Director John Michael Williams revealed on the "Hey Fam" podcast that he got the idea for the film from his childhood friend and fellow animator Tim Avery. Tim told Michael about the time that he went to a company Halloween party and couldn't find his Id. The director imagined a story about the Easter Bunny losing Easter eggs in the same way that Tim misplaced his Id.
