Blaze Foley: Duct Tape Messiah

This was an amazing documentary about one of my favorite songwriters. I only wish it were longer, but it looks like there is a dvd with special features that I can look forward to seeing. Blaze Foley is one of my favorite songwriters, and I&#39;m sure his popularity will increase with the release of the new feature film &quot;Blaze,&quot; directed by Ethan Hawke. Duct Tape Messiah will be essential viewing for anyone intrigued by Blaze&#39;s character in the film and wanting to know more about his music. Duct Tape Messiah has great interviews with friends and fellow songwriters and well-done animations illustrating interesting events in Blaze&#39;s life. Thanks Kevin Triplett for making this film and letting us learn more about Blaze&#39;s life and art.

This film is a wonderful collection of personal memories, of ongoing tall tales (he was over 6&#39;4&quot;), and of the songs, sounds, and stories left behind by one of Austin&#39;s true urban legends. The film weaves narratives, photos, and interviews with film clips and recordings of Blaze. We learn about his childhood and his years as Deputy Dawg. We learn of his true loves - women, whiskey, and writing. His death is an authentic tragedy and our loss is deep, but thanks to the hard work of this filmmaker, Blaze will live on in our hearts and minds. With duck tape in hand, I almost want to go down to the Greyhound Station and buy a ticket to ride! Almost. Instead, I&#39;ll just have another snoot of brandy...for medicinal porpoises. For Blaze.
