The 80s had The General, the 90s had John Gilligan, and in the noughties, it was the reign of Martin Marlo Hyland. He ruled with an iron fist over gangland, working his way up the drug ladder with ferocious force, taking opportunities to step in when others fell by the wayside. Sam Esmail's brilliant drama-thriller is back with a vengeance.
Mr. Robot Season 2 Episode 1 was an immaculately directed, often shocking return to the dizzying world of Elliot Alderson. All in all, it was everything I hoped the second season premiere would be.
I'm wary about two-parters (so long) but in this instance, every minute was warranted. Given that the cast of characters had expanded so much by the close of the first season, it was smart to use the premiere to sort of "catch up" with nearly everyone, while still finding time to introduce new faces.
We first opened on the moment in which Elliot initiated the big, season-ending E Corp hack.
This was a cool choice, given that we didn't see this happen on screen back in Mr. Robot Season 1 – the hack took place sometime between the end of Mr. Robot Season 1 Episode 9 and the beginning of the Mr. Robot Season 1 Finale,...

Tara's death was swift and sudden in the True Blood season 7 premiere, but fans finally got to say a proper goodbye to Rutina Wesley's character on Sunday's episode of the HBO hit. While on a final V-induced vision, Tara's cousin Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), mother Lettie Mae (Adina Porter) and stepfather (Gregg Daniel) take a trip back in time to see Tara almost shoot her father with his own gun because he was being physically violent with her mother. Ultimately, Tara cannot bring herself to shoot her father and buries the gun in the backyard as he leaves his family for good.

"I'm not gonna forgive you. Only God forgives." Just in case the first trailer for the action thriller called The Prince didn't convince you that this was not going to be a good movie, a second trailer has arrived, showing a little more of the story. Jason Patric plays a former assassin and father who finds his daughter in danger when a rival assassin (Bruce Willis) kidnaps her in order to get back at him for some wrong done in the past. The only interesting aspect of the film is Willis as the bad guy, but he really seems to be phoning this one in. And again, we're not very sure what John Cusack is doing here, but whatever. Watch? Here's the new trailer for Brian A. Miller's The Prince from Collider: The Prince is directed by Brian A. Miller (The Outsider, Officer Down and Caught in the Crossfire) written...

The last time Bruce Willis teamed up with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson for a movie, it was the abysmal action thriller Set Up, and now it appears neither of them have learned their lesson, because they can be seen back together in The Prince. However, Bruce Willis isn't the good guy, and 50 Cent isn't one of the leads. Instead, it's Jason Patric who takes the role of a father who finds his daughter in danger when a rival assassin (Willis) kidnaps her in order to get back at him for some wrong done in the past. John Cusack is here for some reason too, and this just looks like it's destined for the bargain bin all over again. Here's the first trailer for Brian A. Miller's The Prince, originally from Yahoo: The Prince is directed by Brian A. Miller (The Outsider, Officer Down and Caught in the Crossfire) written by Jeremy Passmore...

Fans of previous seasons of Spartacus could always rely on the Starz show for a weekly evisceration or two, and no character seemed exempt from the possible chopping block (literally!) But, honestly, we always knew, episode to episode, that Spartacus would hang on, and a fair number of the good guys, at least, would hang on with him. Yes, last season we lost the lovely Mira (Katrina Law) and Oenomaus (Peter Mensah), but along the way we’ve picked up a few Germaniacs, a Gaul or two, a Syrian stud, a Greek priestess, a Numidian pirate, and a partridgius in a pear tree to more than make up for it. (I never realized it, but it seems like Spartacus’ army is sponsored by the united colors of Benetton.) Sure, Spartacus: Vengeance eliminated most of the villains, but we knew a good percentage of the heroes would usually stick around.

Subhash K Jha reviews Gangs of Wasseypur 2
If you try to count the numbers of bullets that are fired at unsuspecting victims in the ferociously violent world inhabited by Anurag Kashyap’s trigger-happy goons, you might end up cross-eyed. Caught in the crossfire of vendetta and redemption, the characters of “Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2″ are so on-the-edge, they don’t fear the abyss that awaits them at the end of their vengeful voyage.
In any case, no one in Kashyap’s god-forsaken kingdom takes cops seriously, not even the cops themselves. There’s a typically wry Kashyap joke just before interval when the raging protagonist Faizal (or ‘Faijal’, as everyone including his sexy wife calls him), carries his kid-brother’s corpse home. Cops stop Faizal and politely ask him to accompany them to the police station.Read More...

If you’ve never heard of Oak Street Films or Zero Gravity, it’s okay — they haven’t been around Hollywood for all that long. To continue their collaboration, Variety reports that the production companies are joining forces for the indie drama The Outsider, which will star Craig Fairbrass and be directed by Brian A. Miller.
The latter got his directing start back in 2010 with the crime picture Caught in the Crossfire, which stars Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and then collaborated with Fairbrass on his sophomore effort, House of the Rising Run. When it comes to The Outsider we can expect a story that follows “a British military contractor who is told his daughter has died” — but, “[w]hen he discovers the body is not hers, he begins an investigation.”

As the star of two of the most successful film franchises of the ‘80s, Harrison Ford was the obvious choice to take on the role of Jack Ryan for director Phillip Noyce’s Patriot Games, released on Blu-ray last week. Following on from Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of the character in The Hunt For Red October, where Ryan was very much a supporting role to Sean Connery’s Russian submarine captain, producers required a more bankable star to fill Ryan’s boots for a story focussing more on Ryan and his family as he takes on a terrorist splinter group.
Based on Tom Clancy’s international best-seller, Patriot Games follows former CIA analyst Jack Ryan as he travels to London for a vacation with his wife (Anne Archer, Fatal Attraction) and child (Thora Birch, American Beauty). Meeting his family outside Buckingham Palace, Ryan is caught in the middle of a...

Robert DeNiro, who is still one of the utmost actors, but unfortunately just cashing another paycheque in Limitless role, has just signed up for his second 50 Cent movie named Freelancers.
Deadline reports that the superstar, once known for such a films like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, will star in Freelancers, the first flick since Righteous Kill that will see him performing opposite G-Unit’s most famous member.
Forest Whitaker (Bird, Ghost Dog) is also in talks to join the movie, which is developed by 50 Cent’s production company Cheetah Vision, co-founded by Fiddy and Randall Emmett.
Up to now Cheetah Vision has mostly produced in abundant and automatic manner straight-to-video pieces of poor quality like Before I Self Destruct, Caught in the Crossfire and Gun as well as Setup, starring Bruce Willis that will be released theatrically later this year.

I came across an interesting story the other day on Blastr, the blogtastic shell of what was once SciFi Wire, featuring some concept art from .Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.. The first glimpse . with heavy emphasis on the word .glimpse. . of the .Battlestar Galactica. prequel series has instantly sparked debate and speculation on the creative directions that the series will take. Caught in the crossfire of the discussions are .Caprica. and .Stargate: Universe,. both of which were recently (and unjustly) canceled by Syfy. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will start shooting Lives of the Saints, directed by Chris Rossi from his own script, next month alongside Meg Ryan and John Lithgow.
50 Cent is expanding his acting resume and he is pretty busy as actor lately.
Since making his big screen debut in 2005’s Get Rich or Die Tryin, 50 had a role in the football drama Things Fall Apart, and recently starred in a film based on his own screenplay, The Gun.
He also stared in Twelve, in which he plays a drug dealer and Caught in the Crossfire.
The rapper also had a role in 2008’s Righteous Kill opposite Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
Now, he has a new chance to star alongside Hollywood veterans in Lives of the Saints.
The drama “tells the intertwining stories of a group of Angelenos seeking redemption for past mistakes, only to find that forgiveness comes from unlikely places.

You wouldn't necessarily know it unless you pay close attention to casting news, but 50 Cent has been keeping pretty busy as an actor lately. The shocking photo of him that made the rounds on the Internet a few months ago was the result of weight loss for a role in the football drama Things Fall Apart, and he recently starred in a film based on his own screenplay, The Gun. Unfortunately his movies that have actually hit theaters haven't made much of an impact-- Twelve, in which he plays a drug dealer, was an instantly legendary flop over the summer, and Caught in the Crossfire was more notable for Internet memes like this one than its actual quality. 50 Cent, though, is undaunted, and has teamed up with another list of unlikely co-stars for his next film, Lives of the Saints. According to Variety he'll be joined by Meg Ryan, John...

Since it was announced that Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson had launched his own film company, Cheetah Vision, we’ve been casually watching to see what kind of work this new venture would yield. The first title under the Cheetah Vision (CV) banner was something called Before I Self Destruct, which was included in his last album release (didn’t catch that). This, I believe is the second CV feature project – the recently-released crime drama titled Caught In The Crossfire, which stars Chris Klein, Adam Rodriguez, and Fiddy himself (albeit in a smaller role than I expected, although somewhat pivotal) – a film I screened last night.

The last time I saw Chris Klein in a movie, he was playing Nash, the super tough no nonsense cop in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Chris brought such emotional depth to his character I had to capture his essence in a feature called El Guapo Stares At The Many Faces Of Street Fighter's Chris Klein. It was one of my more popular articles, with readers begging for a followup. But Chris was nowhere to be found.Until now.Just released on DVD and Blu-Ray, Caught in the Crossfire stars Chris Klein once again playing a super tough no nonsense cop. As the hardened veteran Briggs, he and his partner Shepherd (Adam Rodriguez) have to uncover a series of murders that could involve some crooked cops. Caught takes place just over a day, which is why everyone is wearing only one outfit. Saves on costuming costs I suppose.

Chicago – “Caught in the Crossfire,” directed by Brian A Miller, is a gritty, essential cop drama about urban gang warfare, law enforcement corruption and police informants. It includes breakout roles for Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and the usual comedic Chris Klein, and features a standout performance by Adam Rodriguez of “CSI Miami.”
The focus of the film is an internal investigation regarding police partners Briggs (Chris Klein) and Shepard (Adam Rodriguez). While following-up on some mysterious deaths in gang territory, the two plainclothes officers get involved in a shoot-out, where weapons are discharged mysteriously from different points (crossfire) at the crime scene. The rest of the story is told in flashbacks, involving a prime informant name Tino (50 Cent) and a slimy trail of corruption and violence.
Director Brian Miller – who also wrote the screenplay and has a role in the film – will be introducing Caught in the Crossfire and making an appearance next Tuesday,...

Put your wallets away folks, it's another slow week for new releases on DVD and Blu-ray. With the exception of Noah Baumbach's Greenberg starring Ben Stiller, which is one of the better movies of the year thus far, there isn't much out there worth spending your money on. Atom Egoyan's Chloe hits stores today, along with The Greatest starring Carey Mulligan and Pierce Brosnan, and The Bounty Hunter starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler. Also, in the non-fiction department we have 8: The Mormon Proposition and the John Hughes doc Don't You Forget About Me. Other than that, you can revisit Christopher Nolan's Insomnia on Blu-ray... and that's about it. Do you see anything worth buying or renting this week? The Bounty Hunter [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) Greenberg [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Chloe [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) The Greatest [7] (+ Blu-ray [8]) Saint John of Las Vegas [9] Our Family Wedding [10] (+ Blu-ray [11]) How to Make Love to a Woman...

Insomnia I just posted my review of this Blu-ray and while this isn't exactly a personal favorite, fans of this film will particularly enjoy this release. The film looks and sounds great and it comes with a solid group of special features, especially Chris Nolan's commentary, presented in the order he shot the film. You can read my full review right here. Universal Catalog Blu-ray
Alpha Dog / Assault on Precinct 13 / In Bruges This is a decent trio of films although I have no real desire to watch Alpha Dog again and Assault on Precinct 13, while fun, could be replaced by just about any other action thriller you may already have in your collection. But, In Bruges, if you don't already own this one now is the time to pick it up. It's a great film and a ton of fun.

“They’ll spend a $120 million on a film or a whole bunch of money making a film and then a whole bunch of money promoting it a year before it actually comes out and the money they get back in theaters is just the money they spent… And then it goes straight-to-dvd and everything is profit there. Some of the movies I’ve done recently, I was financing and I’ve already seen a 60 percent return on what I’ve [been] involved with. They don’t understand, they’re looking at it and going, ‘Well, it went straight-to-dvd,’ and they don’t realize I’m gonna get another $800,000 off each one of these projects. You can sit there and say ‘It went straight-to-dvd’… my ass… They’ll try to figure a way to discredit whatever you do because I come from that. I have a lot, so I’m conditioned to...

London – All eyes will be on the performance of a trio of movies picked up for U.K. and Irish distribution by indie Metrodome.
The British distributor, listed here on the Aim stock exchange, sealed deals for the $25 million budgeted earthquake thriller "Aftershock," Dominik Moll's Vincent Cassell starrer "The Monk" and "My Best Enemy," starring Moritz Bleibtreu.
In announcing the deals, the company made a point of highlighting the fact it has taken all rights that include plans for theatrical rollouts for all three.
The company's pledge to both the stock market and the industry at large to unspool the trio of movies in theaters comes just weeks after it revamped its structure and strategy.
Following the departure in April of Metrodome CEO Peter Urie who exited to pursue personal producer ambitions and the departure of theatrical distribution general manager Sara Frain, the company said it would be significantly...
