Siobhan Fallon Hogan has created a wonderful cast of believable characters and woven their stories together into a wrenching plot. None of them are entirely heroic yet, perhaps save for Kevin who is too immature to have character, they are each finally redeemable, though not in any facile way. From Peter Hogan's Chris to Siobhan's Valerie, for all their flaws, each offers a shining moment of simple and beautiful humanity, reminding us that even in the shadows of a darkening world and a desperately cruel situation, women and men are capable of connection and relationship across the most unlikely divides. In addition to Siobhan's own performance, Robert Patrick's Dwayne and Peter Macon's Jackson deserve special mention for revealing a deep and memorable humanity in the midst of very complex lives.
Prepare to be enthralled by the rich tapestry of characters that populate Shelter in Solitude.
The filmmakers have meticulously developed a cast of individuals who are as flawed as they are endearing, making them feel incredibly authentic.
Literally, some of the most outstanding actors I have seen til this day.
Each one of the characters possess their own unique quirks, fears, and aspirations, resulting in a dynamic ensemble that adds depth and relatability to the narrative. The performances are outstanding, breathing life into these multidimensional characters and taking the film to new heights.
I will be back to see it again this weekend .
Absolutely stunning by all of you !

A great character study, Siobhan really knows her people! The story of two totally different people finding a connection really grabs your attention. Her character is irritating, laughable, relatable, and fun. Knowing that this is an independent film, made in her hometown with her high school friends as extras, makes it even more delicious. As I am from said home town, I enjoyed it more than ever! The movie was touching, funny, sad, and watchable. I never looked at my watch once to see how much longer! Grabs your attention and keeps it. I loved it, and you should see it. Now I need to write more characters to submit this, and these are them.

This movie is absolutely fantastic top to bottom. The musical score, acting, story and cast are all great. Peter Hogan was brilliant alongside his mother and the Rob Bank$ and Fat Nick cameo was a nice surprise. It touches on so many different topics we are dealing with today. I also really love how it manages to touch a multitude of different genres. It is funny, dramatic, mysterious, and thrilling. I hope we continue to see movies coming from this production company. I'll be watching every single one!!!
10/10 would recommend for and film enthusiast and anyone looking for a great movie to watch.

Shelter in Solitude is a captivating story of death row inmate with just days to live and the impact he felt from a wannabe country western singer and a small community of people during COVID times.
Directed by Vibeke Muasya the movie stars the wonderful actors Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Robert Patrick, Peter Macon, Dan Castellaneta and Peter Hogan. I had the honor of seeing it at Kevin Smith's first film festival-- SModCastle Film Festival--in Atlantic Highlands New Jersey.
This fantastic, small-town love story about a tragic inmate in despair who finds an unusual friend with faith and a warm heart, is touching and enjoyable for all. Funny, compassionate, relatable, surprising and with a great cast, excellent music and perfect backdrop make this a Must-See Film!

I saw this film at a film festival and enjoyed it from start to finish. Fantastic film filled with great performances all around. Siobhan Fallon Hogan especially kills it, with great charm and charisma in ever scene she's in. She goes through a range of emotions and a solid character arc and it is consistently entertaining throughout. The supporting cast as well kills it. It's also a very timely film, set during the COVID-19 pandemic and as such is both very relatable and also will serve as a great time capsule for the future to show future moviegoers what life was like during this period of time. Overall, I highly recommend.

Comedy, crime, and drama--all beautifully weaved together to tell a tale of lock-down, incarceration, friendship, family, faith, and so much more.
It's really satisfying to begin seeing films that take place deep in the pandemic. And to see these characters surviving the very thing we've all just been through while also telling a story that goes beyond politics, beyond the expected, is just really enjoyable and exciting.
Siobhan Fallon Hogan and cast give fantastic, authentic performances that shouldn't be missed. Something like Dancer in the Dark meets Monster's Ball, this film is highly recommended for all.

I enjoyed this tender tragicomedy which showcases veteran actress/comedienne Siobhan Fallon Hogan's many talents. Her hard luck character Val Fagan is a lonesome tavern keeper and former Ole Opry vedette looking for love in all the wrong places whose life is spiraling out of control as the pandemic hits. She is maligned and robbed, but finds purpose and redemption at the height of Covid when she finds herself working as a death row prison guard. Her relationship with her brother, the warden, portrayed by Robert Patrick, is rocky but touching, as they manage to join forces to provide a semblance of compassion, if not justice, to the prisoner, portrayed by Peter Macon on death row.

Discovered a sparkling gem of a movie after entering theater with no expectations.
Well written with en pointe acting. You really care about the characters. Surprising angles to the story.
Siobhan Fallon Hogan unfurls the colorful, quirky, broken, caring, "do it" with passion character, Val, with brilliant acting. Her heart is on her sleeve. Her determination is steel strong.
Dignity. Respect. Hope.
The giving, receiving & embodiment of these values thread through this story.
And....to what ends?
See this intelligent, thought provoking, smile motivating & tear inducing movie. Tell your friends to do the same.
Destined to be one of the top movies of 2023.
It certainly is one of my favorites.
Make it yours, too.

Siobhan did an absolutely amazing job with this movie! The soundtrack - the acting - the cinematography - the comedy, and emotional aspects are all so well done. A movie that can you have laughing one moment, and emotionally invested the next. The script is so well written which allows you to feel invested in these characters, and allows you to truly sympathize and understand these characters. The humor doesn't drown out the emotional beats throughout the film, and this makes the characters feel even more human. I think you'll understand what I mean when you watch the movie. This movie is a true character study, and provides us with a peak into their lives. Go see it!

The comedy in "Shelter in Solitude" is enjoyable and genuine. You chuckle along, and before you know it, you find yourself empathizing so deeply with the characters that certain situations move you to tears. Even so, the laughter and the tears culminate at the end with a heartwarming sense of knowing. Not every obstacle can be overcome, but God does answer prayers in unexpected ways.
Siobhan Fallon Hogan wrote a brilliant script. Her delivery is impeccable. What comedic talent she has! Peter Hogan's talent is certainly a treasured inheritance as his portrayal of a hapless rookie cop is spot-on.

I was able to see Shelter in Solitude in a film festival, Craic fest.
Shelter in Solitude will make you feel a range of different emotions, from laughing your ass off to crying your eyes out. Great film I definitely recommend. As it is set in Covid times, everyone, and I mean everyone can relate in one way or another! Siobbhan's character Val was beautifully executed, with the character's evolution being both realistic and heart-warming. All characters were integral in making this film as good as it was. Indeed, both the main characters as well as the secondary characters really made this movie well-rounded.
A must-see!

Everything about this film was great-the acting, cinematography, script. Valerie, played by Siobhan Hogan, is such a fun character. Her relationship with Jackson is so heartwarming. Not to mention her bossing around the funny cop named Chrissy was hilarious. Chrissy was HANDSOME too what else can I watch him in?! Great performance by him as well. Robert Patrick and Peter Macon were also phenomenal. If you are a fan of rap music, there is a scene with Fat Nick and Robb Bank$. A very moving film that had me on the verge of tears but also a perfect amount of comedic relief. Oscar nomination is needed for this movie!

Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Peter Macon both display excellently characters dealing with isolation in different ways. Filled with touching scenes and good comedic moments as well! Robert Patrick stars as the warden and the brother of the lead. He brings a great intensity to the role as well as some tough love. The rest of the cast does a terrific job as well and the world feels truly fleshed out. The cinematography is beautiful as well with some really cool looking prison scenes.
Definitely recommend if you like heartwarming stories or light comedies. Be sure to check this one out asap 10/10 for sure.

I didn't know what to expect seeing this movie tonight at Boston's International Film Festival and was so blown away. The writing was so powerful and the characters, who we only get to meet and know for a few days (with a few flashback scenes), were so well drawn and showed such authenticity. I loved how the theme of isolation and connection played out so beautifully along with deeper themes that were hinted at, yet it was the humanity of the story that was at the forefront and captivated the audience. Shiobhan Fallon Hogan opened herself up and wrote for herself what I consider an Oscar worthy performance. Interestingly, this was the first movie I've seen in a big theater since the Pandemic and I'm so glad I went as it reminded me of the magic that you only get from watching movies on the big screen with others. I felt it from the moment the main character was driving down the highway in her chartreuse Mustang convertible to the tough, yet touching and powerful ending!

Get ready for a cinematic journey that will make you laugh, weep and wonder. Siobhan Fallon Hogan puts every ounce of her abundant talents into bringing us a moving story about the joy and heartache of life, and the power of redemption. The movie will stick with you for a long time-in the most positive way. This low-budget movie is shot so professionally it could pass as a major motion picture. It should. There is definitely a place for movies that push boundaries and break down societal perceptions to create art that give life to characters you can't help but root for. Fallon Hogan takes on tough subjects with such raw grit and humor - you sometimes forget you are watching a movie.
Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Robert Patrick, Peter Macon and Peter Hogan, Jr are brilliant. The film is funny and tragic, terrifying and hopeful. It is a breath of fresh air with fascinating characters played by excellent actors.
I could watch Siobhan Fallon Hogan all day. She plays a confident, funny, totally entertaining, yet lonely and tragic figure who cares deeply for everyone including Peter Macon whom she befriends under the most fascinating and gut wrenching circumstances. They are excellent together.
Siobhan and Robert Patrick, as brother and sister, are even better together. They have great chemistry; they interact effortlessly creating fascinating scenes and revealing the depth of their characters in such an easy and entertaining way, like only two professionals at the top of their field can do. You can feel every bit of their years together as brother and sister.
I highly recommend this film! I'll be watching this again and again. A+.

This film is a deeply moving story about the friendship that develops between Siobhan Fallon Hogan, an out of work tavern owner, and Peter Macon, an inmate in the local prison. Fallon Hogan's brother, Robert Patrick, hires her when her tavern is shut down in the beginning of the COVID -19 pandemic. Robert Patrick is so natural as the sheriff, you forget he is acting.
Peter Macon is on death row and initially won't even look at Hogan, who starts visiting him daily. Fallon Hogan persists, and slowly draws Macon out. The performances by Fallon Hogan and Macon are deeply moving, and for both actors, their best work to date.
Vibeke Muasya directs this excellent film.

I saw Shelter in Solitude at Kevin Smith's SModCastle Film Festival. As with her previous smash hit "Rushed", Siobhan Fallon Hogan takes another heavy subject and intertwines comedic scenes. Peter Macon's performance was riveting and emotional. Siobhan and Robert Patrick bring to life characters very relatable with the filming locations in rural Central NY.
The creative way the film goes back and forth between past and present to tie the story line together keeps your attention, and the original music, especially during the bar room scene, was fantastic.
This is a movie I'll definitely add to my list to watch again!

Shelter In Solitude is a movie with great character development and a compelling plot line. The very serious subjects of prison and solitary confinement are handled without judgment and even with humor interspersed. The main character, Val, played by Siobhan Fallon Hogan, is interesting, funny, and endearing. All the people in the film, and their circumstances, are relatable. I saw the premiere and was struck by the fact that every scene, every nuance, moved the story along and kept my interest the entire time. It's a movie without gimmicks- just pitch perfect acting, drama and comedy, and a topic that needs more attention!
