Pick of the WeekThey’re Playing With Fire [Kl Studio Classics]
What is it? A sexy college professor seduces her student, and then people start dying horrible deaths.
Why see it? I’ve been a Sybil Danning fan for more years than I care to recall, but somehow this one slipped past me before now. I’m not sure what teen me would have thought, but as an adult I’m in awe of just how off the rails it gets from its very clear T&A origin. From the cover to the copy the film sells itself as just another sex flick, but...

Indian director and producer Shekhar Kapur will chair the Jury for “Luigi de Laurentiis” Venice Award for Debut Film sections of the 69th Venice International Film Festival.
The decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Biennale chaired by Paolo Baratta, upon recommendation of the Director of the Venice Film Festival Alberto Barbera.
“Shekhar Kapur is not only the Indian filmmaker who enjoys the greatest international prestige – which he earned for the success of the films he made in Bollywood in the early stages of his career, and later for having directed some of the major English and American productions – he is also a refined intellectual humanist interested in social issues,” as stated on the official website of the festival.
Shekhar Kapur made his directing debut in 1983 with the family drama Masoom, and then made Mr. India (1987). He won critical acclaim for Bandit Queen (1994). His Hollywood production Elizabeth (1998) was nominated for seven Oscars.

From the skyscrapers in New York to the ravines of Chambal in Paan Singh Tomar, cinematographer Aseem Mishra’s body of work is diverse. Aseem, who holds the distinction of shooting the first Hindi film on Arri Alexa feels nostalgic about the good old celluloid but believes that the future is going to be digital. Bikas Mishra talks to Aseem Mishra:

Paan Singh Tomar is being hailed for its cinematography. Can you share your experience of shooting the film in Chambal valley?
Not just for cinematography but also as a complete film! When I look back, I had shot it just after shooting New York. So for me it was an interesting change. I took it more as an experiment! From shooting reflections and skyscrapers to shooting ravines of Chambal, going from cool tones to warm tones. It was a very interesting experience. Magic realism at its best!

Cannes -- Oscar winner Shekhar Kapur will direct "Paani" (Water) from a script by David Farr, having secured the $30 million budget from Swarovski Entertainment and Adlabs founder-turned-producer Manmohan Shetty.
The project idea has occupied Kapur's mind for 10 years and, after pressure from fellow filmmaker Danny Boyle and Shetty's insistance that "he gets on and makes it before it's too late," Kapur plans to shoot in November with additional backing from Walk Water in Singapore, Dubai and on large purpose-built sets being designed by John Myrhe.
Boyle will get a producer credit of some kind for his efforts, Kapur said and the project also marks the first full-length feature backed by Swarovski's start-up entertainment arm.
A. R. Rahman has written two original songs for the project, Kapur said.
The project is a love story set in a mega city in a future where precious H20 has all but run out...
