What's Up Lovely presents a compelling portrait of a woman coming to grips with loss, and insomnia, in the dead of night. Jenn Dees demands attention, and the film would not have had the impact it did without a performance as gripping and authentic as she delivered. What's Up Lovely is a one woman show, and as such, she was the right woman for the role. Gary's direction made wonderful use of New York. A city that seemingly never sleeps appeared to be nearly uninhabited, with the exception of the unusual stranger in the story. The hauntingly beautiful score worked to further enhance the tone of the film. Gary has created a unique visual experience that is a treat to watch, and warrants additional viewings.
