The name of the zeppelin is "Herumfurzen". That is German and means "farting around".
This miniseries was produced for the U.S. SyFy channel, and a large part of the cast consists of actors who have previously appeared in SyFy (previously "SciFi") productions, such as: Tahmoh Penikett and Alessandro Juliani (Battlestar Galactica (2004)); Alan Cumming (Tin Man (2007)); Peter Wingfield (Caprica (2009)); Kwesi Ameyaw(Battlestar Galactica (2003) and Eureka (2006)); Arnold Pinnock (Warehouse 13 (2009)).
The incident described by engineer Amalie Fabarge, where female engineering students are murdered by a gunman, is a reference to the École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal in 1989, when fourteen women students were shot by a disturbed woman-hater, as shown in the film Polytechnique (2009).
Peter Wingfield and Chiara Zanni had small roles in X2: X-Men United (2003), in which Alan Cumming was a co-star.
When people appear on Riverworld or are resurrected, it is in their natural form, without scars. During his 1855 exploration of east Africa, Burton's party was attacked by hostiles and he was hit by a spear that went through his mouth and palette, leaving large scars on both cheeks. It is not visible in his present state.
