Out of Breath was one of the first narrative features to shoot during the pandemic. Filming started in early September 2020.
Outdoor locations were shot entirely guerrilla around NYC. Due to the pandemic and BLM protests, NYC streets were nearly empty at the time of filming, devoid of tourists and cops turned a blind eye to Out of Breath's production.
Out of Breath is a loose riff on French New Wave films.
The screenplay was written with Mario C Brown in mind for the lead role of Jean-Michel.
Improvisation on set was encouraged.
