The Senna series is undoubtfully good but it gives a shallow treatment to some important passages in Ayrton's life. The 1989 season was an epic one, and also one that shaped his persona. He had so much high and lows in that season but the series decided to focus in his romance with Xuxa. It does not show his mistakes in Brazil and Portugal, specifically in the latter where he defended his track position against a disqualified Nigel Mansell ending up in both drivers crashing into each other, and creating hughe animosity between McLaren and Ferrari teams. Among his highs are the three commanding victories in a row in the season beginning that were a big blow to Alain Prost. The frenchman started a press campaign to publicly attack Senna, McLaren and Honda. F-1 then supremo Bernie Ecclestone was so worried about a possible Senna huge dominance that he proposed the winners to drive with a ballast for the next race. Then the littany of retirements for Senna started and propelled Prost to the championship leadership, and the frenchman was more than able to manage his advantage to his profit. The episode where Honda had to randomly pick an engine for Prost so he would not complain of favoritism to Senna was also not shown. The despicable antics of FIA president Jean-Marie Balestre that openly supported his countryman and publicly called Senna a menace is also cut. Last but not least, the 1989 Australian GP is also not mentioned where Prost decided not to take part as the race bordered insanity due to the Biblical deluge that fell over Adelaide. Senna flew through the circuit only to be a victim of the heavy rain that impeded him to see a slow Martin Brundle in front of him. Still, it felt good to revisit the 1989 season, specially the Japanese GP.
