The characters of Wolfgang and Priscilla were based on real life killer couples Burmah Adams and Tom White, as well as Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate
The original concept for Roach Motel was a mix of two different scripts, one titled "Pussycat Strikes Back" and the other "Roach Motel". The original concept for Roach Motel would follow three different stories taking place in three different motel rooms on the same night. Fonza found himself so engrossed writing the story about a hit couple holding a political figure hostage, that he just ended up scrapping the other two.
The dynamic between Booker and Beverly Monroe was influenced by Shakespeare and Greek Mythology (i.e. Much Ado About Nothing, Athena being born from Zeus' head, etc.)
