The project was first developed as a short film in 2002. Several drafts were written but never produced until, in early 2005, it began expanding into a feature and picked up steam. The only concept to survive all incarnations is the 'Aspiring Screenwriter's Society'.

Every character in the movie is based on someone Matt Ryan met or knew while attending college.

The full lyrics to the Incubus song "Nowhere Fast" are scattered throughout the movie as dialogue.

Being that the boom microphone is an actual character in the movie, a professional boom pole had to be rented for the shooting days during which the microphone would appear on screen. All other days of production, it was simply fastened to a broomstick to save money.
