- Laura (Tori Anderson) is a Chicago marketing executive sent to oversee a small mid-west town cook-off and entice Jim (Corey Sevier), the local barbecue joint owner, to let her license his family's secret BBQ sauce. As two very different worlds collide, with a dash of trust and splash of mutual admiration, a new-found friendship slowly marinades into something much bolder and sweet.—Incendo
- A foodie at heart, Laura Glickman (Tori Anderson) is the Director of Marketing at the Chicago-based corporation Superior Sauces. Having stumbled upon it in it going viral, Laura is able to convince her boss Gary (Christian Paul), a "just get-it-done-at-any-cost" kind of guy, that Superior should sponsor a barbecue competition in the small town of Saint George, Missouri hosted by a local barbecue joint, J&P, which has made its renown on its barbecue sauce. While Laura believes the sponsorship will bring attention to their new artisan-styled barbecue sauce much like J&P's, Gary, in that sponsorship, has the main goal of Superior being the licensee for J&P's sauce to build off that already built-in hype. As such, Gary sends Laura to Saint George to oversee the competition while trying to convince J&P's owner, Jim Covell, Jr. (Corey Sevier), to go into that partnership for the sauce, Laura's much wanted promotion to VP contingent on she succeeding on the task with the sauce. Upon her arrival, Laura finds that the hype is not only real but well deserved, that the sponsorship will allow Jim to do some maintenance to aging J&P, but that Jim has no interest in partnering on the sauce in memory to his long-deceased mother, Pearl, the "P" in J&P, the restaurant which he also has refused to make any changes to since Pearl's death for the same reason. In being a family recipe that he tweaked when he took over from Jim, Sr. ten years ago, Jim holds the recipe close to his chest in not even his trusted staff knowing the recipe. Laura is however able to convince Jim that if she is able to discover the secret ingredient that makes his sauce so special that he will go into that partnership with Superior, his counter caveat being that she spend the week leading up to the competition learning all about what goes into making barbecue special. In spending time together, Laura and Jim start to fall for each other. Their burgeoning romance could be threatened if Laura places her promotion to VP as a priority over them which would probably mean she having betrayed him about the sauce.—Huggo
