyone has a good time, and there's no question that the show is envisioned to be Perry's vehicle -- he is, of course, "Mr. Sunshine" (because of his job and "ironically" because of his less-than-sunny disposition).

Coming to you tonight, Matthew Perry returns to television in Mr. Sunshine. He's the general manager of the Sunshine Center, an arena that hosts a variety of sports events, the circus, political rallies, and who knows what else, and he's responsible for making everything run smoothly. That requires a special kind of chaotic dance, and Ben Donovan (Perry), well... he muddles through, generally without causing more damage than he's trying to prevent.

It would be a tricky enough job just with the maintenance issues, employee relations, and missing elephants, but he also has to deal with his unpredictable boss, Crystal (Allison Janney). Part of the trouble there is that she has thrown her son Roman (Nate Torrence) at him, and demanded that Ben find him a job somewhere among the arena's countless staffing opportunities. Jay Electronica is on what can best be described as a world tour. Stationed now in London after making stops in Egypt and Jordan, the New Orleans rapper says he's overseas both out of curiosity and for work purposes. Electronica is wrapping up Act II, the follow-up to his much-heralded mixtape Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge).

His next tape will feature the breakout track "Exhibit C" and mark the first offering from the nomadic Mc since he premiered the Just Blaze-produced single earlier this year on Eminem's SiriusXM satellite radio station, Shade 45.

"It's gonna be finished soon," Jay Elect told the UK's DJ Semtex about Act II during a recent interview. "I want to release it on my birthday, that's September 19, and I'm pushing toward that.

New York — Lil Wayne lives by his own rules when it comes to recording music and, apparently, when it comes to making movies too.

The rapper is the subject of the forthcoming documentary "The Carter," set for a straight-to-dvd release Tuesday. The film, much like Wayne's records, is anything but conventional.

In fact, according to the project's producer, Quincy Jones III ("Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel," "Beef"), the Cash Money Records lyricist shunned the idea of a typical documentary in favor of a more raw, vérité look at his life.
