Nick Frost steps into uncharted territory with his recent role, transforming from his signature comedic charm to a deeply unsettling presence in Black Cab, a psychological horror arriving on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital on 7 April 2025. The Shudder Original, directed by Bruce Goodison, delivers a relentless ride into terror, blending abduction horror with ghostly apparitions and psychological torment.
Frost, best known for his work in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Attack the Block, plays Ian, a seemingly unassuming cab driver with a sinister agenda. Alongside him, Synnøve Karlsen delivers a gripping performance as Anne, a woman trapped in a nightmare, while Luke Norris (Poldark) plays her controlling fiancé, whose presence only adds to the mounting tension.
What starts as an awkward date takes a horrifying turn when Anne and her fiancé unknowingly step into the wrong taxi. What should have been a simple ride home descends into a brutal...

John Boyega wishes that Daniel Craig would have stayed on as James Bond. The 'Queer' actor bowed out as 007 after five films in 2021's 'No Time to Die' but Boyega would've been pleased to see him continue playing the spy rather than have the current uncertainty that exists around the franchise. The 'Star Wars' actor told Metro: "I still think Daniel should have done at least two more. I'm not mad at an older Bond. (If) you go so young. I'm like, 'Isn't that a rebrand of the whole franchise?' I wonder how they would creatively do that."John admits that it is impossible to "fathom" what it would be like to be Bond unless he was given the chance to don the character's famous tuxedo. The 32-year-old star said: "You can only really answer that question when the opportunity actually lands in your lap and could work.

New Year’s Eve felt a bit different in 1999. Not simply because it was a different time but because of the pesky “year 2000 problem” that’s more commonly referred to as Y2K. The world anticipated global computer system failures that would cause the shutdown of technology everywhere, including power. It created a widespread panic that entailed people prepping for an actual apocalypse. Except, once the clock struck midnight, nothing happened. The computers adjusted just fine, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and the world moved on in a blink.
Y2K director/co-writer Kyle Mooney and co-writer Evan Winter imagine what could’ve happened had the Y2K bug actually triggered catastrophe, marrying an apocalyptic horror movie with a raucously entertaining teen comedy.
Mooney, a millennial making his directorial feature debut with Y2K, remembers that specific point in time well. He recalls, “I mean, it was just such a disappointment.

Netflix’s fifth and final original Christmas movie for 2024 is now streaming, and this one is animated. But you’re still going to recognize a whole lot of the cast.
Written and directed by Richard Curtis, who brought fans “Love, Actually,” the film centers on a group of people in a small town in the UK, getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Like “Love, Actually,” the story is told via vignettes, jumping around between different groups and pairings.
And as you meet those groups and pairings, you’re definitely going to recognize some of those voices. Here’s who we have.

The big man himself is voiced by Brian Cox, who you likely know from his time on “Succession,” or films including “X2: X-Men United,” “Troy,” “Red,” “Zodiac” and “Trick ‘r Treat,” among many others.

History dictates that any space adventure set in a galaxy far, far away needs to have its compulsory comedic robot to join in on the action. In the case of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," that duty falls to burley, one-eyed mechanoid, Sm-33. Lurching his way through every episode and battering any villain that dares cross the show's heroes and their captain, Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), some keen-eared viewers might've already realized who is responsible for the raspy voice ringing through the wires of this hulking bot. Indeed, Disney and Lucasfilm turned to Nick Frost, the co-star of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, to help bring this thuggish, grouchy companion to life.
Frost's breakout role came in the cult series "Spaced" alongside Simon Pegg, before the two and the show's director, Edgar Wright, forever changed horror-comedies with 2003's "Shaun of the Dead." Wright, Pegg, and Frost would later reunite for the...

After often showcasing his skills in the world of comedy, Nick Frost is tapping into a new side of performing with Black Cab. Frost is best known for his work co-leading the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy with Simon Pegg, while also finding success with everything from 2011's Attack the Block to his and Pegg's sci-fi comedy Paul, AMC's Into the Badlands and Fighting with My Family. Beyond straightforward comedy, Frost has also starred in more horror-driven fare, including Slaughterhouse Rulez and Truth Seekers, the latter of which he co-created with Pegg.

The Lego franchise will begin making live-action movies, and I think that idea is an awful mistake. Lego is mostly known for its plastic brick toys and miniature figures, but the company began making high-budget animated movies and shows with 2014's aptly-named The Lego Movie. Since the success of The Lego Movie, which earned $468 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), the franchise has made several more Lego movies, including a sequel, a pair of Lego Batman films, a movie about Ninjago, and more. Even though the Lego franchise has expanded its subject matter, one thing has stayed the same: its animation.
Now, however, there are three live-action Lego movies in the works. There are currently very few details about the films, and not even their titles are public knowledge yet. However, three directors have been attached to the movies: Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman...

Lego has proven it can deliver when it comes to animated fare, but what about live-action? Deadline reports that The Lego Group is developing three live-action movies with Universal Pictures and has tapped some major directors to help. Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) will each direct a Lego movie.
As for the plot of these three movies, they’re under wraps, but I’ll admit that I’m intrigued by what Lego has planned for these live-action projects. Jenkins will direct her project, which she also co-wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns and will produce through her Wicious Pictures banner. As for Kasdan, he will direct from a script by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul based on an original idea and a previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. He will also produce with Melvin Mar...

Nick Frost writes and stars in the horror comedy Get Away. Here’s the trailer for the film once known as Svalta.
Nick Frost both writes and stars in the folk horror comedy Get Away – a movie originally going by the name Svalta. The synopsis reads as follows:
Looking forward to a vacation on the small Swedish island of Svälta, the Smith family is unsettled by the unfriendly mainlanders who advise them to avoid the island at all costs, especially during the Karantan festival. But the 4-member family is in deep need of some time away & stubbornly decides to take the ferry anyway. On the island, the locals are rather rude & unwelcoming, and their behavior suggests that some big event is about to happen. Is it a cult? Is there a sacrifice in the works? Tipped to be one of the major awards contenders this year, you can now catch your first look at The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody.
It’s no grand claim to say that the awards race for Best Picture at the Oscars (not to mention other awards shows) is wide open right now. I tore through “Teacup” in two days.
The Peacock thriller based on Robert McCammon’s “Stinger” premieres on October 11 and will continue in two-episodes installments, but the wait between them is agonizing. “Teacup” takes place over the course of one harrowing night and day amid a major supernatural threat — the kind of premise and pacing that would’ve made a killer feature along the lines of “Cloverfield” or “Attack the Block.” Ian McCulloch serves as showrunner and executive producer along with McCammon, James Wan, and more.
Alas, “Peacock” debuts in the era of streaming, the era in which a novel’s TV adaptation veers toward audiobook in terms of run time. This is the era of “We’re not making a TV show, we’re making a multi-part movie”, and for a story like “Teacup” that just crushes the momentum.

"Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens" felt like the inception of a fresh adventure when the film first hit theaters, as it inched towards the promise to offer something new within a familiar mold. The film's narrative/thematic mirroring of "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" was a conscious retracing of the telltale hero's journey, where interconnected fates posed cyclical moral dilemmas, echoing past mistakes and forging renewed bonds. John Boyega's Finn brimmed with potential when the character was introduced as a stormtrooper on the verge of defection, followed by his gradual integration among the Resistance: a path that comes with the ultimate test of loyalty and character. Boyega makes Finn his own, imbuing the immensely likable character with endearing grit and charm, but the way Finn was treated throughout the trilogy — which unfortunately looped back to how Boyega was treated and made to feel...

John Boyega and Danielle Deadwyler are set to portray late soul legend Otis Redding and his widow Zelma Redding in Fifth Season’s forthcoming biopic “Otis & Zelma.”
Directed by breakout filmmaker Channing Godfrey Peoples and produced by Fifth Season, Homegrown Pictures and Kinfolk Management + Media, the music-based film chronicles the life of Otis Redding, who is considered to be one of the most impactful singer-songwriters of our lifetime, with indelible hits including “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “Respect,” “These Arms of Mine,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” and “Hard to Handle.” Redding’s burgeoning superstar career was tragically cut short when he died in a 1967 plane crash, leaving behind Zelma and three young children. He was 26 years old.

John Boyega put himself on the map with a star-making performance in Attack the Block. When he later travelled into a Galaxy Far, Far Away for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we had high hopes for his Stormtrooper-turned-Jedi.
Unfortunately, Lucasfilm dropped the ball on Finn and his story arc disappointed Boyega and Star Wars fans in equal measure.
There's long been hope that the British actor might join a Marvel or DC project and some new social media posts have sent speculation into overdrive about him potentially preparing for one. As you can see below, Boyega has hit the gym and looks ready to don spandex as any number of superhero characters.
Chances are he's just getting into shape or working out for a future role that has nothing to do with the MCU or Dcu. Still, these posts have got fans talking about which heroes - or villains -...

Nick Frost is no stranger to horror comedies, having starred in such modern classics as Shaun of the Dead and Attack the Block. This year, the actor has already starred in Krazy House (review), and now he is reuniting with that film’s director Steffen Haars in Get Away, a frequently amusing folk horror comedy that relishes in bloodshed almost as much as it does cringe comedy.

The unconventional music biopic Kneepcap, about a rap trio from Northern Ireland, has already made $1m in the US. Now it’s getting an even bigger push.
When Kneecap arrived in cinemas last month, it was something almost completely unique: an unconventional biopic about a rap trio from Northern Ireland that fizzed with drama, humour and challenging political ideas. Our own Maria Lattila called it ‘an unusual, intoxicatingly funny film’ in her review.
While the film found something of an audience in the UK, that’s no surprise considering the story hails from these parts. Perhaps more uncertain was how director, Rich Peppiatt’s film would fare in the US. After all, the mixture of English and Irish language, often delivered via rapid-fire lyrics could have been perceived as a tough sell for American audiences. This the same US distribution sector that was hellbent on subtitling the teen London slang...

Actor Aaron Pierre celebrates the success of Rebel Ridge. Rebel Ridge is a just-released Netflix crime drama that tells the story of a former marine who is forced to confront small-town corruption after an attempt to post bail for his cousin goes horribly wrong. In addition to Pierre, Rebel Ridge features a leading cast including Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, David Denman, Emory Cohen, Dana Lee, Steve Zissis, and Daniel H. Chung.
In a new social media post, Pierre reacts to Rebel Ridge's success. In his post, the actor shared an image of Rebel Ridge's chart-topping status, giving a screenshot of its Netflix statistics. He accompanied the picture with a caption that celebrated the huge success of the film, which Pierre noted was "#1 on Netflix in 71 different countries!." Giving his emotional reaction, Pierre noted "My heart is full." The actor went on to say that Rebel Ridge's success is a "team triumph.

Actors walk away from projects all the time, for all sorts of reasons. "Scheduling conflicts" and "creative differences" are two of the most-cited, but for the most part, when word comes out about an actor parting ways with a movie or TV show, they leave before filming has actually begun. Sometimes they walk away perilously close to the start of production, as was the case when Joaquin Phoenix bailed on a Todd Haynes' movie last month less than a week before cameras started rolling (and he could potentially face legal action because he cut it so close).
But in 2021, something even more unusual happened: Actor John Boyega left the production of writer/director Jeremy Saulnier's Netflix action thriller "Rebel Ridge" one month after the movie started filming. An exit like that is extremely rare in modern Hollywood, and it caused the film to shut down so Saulnier could find a new lead actor.

There's a corner of the multiverse where Neon beat out Netflix to acquire "Hit Man" and turned the Glen Powell-Adria Arjona two-hander into the word-of-mouth theatrical hit it deserved to be. It's possible that same, better timeline is also where one of the streamer's rivals released "Rebel Ridge" in theaters instead of directly onto streaming, ensuring we would all be heralding Aaron Pierre as our next major movie star right about now.
Fortunately, Jeremy Saulnier's tension-ratcheting action-drama has managed to avoid being swallowed into the streaming void and is currently topping the Netflix charts in the U.S., which means the internet is actively in the process of fan-casting Pierre's next big project. With naught but a voice role as a young Mufasa in his "Underground Railroad" director Barry Jenkins' upcoming "Lion King" prequel on his docket, what do people have in mind for Pierre? Playing a superhero, of course!

The director of films including Blue Ruin and Green Room, Jeremy Saulnier is back this year with the thriller Rebel Ridge, and Netflix has set a streaming premiere date this week.
Rebel Ridge arrives on Netflix September 6, 2024.
The film is described as “a high-velocity thriller.”
Aaron Pierre stars as an ex-Marine who takes on a web of small-town corruption.
As you may recall, this project was originally announced way back in 2019. At the time, John Boyega was on board to star in Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge.
At that time, the project was being billed as “a high-velocity thriller that explores systemic American injustices through bone-breaking action sequences, suspense and dark humor.”

Going back to the immigrant/foundling who became Superman, the superhero genre has often been used as an exploration of what happens when people from variably disenfranchised groups find themselves with unexpected levels of power. Whether the result leads to enhanced altruism or diabolical megalomania is the difference between a hero and a villain.
Not all audiences are so eager to read for subtext, which has led to recent stories that push the subtext to the surface and the superpowers occasionally to the background, whether the goal is to make stubborn pre-existing audiences get the point (see X-Men ’97), to make an audience that probably never watched in the first place get the point (Amazon’s short-lived The Power) or to make a low-iq potato get the point (season four of The Boys)

It’s the creature part that’s loose for interpretation, of course. A creature feature could be anything from carnivorous aliens from space to manmade monsters to genetically altered animals run amok.

We all love a "fun" horror movie, right? I'm talking about horror that feels like the cinematic equivalent of a roller coaster — fast, exhilarating, scary, but ultimately harmless. You buy the ticket and take the ride. But one of the things I love about the horror genre is that it's so damn flexible. On one hand, you can have fun horror movies like I just mentioned. And then there's the complete opposite: horror movies that make you squirm. Horror movies designed to make your skin crawl. Bugs, monsters, blood, body horror — the type of stuff that makes you feel like you need to take a shower after watching it. Those are the types of horror movies we're highlighting here — gnarly stuff, gross stuff, stuff that's going to make you feel more than a little icky. Be warned: it's about to get disgusting up in here.

Director Sébastien Vaniček has been set to helm the next Evil Dead movie, and it’s easy to see why with his feature debut, the spider horror movie Infested. Playing like a cross between Attack the Block and Arachnophobia, Infested makes you care about its characters while delivering no shortage of skin-crawling spider horror moments.
Available now on Shudder, Infested follows Kaleb (Théo Christine), a lonely 30 year old who’s estranged from his best friend and at odds with his sister over their crumbling apartment. One hatched egg sac gives way to hundreds more, plunging the apartment building into a visceral arachnophobic nightmare.

La Guerra Del Tiburtino III has as its international title Rome: Tales From the Block, which shows you how much this film wears its influences on its sleeve. From the opening segment, in which an alien creature leaves a meteor and takes over the brain of a middle aged schlub, it is clear that this film operates in a similar vein to Joe Cornish' Attack The Block, setting an alien invasion in the outskirts of a city, where the people who live there consider themselves the have-nots. Outside of dealing with financial struggles, petty crime, poor neighborhood cleaning and such, they now also have to deal with an invasion of bodysnatchers. John Boyega starring in The Book of Eli prequel series has the potential to renew interest in the original movie and bring about a fresh perspective on the story. The success of The Book of Eli prequel series could lead to further exploration of the film's universe and lore. While some may have hoped for John David Washington to be cast in the prequel series, Boyega's star power and acting abilities make him a compelling choice for the role.
The Book of Eli prequel TV series will star John Boyega as a young Eli, but as exciting as the news regarding the upcoming sequel is, a brilliant casting opportunity is now missed. Based on the 2010 post-apocalyptic action movie directed by the Hughes Brothers, The Book of Eli centers around a mysterious man named Eli who is on a self-proclaimed mission from God that can restore humanity to its pre-apocalyptic glory.

John Boyega wants to discuss the good book with you. Which book am I talking about? The Book of Eli, of course! Whispers around the watercooler imply that Boyega is prepping a prequel series based on 2010’s The Book of Eli. According to Deadline, Boyega will play a younger version of Eli, the character played by Denzel Washington in the Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes-directed film. Adding authenticity to the project is The Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta, who will create/write/executive produce the upcoming prequel series. The Book of Eli prequel series comes from Alcon Entertainment. They’ll bring the show to market to land a premium streaming venue.
In The Book of Eli, a drifter fights across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation. The story takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe resulting in an ecocide.

Alright, who here saw John Boyega on a fast track to stardom after "The Force Awakens" and said something along the lines of, "Boy, he sure seems like the next Denzel Washington?" without knocking on wood first? Because that monkey's paw has started to curl something fierce and left us with the latest batch of franchise IP news -- one that'll excite the more innocent among us while leaving the rest slightly jaded and cynical. What a time to be alive, folks.
So, remember when the Hughes brothers teamed up with "Rogue One" writer Gary Whitta on a 2010 apocalyptic movie by the name of "The Book of Eli" and we all agreed that it was a pretty solid piece of original genre work with something meaningful on its mind? That might feel like more and more of a foreign concept these days, especially compared to the current state of original sci-fi.

In any given year, British TV can be relied on to provide plenty in the way of crime drama, and 2023 was no different. Between these returning series and newcomers A Town Called Malice, Blue Lights, Marlow, Payback, Rebus, Steeltown Murders, The Gold, The Sixth Commandment, Wolf and more, crime continued to flourish on the small screen.
Happily though, that was far from all that UK TV offered this year. There was fantasy too, in the form of Netflix’s South London super-powers drama Supacell, ghost detective series Lockwood & Co., Greek and Roman mythology series Kaos, and sci-fi in Prime Video’s The Rig.
Add to all those the romances, dramas inspired by real-life, and several other book adaptations, period and otherwise plus music-based dramas Champion and This Town, and it was a pretty full slate.

Popular fan-cast for Kang the Conqueror, John Boyega, has consistently refused the potential for a role in the MCU. Boyega's history with Disney suggests that Marvel Studios will have to continue searching for a new actor to play Kang the Conqueror, if a recast is what is actually planned.
A potential Kang the Conqueror recast in the MCU has been depicted in new fan art, picturing a popular Star Wars star as the Multiverse Saga villain.
