First, lets talk production technical qualities - Sound, Vision, Direction, Editing, Lighting - ALL are excellent, making the episodes easy to watch and listen to, no eye strain or ear strain.
The Story Telling aspect of the Direction, the weaving of documentary with just enough dramatic tension, again, excellent.
From the outside looking in, the view of someone raised outside of the US, this appears to be a well balanced and well presented 'year in the life of', for a person under a great deal of strain, being pulled in many directions by personal history, national history, sporting history, and then current turbulent politics.
For this fan of international motorsport, Bubba Wallace Jr will be added to the list of drivers wanting the best for, even if just because he's inspiring people to chase their dreams.

As an European I was interested in a Nascar docu. This documentary is so much more... a bit too much for my taste.
The non chronological set-up makes it at times difficult to follow. Then you have all the things that are repeated again and again and again and... 3, max 4 episodes would have been sufficiant. If that was the case and they would repeat less stuff I would give it a 9.
But hey, Bubba seems a fine man. I wish he would have gotten a better documentary.

First off the series was well done and organized. I learned a lot of things I did not know. Secondly seeing all the 1star ratings show the importance of documentaries like this.

It's all about balance... Race and "race" both deserve a place but when does overemphasizing one or ignoring the other become a problem? I believe a fair equilibrium was achieved in several episodes, not in others.
This mini series describes a sport, a person, a company and a family in a context larger than Race and "race". That was never going to be easy. A brave attempt with a fair result.
If it's pure racing you're interested in, this may not be for you. If you can handle a wider context, if you can access both sides of your brain, this may be of interest.
Whatever the case may be... be ware if all the left turns...

The ole' boys holding on to this sport like they are their so called "heritage." Great look into a man doing something he loves and has it has made a fan of me. Keep it up bruh.
Much love from the family.

Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace provide an intricate look into the challenges of managing and figure heading a brand new race team in this docuseries, which focuses on Bubba Wallace's challenges to move through the ranks as a black driver in a predominantly southern, white sport.
Wallace's experiences are both captivating and, at times, gut wrenching, specifically when following his journey as an activist during the summer of 2020, and will compel many fans to a new respect for Wallace and his counterparts, while likely also inspiring further hate from opponents of civil rights.
This docuseries gets a 10 for its ability to inspire productive conversation and fascinate with an inside look in North Americas most popular Motorsport.

The first episode is great, I had a good time and it was very interesting. After that even the show looses the plot. It's repeating scenes to stretch out the time and in the end I've watched 5 hours of nothing.
Jack Nicholson's famous phrase from a Few Good Men comes to mind. NASCAR admitted, themselves, the sport began as bootlegging. There are many PROLIFIC reminders, this tv series had to be made.

Absolutely terrible! Politically driven documentary.... So much potential but it's awful. If your into motorsports then it's not for you...! It's a political documentary which is just terrible.

All the racing events covered in this Docu-series are events I watched live, and yet this documentary still had my heart racing despite the fact that I knew the outcome. Netflix knows how to build the intensity in sports like this. Hats off to NASCAR and Netflix and I definitely hope it leads to more in the future.

Really interesting insight of what happend during that time period. I'm european and a huge f1 and motogp fan. Not really into nascar. But i stumbled upon this and decide it to give it a go.
After watching it i can only say: its clearly a story that needs to be told.
Some people say its to much to the left. But hey it's nascar they always go left ;)

Netflix has a great series called F1-DRIVE TO SURVIVE. I like it a lot, very interesting, beautifully filmed, new season next week, can't wait! I love the sport of racing. I use to race motorcycles. When I was a kid I thought I'd be a champ at moto-cross. Then, when I got into my teens, I met the kids who had the real talent.
One of the things about racing cars that you draw from F1 is how dangerous it can be. Sure, you've got a crew behind you & all that research & money & what not, but you still gotta drive a car 200 plus miles an hour & maybe die. NASCAR is no different than F1.
That's the brutal reality of motorsports. To receive Top-Drawer fame status in NASCAR you really have to risk your life & have talent.
Except now, it seems there are other ways to achieve Top-Drawer fame.
Richard Petty once implied in a statement that if Danica Patrick was a male driver in NASCAR that nobody would even know her name, and he was correct. Sure, Patrick has the guts to climb behind the wheel and race, but she's not as great as the other drivers. She's rich & famous because she's a woman participating in a sport traditionally dominated by men. Simple fact. She has achieved top draw fame.
Bubba Wallace does NOT have a great record in NASCAR. Still, he does climb behind the wheel & takes the ultimate risk but he's not as great as the other drivers. Simple fact. He's sure got Top-Draw fame now tho.
I'll say that the real villains of this doc are the black FBI agent that ran this ridiculous investigation & the white NASCAR exec who still assert that this was some hate crime & to hell with the evidence. They're scum.
2 stars for the great racing footage. It appears that others are more impressed.

As a white man who lives in the UK you can see from all the 1 star bombers that racism is still hot with the American brand. What was once thought of as a great country, has always been based on the blood of its victims.
A great show, very moving and Bubba is a champ. I'm so glad black people are finally getting a chance to prove how awesome they are.

A lot w quality documentary where so little happen that they switch back and forth between the years to create something. This was another low quality, race bating, divisive "documentary". Hey Netflix, I don't pay you a subscription to deliver that.

Being a die hard Nascar fan and a millennial, I was very extremely excited to watch a Nascar show similar to Drive to Survive. I watched the first three episodes of the season then quit watching because it's just another social justice documentary. I'm actually a fan of Bubba, but following one mid-pack driver and making 80% of the episode about skin color just isn't entertaining. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the small amount of racing, on and off the track, they cover is good quality. Other than that it just feels like a regurgitation of every social justice media network. Netflix, please give race fans a show about RACING.
