Verdict
I grew up with first person shooters, but by that I mean Doom, Wolfenstein, Hexen, Rise of the Triad and more. When the multi-player generation kicked in I was rarely impressed, Medal of Honor? No thanks. Call of Duty? Meh. Online CoD bored me whereas Battlefield I got a level of enjoyment from. I could never understand why anybody would choose CoD over Battlefield.
Battlefield had bigger environments, more players in battles, vehicles (Ground, water and air) it was just superior in every way to me.
When Battlefield 2042 came out I remember hearing wall to wall complaints, people hated it so when I went in I assumed the worst. The thing is the complaints were never really specific, they were just claims they didn't like the game but rarely an explanation of why. Yes it had bugs, but what AAA games doesn't shortly after release? The trouble is it's over two years later and there are still bugs present, mostly frustrating graphical ones.
The game itself is solid enough, though a bit all over the place as it's set across multiple time periods and tries to be a bit too grandiose for its own good. WW2 battles? Sure. Modern battles? Sure. Futuristic battles? Sure. It makes loadouts a pain in the butt and I didn't like that it was so all over the place.
Everything else however is fine, the mechanics are solid, the locations are varied, every box is ticked so why the hatred?
It's not the best Battlefield game, but it's a decent enough entry.
Rants
No seriously, why do people choose CoD over Battlefield? I believe it's changed recently but prior the environments were tiny by comparison. You couldn't turn a corner without running into an enemy. No vehicles, fewer players....why!? Battlefield saw you riding a jeep across a sprawling environment, tanks roaring beside you, planes engaged in dogfights above, superior in every conceivable way.
Breakdown
Lots of environments Great logistics Multiple time periods don't work Unforgivable bugs.
