Many decades, about a decade before pioneering documentarist Jean Painlevé made this short film, I worked on the light show at the Fillmore East. We did those colored lights that turned on and off in time to the music. Although this work has a much more scientific purpose -- it shows the creation and building of crystalline forms -- what we did ten years earlier looks a lot like this.
Given that most of our audience was stoned out of their minds, drunk out of their minds or looking to find a sexual partner for the evening -- often all three -- I do not, looking back, have a terribly high opinion of our light show, which was done without much artistry -- I think I can say that, because I was doing a good part of it. Therefore I cannot have a high opinion of similar work done ten years later, as much as I admire much of Painlevé 's work. A rare dud,
