Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End have been eagerly waiting for Season 2 since its announcement last September. While an official release date hasn’t been revealed, it’s expected to be at least a year away. For those who can’t wait to rejoin Frieren, Fern, and Stark on their journey, there’s exciting news—a brand-new novel is on the way!
This new novelization is written by Yui Tokiumi, the author behind the Blue Period novel adaptation. Unlike the previous Frieren prequel novel, which explored an original story, this book will be a direct adaptation of the manga. Blue Period is a mature story about professional development and inner strength. Yamaguchi portrays the struggles of university students and the uncertainty of their professional futures. Yatora's journey in the manga reflects universal themes of self-identity and dedication in pursuing success.
Often, anime series are filled with fun tropes and exciting fights, but not Blue Period. Despite not being the usual eye-catching manga, it still gained vast popularity after winning Kodanshas Best General Manga in 2020 and then receiving an anime adaptation in 2021. Blue Period is more of an introspective and mature story, common traits for a seinen manga. Although its been over five years since it began serializing, the storys premise only becomes more relevant as time passes, reflecting a widespread problem todays youth faces.

Back in 2023, it was reported that the manga would be going on a lengthy hiatus, but no specific reason for it has been provided. It probably had to do with the mangaka’s fatigue and health, which is the most common reason for hiatuses in the industry. And while it had been confirmed...
