It’s almost July and that means Netflix is about to give their content a refresh. Some of the notable titles leaving include: Super Troopers, Descent, and The Muppets take Manhattan. So if you haven’t seen some of these titles, plan your nights accordingly. We of course can look forward more than a few new titles including the premiere of Bojack Horseman’s second season (voiced by Will Arnett) and one of my favorite movies Alive, pictured above.
We also get the return of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp; the eight-episode series is a prequel to Wain’s 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer. The series will launch July 31.
Available July 1
Alive (1993)
An Honest Liar (2014)
Bad Hair Day (2015)
Bionicle: The Legend Reborn (2009)

Want to revisit "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" before "Terminator: Genisys" opens? Better do it before July 1, when Netflix says "Hasta la vista" to the 1991 sequel.
If you have a hankering to watch "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Moonstruck," "Cast Away," or "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," get on it, because those are also disappearing in July.
And start marathoning these TV classics before they go poof: "Leave it to Beaver," "Dragnet," "Mission: Impossible," "Hawaii Five-o," "Magnum P.I.," "Miami Vice," "Knight Rider," "Melrose Place" and "Wings." Also bid goodbye to the Stephen King miniseries "The Stand" (1994) and "The Langoliers" (1995).
Below is a complete list of the movies that Netflix is pulling from your streaming list. And, just so you're not left empty-handed, here's a list of what's new on Netflix in July 2015. (All titles and dates provided by Netflix and subject to change.)

Comedian Louis C.K. finds himself an overnight sensation after 25 years in the biz. Now he’s earned four Emmy nominations for writing and acting on his critically praised FX comedy Louie as well as for writing and editing his stand-up special Louis C.K.: Hilarious for Epix premium cable channel. But best of all, C.K. (a play on his last name Szekely) is widely hailed by his peers as the gold standard in stand-up. He spoke with Deadline TV Contributor Ray Richmond: Deadline: How does it feel for Ricky Gervais to call you ‘The Funniest Stand-up Working In America’ or Chris Rock refer to you as ‘The Greatest Comic Mind Of The Last Quarter Century’? Louis C.K.: It’s nice to hear, but also a little weird, you know? You can’t buy into any of it. Hearing it doesn’t make me better at anything and probably does the opposite.

His eponymous FX comedy may have been snubbed in the best comedy series category, but comedian Louis C.K. still managed to become the most nominated person at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards with four noms, sharing the honors with The Lonely Island's Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. Louis C.K. was nominated in the lead comedy actor category for his role on FX's Louie, in the writing for comedy series category for penning the Poker/Divorce episode of the show, as well as in two Variety, Music or Comedy special categories for his Epix comedy special Louis C.K.: Hilarious -- for writing and for editing. Three of Schaffer and Taccone's four nominations were in the Original Music and Lyrics category, in which The Lonely Island's Schaffer, Taccone and Andy Samberg have a regular presence, often in tandem with Justin Timberlake, having won an Emmy together for Dick In a Box.

Hey Rob Corddry, what do you think about having comedians honor comedians?
“They should do that! I think that’s a great idea,” the former Daily Show correspondent told EW at the Comedy Awards. “Just get a bunch of comedians together in black tie.” Okay, somebody’s either being really snarky or hasn’t been paying attention, since Comedy Central’s first annual awards were just that — with Corddry himself picking up the Golden Microphone for Best Sketch Comedy/Alternative Comedy Series (Childrens’ Hospital).

You know what the world needs? Another Hollywood award show. We just don't have enough of those things. Luckily, the folks over at Comedy Central still have their wicked sense of humor, because that's exactly what they gave us on Saturday night, as the first annual Comedy Awards were given out in New York City.
The big winners? Tina Fey, Zach Galifianakis -- and your funny bone.
Looks like that new award show was a pretty good idea after all.
Fey, of course, is pretty much on top of the comedy world, so her win in the Best Comedy Actress in Film for her role in "Date Night" is no surprise. Nor in the victory by Galifianakis, who could have earned the Best Comedy Actor in Film trophy for any number of different roles last year, but actually won for "Dinner for Schmucks." Louis C.K. is one of America’s most talented and most honest comedians. Over the past few years, he has given audiences the skinny on many of society’s most important issues and lucky for us, his latest comedy concert, Hilarious is being released on DVD to start 2011 off right.
Hilarious is Louis C.K.’s third one-hour comedy special after Shameless, and Chewed Up. It was filmed and recorded at The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee in April of 2009 and had the honor, and privilege of being the first stand-up comedy film ever accepted into the Sundance Film Festival.
The program is rather long for a stand up comedy routine clocking in at almost 80 minutes but that’s okay because this is some funny stuff. Louis C.K.’s brand of humor is unique in that he exposes many of culture’s most uncomfortable and taboo topics.

[1] As the year comes to an end, anybody and everybody are posting their best of the year lists. Most of these lists contain variations of the same 15 or 20 films. To break the mold, some are even posting lists of the best films of the year that you probably haven't seen. I find that even these lists are filled with the same movies. And if you're a film geek reading a site like /Film, chances are you know about most of the movies on these lists. I wanted to do something different and compile a list of the best films of the year that you've never heard of. The selections should be movies that (for the most part) none of your family or friends have heard of, and you might even have to do some extra legwork to get your hands on. It is not an easy task. The Social Network Each year, there are always a select number of standout films that astound through their remarkable craftsmanship. More rare, meanwhile, are the films that achieve this while also providing prescient insight into our evolving culture. The Social Network is the latter. While film may not have seemed like the medium best suited to communicate how the internet has altered the world, the dynamite pairing of director David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin transforms the topic into a fiercely entertaining, cinematically rich experience. Never before has the use of computers in film been so thrilling without needing to abandon total authenticity. And for all its rhythmically-charged dialogue sparring sessions set to Trent Reznor's electric score,...

It's been a good year smallscreen-wise for Louis C.K., and continues into 2011 with his Comedy Central special airing January 9. In his hilarious special, Louis C.K. gives viewers his irreverent take on awkward openers for stand up, pick up lines, mortality, single fatherhood and life after forty in "Louis C.K.: Hilarious," a one-hour stand-up live concert film debuting Sunday, January 9 at 10:00 p.m. "Divorce is always good news," says Louis, as he tells his audience "no good marriage ends in divorce." C.K.'s unique observations were captured at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Wi, and he also waxes about not keeping up his appearances, now that he is single once again. "I have no identity in the...

The stand-up comedian and star of FX’s latest hit show Louie, Louis C.K. is truly the comedian’s comedian. Known for his fearlessness and self-loathing, Louis C.K. always manages to find humor in the darkest of places. This is a man who pulls no punches and makes no apologies for his material. Ever the line-stepper; no topic if off limits (even his own children!). Yet, even when the comedian is covering a topic that might sound crass or inappropriate coming from someone else, he always manages to engage the audience without offending unduly. By his own admission, he likes to “take audiences to a bad place, then make them happy they went there”.

If you've been watching Louis C.K.'s phenomenal new show "Louie," which just wrapped an against-expectations successful season on FX, you might, on seeing the man live, feel a strong urge to give him a hug. He seems like he could use one. C.K., who brought his stand-up concert doc "Louis C.K.: Hilarious," shot at a 2009 performance in Milwaukee, to NYC's IFC Center last night and tonight, is a maestro of his own misery, using breathtakingly profane comedy to chronicle his recent divorce, his reentry into the dating scene, his experiences caring for his two daughters, aging, his looks and, overall, the ever-more-real threat of mortality. There have always been comics who've traded on failure and self-loathing, but there's a warmth to "Louie" that belies its notably dark territory.

Late last night I saw the Louis C.K. concert film Louis C.K.: Hilarious, which I may or may not review because, well, it's a comedy concert film and you pretty much know what you're in for. But one of his lines that stuck with me, and has been quoted at me repeatedly this week, is the phrase "White People Problems." You know, the kind of stuff you complain about when the basics like food, water and shelter are covered-- bad cell service, delays at the airport, etc. etc. Nicole Holofcener's Please Give is a movie about White People Problems suffered by white people living in one of New York City's most beautiful neighborhood. But because it has great affection for its characters and goes in a few surprising directions, Please Give feels a lot more human and relateable than it might have, reflecting a few greater things about ...

Louis C.K. is one of the best stand-up comics working, cut from the same cloth as the greats of the profession like Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby, and he spent last year building an all-new set, then shooting it, and "Louis C.K.: Hilarious" is the result. It is indeed preposterously funny, so funny that my body simply gave out halfway through and I found myself completely unable to laugh anymore, the first time that's ever happened to me. Some were puzzled when Sundance accepted "Batman and Robin" director Joel Schumacher's latest film "Twelve." James Rocchi writes that the concern was justified. Here's an excerpt from his review, which can be found in full here:
Directed by Joel Schumacher ("Batman and Robin," "The Lost Boys"), "Twelve" is unquestionably the funniest film at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival; if only it had been made with that intention. "Twelve"'s ham-handed ineptitude...

On Wednesday the Sundance Film Festival unveiled the films competing in late January 2010. Yesterday they announced the rest of the line-up of independent films vying for attention for industry types and the curious public.
The entire list of 53 films is below, but here are a few that stood out to me from the premieres alone:
Mumblecore directors the Duplass Brothers, have a new, untitled movie starring an unusually high-profile cast compared to their usual improvisational crew. John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei, Jonah Hill, and Catherine Keener. Reilly and Keener are actually in two films at the 2010 festival.
The Company Men, starring Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Rosemarie DeWitt about corporate downsizing.
Rodrigo Cortes’ Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds as a man buried alive in a coffin. I’ve read the script and its great. More on that as soon as I can.

We are 49 days out and counting down to Sundance 2010. Yesterday, we unveiled the list of competition films for the upcoming festival. Today, we have your list of out-of-competition films which include Premieres, Spotlight, New Frontier, and, my personal favorite, Park City at Midnight, which has featured past entries like Black Dynamite, The Descent, and Saw.
Check out next year’s lineup for the out-of-competition films:
Premieres
To showcase the diversity to contemporary independent cinema, the Sundance Film Festival Premieres section offers the latest work from American and international directors as well as world premieres of highly anticipated films. Presented by Entertainment Weekly.
Abel / Mexico, USA (Director: Diego Luna; Screenwriters: Diego Luna and Agusto Mendoza)–A peculiar young boy, blurring reality and fantasy, assumes the responsibilities of a family man in his father’s absence. Cast: Jose Maria Yazpik, Karina Gidi, Carlos Aragon, Christopher Ruiz-Esparza, Gerardo Ruiz-Esparza. World Premiere

Yesterday we got the list for the films playing in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and today we get the rest of the films that will be featured and there are quite a few that make 2010 look much stronger based on pedigree alone than I have seen in quite some time. Variety has a big write-up detailing the categories and more on the festival right here, but I am just going to offer up the titles and let you sort it all out.
The titles already in the RopeofSilicon database are linked.
Premieres
All films are from the United States unless otherwise noted Abel (Mexico-u.S.), the directorial debut of actor Diego Luna, written by Luna and Agusto Mendoza, about a peculiar young boy who, as he blurs reality and fantasy, takes over the responsibilities of a family man in his father's absence. With Jose Maria Yazpik, Karina Gidi,...

In addition to the competition titles which were announced yesterday, Sundance has announced the remainder of their line-up and it includes some titles we’re already familiar with along with a huge number of premieres.
Also on the docket are two new series: Next which showcases low/no budget films and Spotlight which highlights films which festival programmers deem worthy of extra love including Enter the Void (review) and Lourdes (the trailer for which I really liked).
I’m particularly excited to see some of the titles in the New Frontier program but overall, the line-up is an impressive one but the Kristen Stewart fan in me is excited to see her turn as Joan Jett in The Runaways and I think it’s fair to say we’re all dying to see Vincenzo Natali’s hotly anticipated Splice (trailer).
In the Midnight section, Adam Green's Frozen is sounding mighty find,...

Sundance released their slate for 2010. It includes:43 documentaries on the Middle East12 films about friends who 'discover' something33 movies about people you've never heard about1 comedyHopefully the lineup this year is strong but it doesn't look that way compared to last year. Last year we had Push (Precious), that Lil Wayne documentary that never went anywhere, Mystery Team which might make my top ten, Moon, Mike Tyson documentary, Cold Souls. Just so much last January that was excellent. I hope I don't go out therer and freeze my tail off just to see...I don't know, a documentary about a former Pakistani prime minister or something silly like that. Here's the lineup so far: Premieres To showcase the diversity to contemporary independent cinema, the Sundance Film Festival Premieres section offers the latest work from American and international directors as well as world premieres of highly anticipated films. The Sundance Film Festival's competition lineup for 2010, announced Wednesday, might demand that audiences wear their serious caps. But the out-of-competition selections allow programmers and viewers to cut loose a little.
The 53 films that populate this year's Premieres, Next, Spotlight, Park City at Midnight and New Frontier sections run the gamut from the cosmically experimental to the star-studded and silly. There is indeed something for everyone at this year's event, which runs Jan. 21-31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
As usual, Premieres collects work involving the industry's higher-profile talent, none more so than John Wells' feature directorial debut, "The Company Men," which stars Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper. Mexican actor Diego Luna's directorial debut, "Abel," will screen, as will Philip Seymour Hoffman's "Jack Goes Boating."

Brilliant stand up comedian Louis C.K. is returning to the small screen. The funnyman, who starred in the short lived HBO sitcom Lucky Louie, will have a recurring role on NBC’s Parks and Recreation and will star in a new sitcom for FX. On Parks and Rec, the stand-up will portray a Pawnee police officer and potential love interest for the character played by star Amy Poehler. He will first appear in the second episode of Parks’ upcoming season and appear in several episodes thereafter. The FX project, tentatively titled Louie, is half-hour comedy based on his life as a comedian and divorced father of two. Stories are told through a mix of standup routines and sketches (in which he acts opposite actors playing his kids, ex-wife and friends). The pilot includes two stories: In one vignette, Louie must volunteer at his kids’ school, and things go horribly wrong...
