When Brynne Weaver first released her novel Butcher & Blackbird, she was on a fact finding mission in the self-publishing world. The author had started with fantasy, then moved into paranormal, and then contemporary dark romance — all with the express purpose of laying the groundwork for her eventual big hit. “It was just this process of continuously wanting to learn how to crack it and how to get better and better, and focusing on the next thing in the future,” Weaver tells Rolling Stone.” Then she started noticing people tagging her on TikTok.

Towards the end of 2024, both the One Piece manga and anime series have been dealing with production hiatuses. The manga series, published in the pages of the iconic magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump, has gone on and off hiatus in late 2024 as series creator Eiichiro Oda has been dealing with health issues. Following the end of the first part of the Egghead Island arc with episode 1122, the anime adaptation announced a lengthy hiatus beginning in October 2024. Luckily, there's good news for One Piece fans in terms of updates for both the manga and anime series.
The One Piece manga's publisher, Shueisha, digitally publishes the series — along with other iconic series like Dragon Ball and Demon Slayer — through its Manga Plus website and app. Chapters are also available digitally — along with hard copies of the manga's collected volumes — through the English translator, Viz Media.

In a few weeks, the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, better known as SNL, will turn 50. The legendary series has been a part of popular culture since it started in 1975. The show itself has seen too many memorable sketches to count. That includes those they deemed to have fun with the Star Wars franchise and featuring alumni who appeared in the franchise.
Let's look at some of the best Star Wars moments in Saturday Night Live
In 1978, a year after A New Hope was released, a sketch became a part of Star Wars lore. Comedian Bill Murray portrayed a lounge singer and sang a new tune using John Williams's main theme. "Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars" has become a popular song in both franchises and displays Murray's comedic talent. It also displayed how far Star Wars had come in relation to popular culture.

Outside of Devo, co-founder and vocalist Mark Mothersbaugh has carved out a lucrative niche for himself by scoring films and creating music for TV shows. However, it’s his work on the theme for one of the most-aired shows of all time, MTV’s Ridiculousness, that’s been the biggest earner, bringing in about $1 million per year.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Mothersbaugh spoke about the success of the reworked version of Devo’s “Uncontrollable Urge” in comparison to his other themes and his group’s best-known song, “Whip It.”
“I’ve written so many other songs for films and television shows,” Mothersbaugh said. “I would’ve been shocked [years ago] if you told me this is the one that would become this prime source of income.”
He continued, “MTV stopped playing us but we came to the other side of the circle. It’s a nice ironic twist because...

Often, a beloved movie seems impossible to describe without making it sound boring or awful. Some of the greatest movies ever made have wild, over-the-top wacky premises that seem downright bad on paper but turn out to be perfect. Bad movie concepts with good execution aren't rare, but they're extremely difficult to recommend. The person being addressed will most likely dismiss such a movie if they hear a description.
In a world where amazing movie concepts are executed terribly regularly, the idea of investing in a movie that sounds like a snoozefest isn't particularly appealing. Marketing departments for most films work tirelessly to make them sound as appealing as possible, but some concepts are too weird to sell. The only thing to do for such films is to remind viewers of other movies that turned out way better than expected and hope that convinces them to try out more bizarre-sounding...

Bluey fans around the world are on pins and needles for the new full-length feature film adaptation in 2027, but things are about to change. Although Bluey creator Joe Brumm is devoting all of his time and energy to make the movie great, one development has some fans biting their nails.
Along with the official announcement, it was revealed that Bluey would be getting a CG makeover for the occasion. That's not an uncommon practice for TV show characters making the transition to film, but fans might not need to be so uptight because a redesign has happened before.

Cartoon Network fans are starting 2025 on a sour note as several beloved animated series have been removed from Max.
Just last month, it was announced that four popular DC animated series—Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series—would leave the platform by the end of 2024. True to the announcement, these shows disappeared from Max’s library after December 31. But it didn’t stop there.
As of January 1, more fan-favorites have also been removed, including Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Looney Tunes Show, and the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go! While the show’s eighth season remains on Max, fans hoping to revisit earlier episodes will have to look elsewhere, like Hulu, where some seasons are still available.

Star Wars released several new TV shows in 2024, and some of them absolutely rank among Star Wars' best TV shows. 2024 proved to be an interesting year for Star Wars. Although there were a number of new and returning TV shows, Star Wars released no new movies, and news about Star Wars' upcoming movies was minimal.
Even more surprising, Star Wars' upcoming TV shows have become quite thin. At present, only Andor season 2 and Ahsoka season 2 are confirmed. This is quite a difference from 2024, which saw the release of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, The Acolyte, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Each of these shows brought something unique to Star Wars, and several of them were truly excellent.

Star Wars released several new shows in 2024, and these characters are the best brand-new additions from the year. Among the 2024 Star Wars releases were Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, The Acolyte, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Although many characters in shows like The Bad Batch and Tales of the Empire had appeared in Star Wars movies and TV shows already, several characters were new.
This was especially true of The Acolyte, which was set in an era of the Star Wars timeline that hadn't yet been shown on screen and therefore required a number of new characters, and Skeleton Crew, which focuses on a group of children lost in the galaxy. Although there was backlash to The Acolyte and 2024 was a bit of a turbulent year for the franchise, many of these characters were truly brilliant. Of...

Ever since Sonic the Hedgehog hit the big screen, video game adaptations have seen an increase in quality. These adaptations are no longer just successful as standalone productions; they also excel in representing their source material. Beyond Sonic, titles like The Last of Us, Arcane, and Fallout have succesfully adapted from games to screen. Similarly, movies such as Lucasfilm has expanded their universes into games with the Star Wars Jedi games and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Adaptations today not simply adapt, but also enrich the original universes.
Like all adaptations, creators have the liberty to reimagine the source material to varying degrees. For now, the focus will be on whether or not it keeps familiar elements and whether or not it keeps a familiar story. A familiar element is not just names taken from the source, but also what are often considered the essential elements like lore, characters traits and struggles.

WGA Members Prohibited From Working With Village Roadshow After Company “Has Refused to Pay” Writers
The Writers Guild of America has prohibited its members from working with Village Roadshow for the time being after the company refused to pay numerous writers.
“It has come to the Guild’s attention that over the last few months, Village Roadshow hasn’t paid writers on numerous projects,” the Wgaw wrote in a statement on Saturday. “Village Roadshow owes writers compensation, interest and benefit contributions but has refused to pay. As such, the Guild has determined that Village Roadshow is not reliable or financially responsible and requires the posting of a bond to protect writers. Village Roadshow has, to date, refused to do so.”
As a result, the company is on the guild’s strike list until further notice.
“It is crucial that Village Roadshow be prevented from undercutting writers’ standards and conditions,” the statement continued. “Village Roadshow cannot be allowed to benefit from writing services provided by WGA members.

Big things are happening in the world of Bluey this week. Yesterday, fans were told that the beloved Australian animated series is set to get its first full-length feature film in 2027. That's certainly a game-changer for the beloved blue dog, but it also comes with some "trifficult" developments as well.
Along with this major development, two other changes coming down the pipeline might not go over well with the show's immense fanbase. Along with Bluey creator Joe Brumm stepping away from his role on the animated series to focus on the film, it was also announced that the characters are being made over with a "CG" style.

To offer clarity at the start, the nine main "Star Wars" movies are the nine theatrically released live-action features with Roman numerals in the titles that make up what's known as the Skywalker Saga. Stick with a runtime, Joe Brumm.
A CG-animation “Bluey” movie is coming to theaters in 2027, Disney and BBC Studios announced on Tuesday. The series itself, created by Brumm, is 2D animation — and it is extremely short form.

Scratch that: “Bluey” is the ultra-rare kids show that parents may actually love more than even their children do. The family comedy has big laughs and bigger heartfelt moments, so a supersized version on a supersized screen just makes sense.
“Bluey” is a viewership phenomenon — per Nielsen, it is the most-streamed show (of any kind) in the U.S. this year. And Bluey the brand is a cash cow, which feels appropriate considering the Heelers are Australian Cattle Dogs.

BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company today announced the first-ever Bluey movie, which will be based on the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning animated series.
The new deal sees Disney acquiring the global theatrical rights for the film, which will land in theaters in 2027 under the Disney banner. Following the global theatrical release, the Bluey movie will stream on Disney+.
Written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, the film is a Ludo Studio production in collaboration with BBC Studios. Delivering the same charm and humor that made the television series a global phenomenon, the movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her mum, dad and her little sister, Bingo.
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that.

Though he has been known for some dramatic roles as well, Jim Carrey has been a notable comedy actor for a couple of decades at this point. These comedies include higher-profile works such as a The Truman Show along with goofier parts in films like Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This year, Carrey will play a goofy comedy role again in the soon-to-be-released Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This time around, Carrey will play both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik in the threequel.
Morgan Freeman's career is in some ways the foil to Carrey's. In an inversion of Carrey's patterns, Freeman's career has consisted mostly of dramas, with the occasional comedy thrown in. He has been nominated for multiple Oscars, winning Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for his performance in Million Dollar Baby. One of the actor's most distinctive qualities is his voice.

Since the launch of Lego Fortnite Odyssey, Blast Cores have been one of the tougher crafting resources to find in the game. That's because there's only one real way to find it. Nevertheless, it's an essential component for important tools like the Gem Cutter, an Inner Fire Charm, or the Metal Smelter.
It can be even a bit more difficult than getting the Jukebox in Lego Fortnite Odyssey, depending on what difficulty you're playing on. Still, the methods you can use will get far easier the more you get used to it. After that, you'll end up with all the Blast Cores you need.

The Writers Guild of America is on the verge of ordering its writers not to work with Village Roadshow, claiming the firm is behind on paying its writers.
“I can confirm that they’re late on paying their writers and a stop-work order is imminent,” a WGA spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. A representative for Village Roadshow, the once-prolific shingle behind the Ocean’s movies, Mad Max: Fury Road and The Lego Movie, declined comment. Variety first reported the WGA’s potential move.
Amid the ongoing Hollywood contraction Village Roadshow has been trimming costs, a few months ago conducting a round of layoffs affecting business affairs, administration and film and television roles. At the time, the company was considering strategic options including taking on more investors. Since 2017, a controlling interest of Village Roadshow has been owned by Vine Alternative Investments.

From Jeff Goldblum’s The Fly to Samuel L. Jackson’s Pulp Fiction to Chris Pratt’s The Lego Movie, there are a ton of great films out there starring actors from the Jurassic Park franchise. When Steven Spielberg was putting together the timeless original Jurassic Park movie, he was one of the biggest directors in Hollywood who had already broken the record for highest-grossing movie ever made twice (and was about to break it a third time), so he could have his pick of actors. He recruited screen legends like Laura Dern and Richard Attenborough to bring the story to life.
There are so many great actors in the Jurassic Park cast — and the Jurassic World cast, for that matter — that there are plenty of classic films to check out featuring their best performances. Wayne Knight and Bd Wong had voice roles in two of the greatest Disney animated movies ever made.

Sequels are quite common in today’s generation. When a film (be it a live-action drama or animated movie) becomes a massive hit and grosses millions at the box office, the studios decide to expand that world by making more installments under the same franchise.

If The Lego Movie taught us one thing, it's that Everything Is Awesome! If The Lego Movie taught us another thing though, it's that brick-based blockbusters in particular can indeed be pretty awesome. And Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess will certainly be hoping that proves to also be true of A Minecraft Movie, his upcoming, Jack Black and Jason Momoa starring live-action take on Mojang's wildly popular sandbox video game. Check out the latest trailer for the movie below:
If the first trailer for the movie gave off some serious Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle vibes, then this latest one leans even further into that hey-guys-we're-in-a-video-game feel, introducing us properly to Jack Black's Steve, who we learn "yearned for the mines" as a child before eventually digging his way to his blocky dreams in man-childhood. Let’s face it, no family is dysfunctional quite like the Bluths. The cult classic sitcom, Arrested Development, first aired in 2003 and redefined the chaotic comedy with its mix of zany characters and absurdly tangled storyline. From a banana stand with “always money in it” to endless chicken dances, the show has given us unforgettable moments and a memorable cast that felt more like a bizarrely entertaining extended family than fictional characters.
Leading the madness was Jason Bateman as Michael Bluth, the so-called “responsible” one trying to hold his trainwreck of a family together. Then there’s Will Arnett as Gob, the magician with an ego bigger than his tricks, and Portia de Rossi as Lindsay, the ultra-glamorous activist with questionable motives.

The remarkable story of a brilliant musician and producer is told in this surreal but also strangely wrongheaded film
Pharrell Williams’s life … only it’s Lego. A fun idea – like Muhammad Ali in Etch-a-Sketch or Harry and Meghan with Thunderbirds puppets. This is a film that is boisterously childlike, surreal and eager to please, but also (I couldn’t help thinking) a strangely wrongheaded attempt to use Lego graphics to tell the remarkable, complex story of a brilliant musician and producer. Try as I might, I couldn’t make friends with this much-acclaimed film.
Piece By Piece is of course inspired by the amazing success of The Lego Movie franchise but doesn’t have those films’ crazy ironic knowingness or comedy stylings. On the contrary it is a basically heartfelt approach to Williams’s story, using real voices on the soundtrack but with Lego dramatisations of episodes in his life,...

Made with the full participation of self-described “hybrid thinker” Pharrell Williams, Piece By Piece is a surprisingly sincere and serious film about a sincere and serious artist, some distance from the irony-led Lord & Miller Lego entries. It’s quite a handbrake turn for Oscar-winning documentarian Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom), but it largely follows the standard talking-heads doc template very faithfully. Just in Lego.

The Jurassic World Dominion cast brought together the two ensembles of characters from the current trilogy as well as the original. Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a screenplay he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World Dominion marks the final film in the trilogy and the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. It wraps up a story that first began in Steven Spielbergs 1993 film and brings back plenty of familiar faces from the original for the Jurassic World 3 cast.
Set four years after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World Dominion explores a world that is shared by humans and dinosaurs alike. Dinosaur black markets have cropped up, poachers hunt the prehistoric creatures, and locusts are destroying harvests around the globe. Meanwhile, the villainous Jurassic Park rival Biosyn returns for more corporate wrongdoing. For the final adventure, Jurassic World Dominion brought back a few characters from Jurassic Park joining the...

The Lego franchise is the next to dive into the realm of live-action, proving that this recent trend is getting out of hand. There have been a handful of animated Lego movies over the years, each of which was a fair success. It was only a matter of time before more went into production, and word is now out that there is not only one but three live-action Lego projects in the works. This is an interesting twist since the foundation of the Lego franchise doesn't seem to leave much room for this medium. However, the massive success of other live-action projects seems to have inspired further reimaginings.
So far, there is virtually no information regarding what these three Lego movies would be about or how their live-action format would be approached. They will all be produced by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians, and their individual directors will be Jake Kasdan,...

Star Wars secretly dropped a massive Darth Jar Jar clue five years ago. "Darth Jar Jar" is one of the most delightful fan theories of the prequel era; the idea that Jar Jar Binks is just too clumsy and too lucky to be believed. According to this theory, with seems to rightly amuse actor Ahmed Best himself, he is in fact the true "Phantom Menace" - a Sith Lord operating in secret to help Palpatine rise to power.
The Darth Jar Jar theory is popular enough that it even found its way into Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, which brought Best back to gleefully declare Jar Jar had always been the Phantom Menace. There are, surprisingly, quite a few details supporting the Darth Jar Jar theory - ranging from moments when Jar Jar literally destroyed enemies through his apparent clumsiness, to leaps and dives that do indeed look a little Force-assisted.

The Lego franchise will begin making live-action movies, and I think that idea is an awful mistake. Lego is mostly known for its plastic brick toys and miniature figures, but the company began making high-budget animated movies and shows with 2014's aptly-named The Lego Movie. Since the success of The Lego Movie, which earned $468 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), the franchise has made several more Lego movies, including a sequel, a pair of Lego Batman films, a movie about Ninjago, and more. Even though the Lego franchise has expanded its subject matter, one thing has stayed the same: its animation.
Now, however, there are three live-action Lego movies in the works. There are currently very few details about the films, and not even their titles are public knowledge yet. However, three directors have been attached to the movies: Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman...

Lego's Ninjago continuity reveals a shocking secret, as Garmadon investigates the origins of the spinjitzu technique of Shatterspin.
