Streamer Julien Bam und Joon Kim sind die Hosts und Kommentatoren der ersten Escape-Room-Comedy-Show Deutschlands. „The Way Out“ entsteht exklusiv für Prime Video und Amazon Freevee und soll ab Frühjahr 2025 verfügbar sein, für Prime-Video-Abonnenten im Dach-Raum sowie bei Freevee in Deutschland und Österreich. „The Way Out“ umfasst zunächst vier Episoden, in denen zwei Teams – Team Content Creators und Team Comedians – gegeneinander antreten, um als Erste aus aufwendig gestalteten Abenteuerräumen zu entkommen. Exclusive: Critical Content is looking to the international market for its next move.

Jenny Daly’s entertainment production company has struck deals with ITV Studios France and Belgium’s Be-Entertainment as part of a new global growth strategy. It expects to sign a tranche more deals soon.

A first-look production deal has been struck with ITV Studios France, which is run by formats business veteran Thierry Lachkar, and a first-look distribution agreement is in place with Be-Entertainment for formats landing on Dpg Media Channels. Be-Entertainment sells the format behind upcoming NBC reality series Destination X to the international market.

Critical will look to use ITV Studios France and Be-Entertainment’s local relationship to forge new formats. Critical’s past credits include Catfish, Celebrity Game Face and Reese Witherspoon’s Get Organized with the Home Edit.

Not only will sci-fi/Monsterverse fans get another season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apple TV+ has announced multiple Monarch spinoffs are in the works. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has officially been renewed for season two, but doesn’t yet have a targeted premiere date.

Apple TV+’s announcement did not provide details on the number of spinoffs or plots.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star Anna Sawai has top billing on Apple TV+’s MonsterVerse spinoff series that also includes Kurt and Wyatt Russell. Her starring role is bookended by lead roles on the streamer’s critically acclaimed drama series, Pachinko, and FX/Hulu’s highly anticipated miniseries, Shōgun. Oddly enough, despite Shōgun’s February 2024 release date, Sawai shot Shōgun in Vancouver before Monarch’s own Vancouver shoot, and within 24 hours of wrapping Shōgun, she was already recreating Godzilla’s Golden Gate Bridge sequence from Gareth Edwards’ MonsterVerse starter, Godzilla (2014).

Produced by Rashida Jones, the show follows Nella Rogers (Sinclair Daniel) as she battles microaggressions and the isolation of being the only Black girl at Wagner Books. That is until the publishing house hires Hazel May McCall (Ashleigh Murray). At first, Nella is overjoyed, but she starts to realize that though they share skin color and culture, the two girls could not be more different.

Il Boemo, a biopic on 18th-century composer Josef Myslivecek, from director Petr Václav (The Way Out) took the top prize, for best Czech Film, at the 2023 Czech Lions awards.

The period drama, about the forgotten composer, was a frontrunner going into the Lions, as the Czech Republic’s official Oscar contender (it wasn’t nominated). In the end, Il Boemo won six Czech Lions, including best director for Vaclav and honors for best set design, costumes and makeup. Accepting the best film trophy, Il Boemo producer Jan Macola, thanked writer-director Václav for spending 12 years working on the project.

Il Boemo premiered in competition at the 70th San Sebastian film festival last year.

Michal Kern took best actor honors for his performance in Arved, another period biopic about a forgotten figure from Czech history, from director Vojtech Masek. In the drama, Kern plays Jiri Arved Smichovsky, a Czech occultist and Nazi collaborator.

The award-winning Czech director Petr Václav (“The Way Out”) has created a sumptuous period piece, rich in costume and the sounds of live music recorded for the film by the Czech ensemble Collegium 1704. Not to mention performances by real-life opera stars.

Exclusive: Sean Ryan Fox (Henry Danger) and Catherine Daddario (Oak) will lead the cast of the indie high school drama The Midway Point, marking the feature directorial debut of writer-director Lucca Vieira, which has wrapped production in Los Angeles. Others in the ensemble include 2019 Honorary Academy Award winner Wes Studi (The Last of the Mohicans), Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Thora Birch (Ghost World) and Julie Benz (Dexter).

The coming-of-age film said to be in the vein of Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade follows the introverted and highly creative high school senior Jake (Fox) as he experiences his first love with Alice (Daddario), a brash and outgoing classmate. As the two open up to one another, the seemingly opposite pair find they have more in common than meets the eye. Studi plays Jake’s teacher, with Birch as his mother, and Benz as the school’s guidance counselor who helps him with his social anxieties.
