While Jan Pohan was director's first choice for the part of Mr. Dvorák, he also considered Vladimír Brabec and Jan Tríska for the case Pohan would turn down the role.
The whole film was shot in just 3 days.
Jan Komínek was originally cast as the young man who brings Mr Dvorák his lunch. At the last minute, he was unable to attend the filming, and so a day before filming the part was given to Filip Cíl. Other candidates were Jan Cina, David Voboril, Ladislav Ondrej and Ales Kubát.
The film's budget was reportedly only CZK 50 000 (roughly 2 500 USD at the time). Most of the budget was spent on equipment, costumes and other incidental expenses. Almost the entire crew and actors worked on the film for free, out of pure enthusiasm for the subject.
