For a goofy set of comedic spoofs on gay life, there's a surprising amount of nuanced reality allowing for keen observations on the human condition. The string of camp clichés reveals some deeper points about coming out late as well as being young and out. A generation gap story provides the basis for tender insights. Can't wait for the second season which is set up nicely by unfinished story lines in the last episode of S1. It's a succinct, quick watch where economy of story and plot packs in a surprising amount. I salute the writing of such content within our modern attention span, without lacking meaning. This is a surprising package of romp and belly laugh, and for me, a few teary bits.... But I'm a sad old Queen ...
This series is hilarious! I laughed so hard that my teenage so. Came out of his bedroom and stared at me. I binge watched the first season in one night! The episodes are less than fifteen minutes each so it is very easy to get caught up in the storylines. I can not wait for season two to be released!
The casting is spot on! Watching the grandparents trying is find themselves is comedic. The horrific looks of their grandchildren's faces at times is sidesplitting.
There are so many potential storylines for season two that I can not wait to see unfurl.
I highly recommend this show to anyone who has an open mind and a great sense of humor.

My partner and I are a lesbian couple in our 50's we were both in heterosexual relationships for 20 plus years and recently came out late in life. We absolutely love this series. I have two gay children and she has one. There is so much to learn and identify with in this show! Please make a second season. The humor and candor in this show are so refreshing. The Grand children's wisdom and the grand parent naivete are so heart warming and identifiable. The education with terminology and the family bond are so heartwarming and encouraging. I can't believe ait to see what happens next. Love love love this show. It ended too soon.
Right from Episode 1 (S1E1), you know you are in for a treat. Brother and sister, both gay, welcome their grandparents to town. See the description of this series to learn the rest of the premise.
In a wasteland of shows without original ideas and stories, Stories from My Gay Grandparents has such fertile ground for story and character development and possibilities. The Season 1 episodes are less than 15 minutes each, yet the short format is very efficient, tight, and well thought-out for a short comedy.
Although there are moments where the writers need to make sure that characters do not become cartoonish or drop into stereotypes, I will be eager to see more episodes when they drop.
The writing and acting is fast-paced but not overly fast. I feel like there can be more pauses for more serious moments of character development, and there are. But a few more moments like that would not hurt (think David's character development in Schitt's Creek").
Give it at least two episodes to see what you think. Take two, they're small!

I just binged all 10 episodes in two sittings. SO funny and so refreshing to see an LGBTQ+ tv show that is real and relatable, not stylised and artificial. The characters and subplots are authentic - it really feels like this show has been made in the LGBTQ+ community, more than any other that I've watched. Great acting and storylines that had me laughing and crying in every episode. It's testament to the writing, production and acting that I feel so attached to these characters even though the episodes are so short. I could easily have watched 10 x 60 min episodes and still be wanting more. I will be sharing it widely among my friends - the community and allies too. Really hope there's a second season and more!!

Watched the first episode and was hooked! Great storyline great acting and just an amazing show! I soooo hope for a second season I'm an older gay man and loved watching the grandparents discover their groove! Can't wait for more. I would love to come to Toronto and be an extra! I have told all of my friends to watch and they are hooked as well. I love that it is filmed on location and not in a studio. I hope in the next season the episodes can be a little longer. Even though the episodes are short it still contains so much content that they actually feel longer! Great job on creating and directing this fresh new series.

What a fantastic show. Perfect cast with each character three dimensional. Great drama (albeit nuanced and subtle at times) acting, and great comic acting. Plus the stories were hilarious, camp and honest in perfect ratios. It addresses some very real issues in a very funny way. What a great gift to GLTBQI community. I loved it so much I wanted it to keep going so I binged it from the beginning a second time. The getting ready for the beach segment, and the reaction of those watching had me rolling! Bring on the next season. It definitely deserves a wide audience and to keep making seasons. Brilliant!
I'm so excited to leave a review about this show. First, I'd love to say that I appreciate the entire cast for their showcasing their talent around a much NEEDED topic. I wish our community honored our elders as much as the youth is adorned. With that being said, I felt elated after watching the entire season (in a few hours, actually lol)
The comedic timing, the topics of loss, love, ambiguity, unspoken expression, and how authenticity is always transferred and evolved and not lost.
The look back in history, the sacrifices put forth for life's evolution, the acceptance of wisdom from the both younger and older people. This is like a modern day gospel, to me.
I'm ecstatic about the second season. The cliff hanger is hilariously inviting. I've enjoyed every episode I've seen and a very pleased viewer. I'm proud to be apart of a community that displays itself in this way.

In this series we are introduced to Barbara and Rusty, a seemingly normal married couple from a very conservative small town in Canada. After an unfortunate accident, they decide to move to Toronto and share an apartment with their gay grandchildren, Mish, (not sure on spelling), and Mason. They bring with them the revelation that they have been each other's "beard" for many years but are now ready to be who they were born to be. Watching Barbara and Rusty struggle to say the words at first is something I think many of us can relate to. You would think that they would be at the "We don't care what anyone thinks about us" phase in their lives but letting go of a former identity is never easy. Mish and Mason must get used to life with their grandparents living on top of them while Barbara and Rusty must get used to not only living their new lives, but getting used to not being dependent upon each other as they once were. The other main character, Church Street in Toronto, serves as a foundation for these lives. Mish owns a nightclub there. Barbara's first love worked there. Rusty and Barbara are finding their true selves there.
I really hope season two comes along and that it will still be available to view in the States. It has much promise and potential for true growth.

I often find myself yawning or cringing at the big streaming shows' writing, so it is with such relief and joy to encounter these hidden indie gems made with such love, professionalism, and overall, passion. I binged this in one afternoon, finding fascinating how the short episodes made me feel so many emotions. This is made by queer people, for queer people, and it brings me so much happiness. Honoring our queer elder's stories is crucial and this show handles it with care and humor! The acting was great too! I'm so excited for a season two, and also hoping the internet lesbians find this so it can become viral.

This show was so funny, cute, emotional, loving....it was brilliantly written.
The actors were perfection. The casting impeccable.
Honestly it is a testament to loving people as they are and embracing their uniqueness.
The series was both quirky and informative. Embracing important history and navigating difficult conversations with loved ones all in a wonderful way.
I cannot wait for a second season.
Absolutely magical from beginning to end. <3.
I wish the episodes were longer because I loved this so much and there just needed to be more of it. I want to share it with everyone I know because it was stellar!

I 35f found this by accident on YouTube and was immediately hooked. My hubby 45m said he didn't want to watch it but I caught him standing surreptitiously in the corner and watching the whole thing. I laughed aloud, once even so hard that I cried. The script and delivery are ~flawless~.
The characters were charming, alternating between hilarious and endearing. Like most of the free world, we Love Our Barbara here in this household. It's a delicate balance to hold real emotions and concerns tightly within the croissant rolls of humor.
It sticks to a variety of interior shots mostly; however they still manage to somewhat convey the setting of the Village. Building a sense of presence and community is an opportunity for improvement, but it did get the job done.

My only complaint is that there is not already a second season!
What I love best, besides the humour, is watching these seasonned humans learn to embrace who they are in every aspect of what it entails as there is no age to (re)discover yourself, learn, grow, love yourself, fall in love, be happy, accept others for who they are, open your heart to the beauty of differences.
The family dynamics are just awsome : unconditionnal frienship, love, support, honesty and unveiled emotions. The generationnal gap is wisely used, yes for comedic reasons, but also to address historic diffenrences.
What a cute, fun, well thought and inspiring show!

I found it (either on Instagram or Pinterest, I don't even remember and it was like two hours ago) and immediately watched all of it. Was crying by episode two (I usually don't care about the characters enough to cry after 20 minutes of watching something) and laughing all throughout the 10 episodes. The grandparents are so funny and so cute. I love the entire premise of this, the grandchildren showing them the gay life 👌
I need season 2 to happen so bad!
The acting and production were also so damn good! I've not watched a ton of webseries but from the ones I have watched this is definitely the best and most professional looking I've seen.
10/10 recommend, must watch now!

This is an absolute gem of a series, it's funny as hell, heartfelt and the characters you can't help but fall in love with and root for, stop what your doing and get onto episode one immediately, you won't be disappointed, I said ok let's see what this is all about and I didn't move until all episodes have been watched, it's just grabs you by the balls and draws you in instantly and I'm so glad it did, I've practically harassed all of my friends into watching it (they also loved it) the writers are clearly talented in what they have done here and I think this would be great as a movie plot idea, either way I really hope for a season 2 as I wanna see what they get up to next.

A Hilarious and Thought-Provoking Show. Stories from My Gay Grandparents is an absolute gem! The show made me laugh non-stop one minute and getting lost in thought the next. It's amazing how it takes you on a journey through time, making you reflect on our community's past and present. And it even has you wondering about the future and how things might change for our generation. It's a breath of fresh air.
The cast is fantastic, and I love every actor. Each character is so unique and lovable. The show is full of heart, humor, and genuine emotion. I really hope there's a season two.
If you reach this, thanks for reading!

Do not walk I repeat do not walk run and watch this show. This is one of the funniest and wonderfully written series out there . The cast is amazing , the storyline is gonna have you laughing from episode one to the last. Behind all the laughs theirs a beautiful story of family bonding and support . No you don't have to be part of the lgbtq community to enjoy this show and that's the beauty of it , the stories behind each character can be anyone of us going through the same life hurdles but in our own little environment. Do yourself a favor and seat and enjoy this wonderful series .Everyone needs to watch it.
This show caught me completely by surprise and delighted within the first minutes. Fabulously funny and firing on all cylinders, it's a classic tale of Grandma and Grandpa finally coming out after being one another's beards for 50 years. A tale as old as....well...
This all thanks to creators Scott Farley and Perrie Voss who deserve major recognition for bringing such an absurd yet relatable story to life with such finesse.
The diverse group of characters easily maneuver from moments of infectious humour to heartwarming sincerity through fantastic writing and some very skillful acting. With a built-in familiarity, these folks remind us that we're all going through continuous self-discovery despite our age.
Strong performances all around, but extra points go to Jane Moffat for her vulnerable portrayal of Barbie - just wow. She tossed me around from laughter to teary eyes and back again in the span of 3 minutes and I just want to give her a great big hug. Also who can resist Farley's continuously hilarious reactions and Perrie's banana-suit meltdown!
Bravo to everyone involved!

I thought this would just be a fun guilty pleasure, but it wound up being so much more. The characters are fun, charming, quirky and entertaining.
The plot is far more moving and poignant then I had ever expected.
The relationship with grandma and grandpa was so sweet. Best friends in a time where they were not allowed to be their true selves. The message of family, change, and self acceptance was really beautiful.
The super campy costumes and outfits as they stumble through finding their way to be gay was priceless.
I'm still absolutely cracking up about the dodgeball scene.
I loved it. I really hope it gets another season.
